I Remember when the darth Vader tie and A wing retailed for 80£ and all the reviewers bashed the price, compared to this it seems reasonable, especially for play for kids.

Without the sand how do you actually think they’d do it? Look at every other sarlacc put we’ve gotten. If you sit it on a table it won’t look like a pit it sits on top of the table. That’s why the sand is here, to make it look like a pit. You need glasses?

Frankly I'm sick of hearing the inflation excuse it doesn't apply to Lego when they make a 30% profit margins when the standard expected profit margins is 10% for most businesses.
For that price, it should of come with two Jabbas henchmen, I mean there's no bad guys on the skiff, so basically Lando could of just drove off into the sun sets😂😂

The last skiff that had Lando and an accurate ROTJ Boba Fett was 9496, which was $25 retail. The skiff and the sarlac are really nice, but the mini figs are inferior and the price laughable. It’s already being offered on discount which tells you even retailers think this is overpriced. This set should be $50 max.

This is refreshing, especially from David. I’m getting sick of channels trying to justify expensive sets. For the amount of stuff you get, it’s nowhere near worth it.
I got really into collecting lego again recently for the first time since I was a kid and I’m now just thinking I picked a really bad time for it. Every time a new set comes out I almost always end up thinking “oh, that’s a cool set, shame about the price. Guess I’m not getting it.”
In my case I grew up with the clone wars era sets and didnt have money to buy them since, well, i was a kid. Now that i earn some money it seems either there are no sets that i like or the ones i like are way overpriced, I feel you.
A couple of things. Nien Numb hasn’t been in a LEGO set before but a supposed relative Ten Numb has been in minifig form twice with no molded heads. Secondly I think you confirm there is actually a Jabba’s sail barge headed our way when you say that the skiff looks like it’s UCS quality and it makes sense since it’s supposed to pair with a UCS set… :)
Should have had the Sarlac pit as a gift with purchase with the Jabba sail barge and the skiff as a $40 set with all the figs. I would have preferred a play scale sized barge instead of something the size of my TV set.
I will buy this set because of nostalgia. I missed on last two Sarlacc pit sets (despite wanting them so badly) because I was a kid and "bigger" licensed LEGO sets were out of my parents wallet price range. Since I have my own money now, I really need this. Definitely not for that retail price, though.

I also commend you for being critical, which in my opinion you always are very fair and don’t understand some of the previous comments saying you’re biased, I never got that feeling. I totally agree that this is extremely overpriced, but if the UCS Barge rumors are true, it’s gonna be very difficult for me to not want this side by side to the barge 🥲 which I think was the point of the pricing of this set as you’ve stated. I wish I had the willpower to wait for a price decrease, and I shouldn’t complain about the price if I’m getting it once the barge comes out, again, if the rumors are true. One thing that is a huge miss from this set is LEGO not going the extra mile detail-wise and not giving us a ROTJ Boba Fett. The 2017 was more accurate in this regard. I would’ve also appreciated a weequay skiff guard.
I make an Amazon registry with all the sets, send it to the family before Christmas, then I buy what's remaining on the list after the holidays once it goes on sale. It's saved me so much money.
It would be nice if those 25th Anniversary platforms came with a clear case cover that mounted over the minifig. It would display well and be easier to keep dusted.
David. I remain consistently appreciative of your accurate and unbiased reviews despite your ongoing relationship with LEGO. I personally think the nose on this skiff should’ve had more point and less of an acute angle if you look at the original source material. The very first they ever came out withcaptured that well in that 1999/2000 style. Given what they were able to do shape wise with Boba Fett starships, I’m pretty sure they could have combo different slope shapes together to achieve this better than what they did here
I do want to say I think the battle of peridia (sorry for the bad spelling) took the $55 price tag for this set. Granite neither of these sets are worthy of an $80 price tag
Add the second skiff, raise them both up so they can actually be above the pit. Add in some of the guards that Luke takes out when he does the springboard move. Give Boba Fett his pauldron so it actually looks like Return of the Jedi Boba. And then maybe adjust the pit so it looks more like a pit in the ground and not a weird hill. All of a sudden $80 feels perfect. Hell at that point, maybe it would need to be closer to $100 and not feel so bad either.

