Yup. It’s getting insane. I haven’t bought a set in a couple years now. I’m tempted to get this, but I can’t justify the price, even for what I consider is a pretty great range of Minifigs

I think I’m about 98% certain that abrupt edge of the sarlacc put connects to the UCS sail barge stand. No other reason they’d leave studies so bare

From 2017, it was $30 (which would be $40 in current dollars) and had just under half as many pieces (277 pieces vs 558 of the new one). It was half the price but half as many pieces. So like always, Lego itself costs basically exactly the same it always has when you adjust for inflation, it's just that sets have waaaaaay more pieces nowadays.

and half the piece count is tan bricks nobody wants and that look bad in the set
70$ got me the inquisitor ship and that thing was a great build, i really dont see anything here worth that much
A skiff with those figs even with SW tax should be around $35usd. Add in a modest sized pit and it should still be HALF this price! No way all that extra tan around the pit is worth it
Inflation has got you going crazy if you think this set would be feasibly worth 35$ in today's money. Still overpriced though, I'd say 50$ is fair due to its similarity to the Tantive IV hallway set.
in what world would a 558-part star wars set with 6 minifigures (a few new) be $40? that wouldn’t be remotely feasible at any point in the last decade at least, even if its current price is outrageous
Umm, yeah, this set IS overpriced, but 35 bucks is just dreaming.
I remember them making this set avout 10 years ago and I was able afford it back then, so it couldn't have been more than 35 or 40.
@@callnight1441 they made one in 2012 with 4 minifigures and 213 parts and it retailed for $25. not only was that a deal for the time, but this new version has two and a half times the parts. if you think the new version should be two and a half times the price, fine, but that’s still well over 35-40, and this is before we touch inflation at all. again, it’s overpriced, but this idea of nostalgia-based pricing is so wack
Lego has driven me out of collecting Star Wars sets just because of the prices.

I feel like there should have been another bad guy figure, beyond just (the wrong) Boba Fett. Since the Sarlacc doesn't make for much of an opponent to battle, it means they really only have Boba for the four good guys to fight against. I think people overestimate the number of kids who'll care or even notice about Boba being the ESB version, but I suspect the lack of skiff guards will be felt. Especially at the price, good lord...

Probably has been mentioned 500 times before but wouldn't they sell MORE THAN 2x as many sets if they were half the asking price? Less people would complain about the prices and yes, $80 is way too much 😅
Lego is employing a premium pricing strategy similar to Apple. The high prices together with brand recognition are supposed to cultivate a sense of getting higher quality products than the competition offers even if that is objectively not the case.

technically if you double your prices and only lose half of your customers you make more money.
I’ve realised what is making so many recent sets so expensive. They’re making very bulky builds that are beefing up the part count but they offer very little play value. The small side-build Sarlacc from 2017 has the same play value as this Sarlacc, only this one has pointless chunks of sand on it that add to the price.

I think $55 or $60 would be a decent produce considering Lego’s recent set pricing. But I guess this is the unfortunate set that got stuck with insane pricing for seemingly no reason like the X-men jet and the justifier
With the Boba Fett being an ESB version, its the same with Darth Vader they keep re using the same Episode 3 print in sets from ANH,ESB and ROTJ.
I remember getting the one back in early 2010's and that was between £20-30. Comparing the both, I'd take that one over this one any day. They have no right justifying this price. And even boba fett not even having the basic shoulder cape? Thats iconic for him! Even as a 12 year old version of me back then really loved his shoulder piece to bits. Imagine having Vader in the luke vs Vader diorama without his cape. If they want to charge higher they need to put that extra effort in for the smaller details

A weequay/Skiff Guard should have definitely been included as you know one its going to be in the Sailbarge so why not reuse the figure.

I think the Minifigure lineup is nice, a shame to not have the RotJ Boba though. Would have been cool if there was someone else here to operate the skiff to better play out the scene before Boba flies over. Especially considering the price.
Build wise the Skiff is the best part, it's never looked better in LEGO form. As for the Sarlaac Pit It eats up most of the build. It's great to have the sand sloping into the Sarlaac's mouth but the steep drop around the outside makes it look a little rough, even knowing it wouldn't be possible to continue the miles of desert all around into a build like this. Something simpler and smaller would have been fine for a set like this. Put this with the Sail Barge and I'd probably change my tune.
The skiff stands’ lack of height disturbs me.
It's a lot of the piece count for the sand surrounding the sarlac, compared to the last two versions.
Makes me think either the set could have been cheaper or the skiff itself larger or more detailed, and I'd probably have preferred that.
I think my favorite things about this set are definitely the figures and the skiff, it's a shame Boba's in his ESB form though. Would've been nice to have a ROTJ Boba instead.