Yes. When I was younger Lego was never on sale because it was the most popular toy. Now in some stores sets are launching with a discount already applied, yet Lego keeps making billions of dollars and record profits most years.
The 2012 Desert skiff was my favourite Lego set of all time I was trying to put it back together this year but then 2 days later someone said there were leaks that a new one is coming out, so I'm definitely getting this set when it comes out
Does every Lego reviewer complain about price? Basically 95% of all Lego is "overpriced" according to reviewers. The price is the price and it's not going down...ever. Lego set their profit margins and it's not 2007 anymore. What metric is this even based on? How can anyone say something is too expensive or overpriced without knowing production costs, licensing fees, payroll, taxes, etc.. Finally, how can all these Lego's be so "overpriced" if everyone is purchasing and sales and profits keep increasing? Lego is selling more sets overall now than probably ever before in history, so how can so many people claim it's not affordable?
I remember when you could get the entire sail barge for $80. Set 6210 had a skiff, sarlacc pit and one of the best sail barge designs for $75. I get inflation is a thing, but like this is absurd.
Have the 2016 or 17 one. This definitely would work better as a display set. Only thing I’d really care about are the mini figures that I don’t have from the other one but all the extra details aren’t what I feel like everyone wants from the set.
Who else’s still in love with the original Desert Skiff and Sarlac pit from 2012 ? The design wasn’t really accurate but the ship had a tone of play features and the Sarlac looked really ferocious and plant like (which is kind of what it is). The value was great for that time ! 🤙🏼
I think that if they downsized the sarlacc and included a second skiff for $80, I'd buy it. But as is, I can get a retired skiff for less than $80 and get the nostalgia along with it.
If I didn't have set 9496 (the desert skiff from 2012) I'd just buy a never opened one (or slightly used one) for +/- $50 and get Han and Chewbacca for an extra $5. The bigger Sarlac Pit is not worth 25 bucks (and u get a unique pirate figure instead of the anniversary one) PS. I don't remember if handcuffs came in the 2012 set but a pack of 3x costs 0.0045 euro on bricklink, come on.
If we’re talking price per piece, the inflation adjusted average ppp is about thirteen cents per piece, NOT ten cents per piece as was the standard ten years ago. With that standard, this set should be priced at around $70. So still a bit pricey imo but not as big a deal as people make it out to be.
We have never got Nien Numb as a figure before we have had 2 variants of Ten Numb who is a completely different character, 1 from 2006 B-Wing and 1 from 2014 B-Wing.
These prices are really getting ridiculous. Here in Norway they have priced it at 1099 NOK, which is about 104 USD. When I was a kid you could get the big flagship sets for that price. I understand inflation and licensing fees, but this is just wild.
I don't enjoy reading/making comments like this but I need to have a "back in my day" moment for a sec. In 2012 I was able to get nearly the same set for 25 dollars. From everything I am seeing the builds are marginally better with two additional minifigs, one that isn't even scene relevant. I'll bow to the general inflation point but 80 dollars for a set that loses all reason past 50 isn't selling. UCS accessory pack or no this will likely be a clearance set even for those that are interested. Yikes all around for this one. This kind of stuff is not doing favors for the brand
Everyone has been getting way more expensive with inflation, but 80 bucks for a set maybe would cost 35-50 is best price to rate it, same with the asohka one., even the mando gate set and battlepack (can combine 2 of those with the gate) gate and battlepack I managed to get for 50 together. This set would be best to combine with a UCS Sail Barge if in scale. Same as the At-St is simlar scale as the walker, and the snowtrooper battlepacks to supplement the At-At.
It sucks, I will be getting the Barge, so this is going in the cart. Aim a little higher!!! Nien Nunb will probably get displied with mini Falcon set At 80 dollars they could extend a sand dune behind the pit to raise the height of the skiff, this would have been a great diorama set

I hope this year teaches Lego that nobody is gonna buy stuff this expensive no matter how good it is
I've seen a lot of people saying they will buy this set when it's on sale. Do you think that's why some sets lately have been overpriced? So lego can "reduce" the price during a sale to what it should actually be. Instead of releasing it at £50 and then reducing it more?
Yes. When I was younger Lego was never on sale because it was the most popular toy. Now in some stores sets are launching with a discount already applied, yet Lego keeps making billions of dollars and record profits most years.

The 2012 Desert skiff was my favourite Lego set of all time I was trying to put it back together this year but then 2 days later someone said there were leaks that a new one is coming out, so I'm definitely getting this set when it comes out
Does every Lego reviewer complain about price? Basically 95% of all Lego is "overpriced" according to reviewers. The price is the price and it's not going down...ever. Lego set their profit margins and it's not 2007 anymore. What metric is this even based on? How can anyone say something is too expensive or overpriced without knowing production costs, licensing fees, payroll, taxes, etc.. Finally, how can all these Lego's be so "overpriced" if everyone is purchasing and sales and profits keep increasing? Lego is selling more sets overall now than probably ever before in history, so how can so many people claim it's not affordable?
Lego deciding to take out the middleman. The middleman being scalpers. So much nicer to have the all-in-one experience at the start.

I love how Lego has clearly let reviewers put there reviews out immediately after the reveal so as not to let M&R get ahead of them again.
I remember when you could get the entire sail barge for $80. Set 6210 had a skiff, sarlacc pit and one of the best sail barge designs for $75. I get inflation is a thing, but like this is absurd.

Why is the sarlacc pit rectangular and not round? For $80 they couldn't make the mouth circular?
Have the 2016 or 17 one. This definitely would work better as a display set. Only thing I’d really care about are the mini figures that I don’t have from the other one but all the extra details aren’t what I feel like everyone wants from the set.
Who else’s still in love with the original Desert Skiff and Sarlac pit from 2012 ? The design wasn’t really accurate but the ship had a tone of play features and the Sarlac looked really ferocious and plant like (which is kind of what it is). The value was great for that time ! 🤙🏼

I think that if they downsized the sarlacc and included a second skiff for $80, I'd buy it. But as is, I can get a retired skiff for less than $80 and get the nostalgia along with it.

If I didn't have set 9496 (the desert skiff from 2012) I'd just buy a never opened one (or slightly used one) for +/- $50 and get Han and Chewbacca for an extra $5.
The bigger Sarlac Pit is not worth 25 bucks (and u get a unique pirate figure instead of the anniversary one)
PS. I don't remember if handcuffs came in the 2012 set but a pack of 3x costs 0.0045 euro on bricklink, come on.
If we’re talking price per piece, the inflation adjusted average ppp is about thirteen cents per piece, NOT ten cents per piece as was the standard ten years ago. With that standard, this set should be priced at around $70. So still a bit pricey imo but not as big a deal as people make it out to be.
We have never got Nien Numb as a figure before we have had 2 variants of Ten Numb who is a completely different character, 1 from 2006 B-Wing and 1 from 2014 B-Wing.
This is so funny that this set uses the $40 box size from 2015-2018 but costs $80.

These prices are really getting ridiculous. Here in Norway they have priced it at 1099 NOK, which is about 104 USD. When I was a kid you could get the big flagship sets for that price. I understand inflation and licensing fees, but this is just wild.
i love this set sm. i would definitely have gotten it if it weren't for the PRICE! 80$ is absurd. such a shame, the builds and figures are so good.

In 2012 I was able to get nearly the same set for 25 dollars. From everything I am seeing the builds are marginally better with two additional minifigs, one that isn't even scene relevant. I'll bow to the general inflation point but 80 dollars for a set that loses all reason past 50 isn't selling. UCS accessory pack or no this will likely be a clearance set even for those that are interested.

I’ll probably just buy it on discount. It looks great, that Luke looks amazing and that Nein Nub is beyond amazing. But $80 is too much I think.

Everyone has been getting way more expensive with inflation, but 80 bucks for a set maybe would cost 35-50 is best price to rate it, same with the asohka one., even the mando gate set and battlepack (can combine 2 of those with the gate) gate and battlepack I managed to get for 50 together. This set would be best to combine with a UCS Sail Barge if in scale. Same as the At-St is simlar scale as the walker, and the snowtrooper battlepacks to supplement the At-At.

At 80 dollars they could extend a sand dune behind the pit to raise the height of the skiff, this would have been a great diorama set

The Boba Fett minifigure is the Empire strikes back version of his design which really annoys me, and Nien Nunb is a new character for LEGO, the previous one that was released with a printed head was Ten Nunb