I totally agree with kids noticing Boba Fett. I grew up pouring over all of the visual dictionaries that were out there at the time.

I understand the criticism towards to Sarlacc Pit, but i think it's also worth mentioning that this is the FIRST time we've ever gotten the Sarlacc PIT as opposed to the "Sarlacc teeth sticking out of the ground". This Sarlacc puts all the others into shame.
Is it great? No, of course not. The Sarlacc is a massive creature if you want a good one you'd have to pay a lot more for it. Would i personally have designed it differently? Yes. I would've made it more as a cut through so that you could see more of the tooth wall and have it taller with the ability to put the skiff floating on it's edge. That way you could actually play more with the Sarlacc pit itself and it'd allow for you to get two sets and make a full Sarlacc mouth.
That being said I'm probably gonna get two of these just to have two excellent skiffs and a custom built Sarlacc that'll work nicely with the Sail Barge.
But I am happy that we finally get a Sarlacc Pit. I never bothered with the older sets as their pathetic attempts at making the Sarlacc were just embarrassing.
for that price. would have been nice to throw in one of the them bald pirate aliens. Just so Bob is not the only bad guy(not counting sarlacc) in the set.

I agree, the sarlack pit being built up looks interesting and the wrong boba fett suit is disappointing and a missed opportunity by Lego, considering they’ve given us the correct suit in the last sarlack pit

That’s actually the normal Luke head that’s been used for years (the last one had cheekbones)
It’s the way the hairpiece interacts with it that makes it seem off.
I don’t think the Luke face they’ve been using represents ROTJ-era Hamill very well. The more lined 2014 one was a little better for that imo, but it’s nice to get this look again

I think the Sarlaac may be blocky at the back so you can attach the stand for the skiff and increase the height so it sits above the pit. Not sure why that left blocky bit is there though.
Ok, expensive. But you can't really gives us a shoulder cape for Boba at this price!? Really!?!? It was bad enough that Maul didn't get a hood and cloak for the infiltrator set.

Great video. But man this easily a 45-50€ set. 80€ should not be even an option. I feel like at this point Lego is just checking the limit that people will pay for this sets. The other one that you talked about today, 50€ is kinda reasonable but like you said 10$ per figure…. Can’t wait for the reviews😅
I feel like the Luke hair is the closest to accurate version we've ever got. I've never been happy with Luke's hair and I'm usually not fussy about this stuff.
Totally agree with Jang that too many people complain about the price or the set but then buy it when it comes out. It's especially bad with Lego Star Wars fans

Nien Nunb is one of my favourite Star Wars characters so when I first saw this I was thinking yep, day one purchase. Then I saw the price and I thought, yep Ill buy off bricklink! 🤣
At first I thought this set was INSANELY overpriced looking at the skiff (shrinkflated) and glancing at the sarlacc. But then I actually looked at how big and built up the SAND around the sarlac was and now the price makes more sense. BUT why in the world is the sand built up so much around the sarlac put anyways. All of the previous $5-10 worth of parts sarlacc pits from previous years would’ve worked just fine.

The skiff should be supported by 2 transparent ladders or poles that can be attached to the actual pit to give the impression of floating. The transparent columns look poor.
I’m very tempted to get this, but I might have to hold off due to the ludicrous price. Nien Numb is the main draw of the set, but I’ve never had a skiff or Sarlacc to everything else is a bonus.
I'm really enjoying being an AFOL this year with the great kits this year. Even the new helicarrier over at marvel.

I actually like the Sarlacc pit. Though this might actually be a case where they might benefit from borrowing a technique from the past and making one or more big plastic bases like they used to make - configured to give us a big Sarlacc Pit instead an island or mountain or what-not, with a few extra parts attached here and there to make it look better. Who wants to build a huge sand mound one brick at a time?
Lando legs being brown with tan printing is a miss too, the pants are tan. Dual molding is ideal but I think tan was the way to go here.

Great review. With all these tan pieces, I'm thinking how i can moc up another giant Sandworm for my Lego Dune collection. 😂 It won't be any time soon, as i have a few Lego and model kits waiting to be made.
The tricky thing with the Sarlacc pit, having built a MOC for myself, is that you need to build a pretty sizable ground in order to get the proper sunken pit look. I think of they released a large scale one they might be able to do it better, but i doubt it, it wpuld mostly have to be a big block sand bricks.
Watched this one just to see how long it would take before complaining about the Special Edition, was not disappointed. #ReleaseTheOriginalTrilogy

at 80$ I'd rather see: 2 Skiffs, a simple tan Audrey II with no built-up pit walls.
Good mini figure line up. It feels like lego are proving sets based on people waiting for discounts (ie the discounted price is actually the real proce).
Sarlacc is just huge, absolutely huge. I just wish the stand was high enough to put the plank over the pit. Don't pay $80, wait until its on sale for $64 next year.
I can overlook the high profile of the skiff but it needs to be at least 3-4 studs longer
1:16 I, I, I can answer this! If you buy two of these sets and add an 2x4 tile in tan from you own fundus you can build a double pit. At least I believe that is what Lego wants you to do.

They really don’t seem to like doing fabric pieces for Star Wars figures anymore. Don’t know why as they still do it for other themes? 🤔😂🤷

I was such a big boba fett fan even as a kid I definitely would have noticed this, but I'm more upset about the lack of his little cape thing. That price is actually insane though I've had to skip so many sets this year just because of the crazy pricing.

I got this set the 2013 version? I like the pit version of this but the skiff is just lacking here
They possibly could have made their smallest Sarlacc yet, and given us two skiffs for this price.
Without the overbuilt Sarlac pit this set could easily be around $50
I wonder if all that sand could be differently configured to build just a sufficiently deep pit ... but you'd need a table with a big hole in it.

It's about time that they did Nien Nunb! I'm still waiting for them to ACTUALLY do Leia's hair as it appeared in the Cloud City scenes in Episode 5; they've released 3 Cloud City sets, one a really expensive special edition Collector's set (along the lines of the latest Mos Eisley set), and they STILL haven't done it justice!
They could’ve added a second skiff with all the bad aliens but they just made the sarlacc bigger
Lando, Nien and the skiff are wins. I'd just sell the rest on eBay. The pit just looks awkward raised up like that. The sides should all be flat, or not. That one corner really stands out.

I would have preferred a “battle pack” style with 2 less expensive sets, a good guy skiff and a bad guy skiff, then if you get both to combine them to make the ultimate Sarlac
Jang, is there any specific reason why you started doing unveilings one by one instead of combining them by theme?
I really preferred the longer videos with multiple sets, but if you need to do that for the algorithm or something, it's okay too.
I like the set and I will want to get it but will most likely wait for big sales cos that price is a bit much.
the pit doesn’t just look strange in the box art, i just feel like…it didn’t need to be that big. The parts should have gone to something bc else if not just a cheaper price point (although those are set at like beginning of production so 🤷
I am having no luck! First they stick the 25th anniversary Leia is the Mr. Potato style Astromech set, then they put the next one in a severely overprices Sarlacc Pit!
I swear, it's like they put the anniversary figs in great sets at the start of the year so customers would get them, then put them in worse, overpriced sets later in the year hoping you'd get them because you've already started your journey of getting all the 25th anniversary figs.
ROTJ Fett also has a different belt compared to ESB Fett

$80/£75-60 for the Desert Skiff is a bit more than i expected it should be 60, but I'm definitely picking it up as i won't be getting the Sailbarge as i could afford it $500/£400 is just too steep and 80s far more manageable.

I’d feel comfortable paying $80 if they included a second skiff and the correct boba. I’m excited to get this set but probably won’t pay more than $55 for it.
As far as figures, the biggest issue I have isn't Boba as I didn't even know there was a difference between the 2 movies, but the lack of a skiff driver. Would've made it feel more complete. Price point is yeesh; I'll only get this on a discount, either with insider points or otherwise. That kind of price would have me expecting around 800 pieces, or at least ample use of very large pieces. Very cool set, but not $80 cool. I'll wait.
I've felt something off with that new Luke Skywalker hair since it was first included in the Death Star battle diorama. It's definitely accurate, no doubt, but there is something almost too real about it? It changes the shape of the minifigure's head? Or maybe the colour and texture combo makes it look weirdly HD, but also too smooth? There's just something that doesn't quite blend with the minifigure look, and I can't quite put my finger on it.
