- Alessio's Southern American breakfast review went SO well that we decided to try another famous breakfast restaurant in the United States- Waffle House! Chocolate chip waffles, hashbrowns (scattered, smothered, covered of course!), the All-Star special, grits, ham, bacon, sausage and more! We also had to get his review of American coffee, which he affectionately refers to as "brown water". What's YOUR go-to Waffle House order??

Wow, you actually got him to dip the grilled cheese in the ketchup...brave 😂. I still consider Waffle House to be a Southern chain since it was founded in Georgia and the vast majority of its locations are in the South. I just love the fact that a government agency (FEMA) uses a thing called the Waffle House Index. For those who don't know, it's used when determining how dangerous a storm is based on the performance of Waffle House locations. It has three levels, Green, Yellow, and Red. If Green, it means the restaurant is open, full menu, has power, and has minimal damage. If Yellow, it means food supplies are running low or the power is either out or powered by a generator. If Red, it means the restaurant is closed and this means severe damage or flooding.

🤌🏼 Great job. My wife and I are hooked on The Pasinis. You need to expose Alessio to more southern foods. Boiled peanuts, barbecue, fried chicken, with collard greens and black eyed peas, fried green tomatoes, chicken and dumplings, peach cobbler, banana pudding, tomato sandwiches, frito pie, po boys, brunswick stew, chicken fried steak, hummingbird cake, shrimp and grits, red beans and rice. Looking forward to more.

For me, American breakfast is about one thing: eggs with runny yolks on top of some sort of potato (hash browns/american fries/skillet) and the runny yolk makes a sauce for everything. So good 👍👍
Jessi, I recently discovered this channel & as a person who is a quarter Italian I love seeing Alessio’s reactions to new American things. I do wish you guys would come to the Atlanta area where I live to try such restaurants as the soul food restaurants in the Auburn Avenue area, Merry Mac’s tea room, The Vortex, Fox Brothers and City Lights BBQ, and Grindhouse Killer Burgers. Also you need to see what he thinks of the following restaurants not just in the Atlanta area: Uncle Maddio’s, Mellow Mushroom, and Blaze (all three Pizza joints), Farm Burger and Bad Daddy’s Burgers, and Ted Turner’s Grill (if he hasn’t introduce him to a Buffalo or Bison burger or meatloaf).

You two are awesome!! My fav WH is of course the All-Star; eggs over easy, hashbrowns, bacon with fat rendered, but not crispy, raisin toast, and instead of a waffle, biscuits and gravy. The first thing is to cut up the eggs and mix them with part of the hashbrowns. And put ketchup on the other part of the hashbrowns. B&G for desert...LOL. It is a warming comfortable meal.

Right, I was there for the first time a couple months ago, it was very underwelming, and ended up feeling bloated in a bad way after. For that price I rather get some Mcdonalds.
Waffle House to me is very scary nutritional wise and I always feel like they might be filthy inside. Who knows???? I’m sure there are some that are nice inside. I guess I could brave it and go to one so I know what it’s like.
The two of you are so refreshing to watch. I love the way you interact with each other. You must exercise quite a bit because both of you seem to be in great shape despite the amount of calorie laden food that you consume. 🤣. By the way. I was born and raised in Poland so I agree with Alessio, it is such an American diner experience. Anyway I went to a Waffle House few months ago here in Arkansas, it wasn’t good experience. Maybe I should try another one lol. I loved American diners in NJ were I lived for 8 years! Those were great!
Definitely try another one! I drive around the US a lot, and I always stop at Waffle House when I can. I've been to them in probably 8 different states, I personally have never had a bad meal at any of them. I always get a large order of hash browns, covered (melted cheese), chunked (diced smoked ham), diced (grilled tomatoes), and peppered (jalapenos). Side of bacon and toast. We don't have any near where I live, so it's a special treat for me when I'm out on the road.

I think this is my favorite one, I love the WaHo. It will always be one of my favorite places to eat. I'm glad he can appreciate such an American staple.
When you're on a long road trip, you've driven through half the night, and you still have a ways to go, nothing better than waffle House at 5:30AM.

My favorite is the one plate Alessio had - two eggs over easy, hashbrowns and toast. I mix the eggs with the hashbrowns. YUM!
I would love to see you guys go to each of the famous breakfast places in Nashville to try. When we were there I wanted to try them all but not enough time. We went to Milk & Honey and I literally had the BEST iced latte I’ve ever had there, it was called the burnt sugar latte. I see they have gelato too ;) Definitely go to Biscuit Love, Pancake Pantry, Elliston Place Soda Shop, and Pucketts Grocery & Restaurant
Yea it's weird that don't go to any of the good coffee places or Italian markets where they live.

They don't list everything on the little menu. They sometimes will show you a bigger menu. My favorite is a simple cheese omelet that comes with sides--I always get toast (sometimes raisin toast) and cheese grits. 🙂 Simple but perfect.

Waffle House was one of the things that I was able to cross off my list in 2016. Food was absolutely spot-on and delicious.
Fun fact: the National Weather Service has a Waffle House index for the strength of severe storms. If a Waffle House in the area actually closes, you know mud is hitting the fan for a nasty storm.
Waffle House IS a Southern thing. It started in 1955 in the Atlanta area. My favorite is the 'smothered and covered'. (hashbrowns with everything on it)
Smothered and covered is just onions and cheese. Everything is called All-the-way.
Did you know that waffle house uses their own brand of coffee beans. Our waffle house use to sell them by the bag. I still have some in my freezer

Get the All Star Bkfst if really hungry. Each WH has a photo of two Air Force officers that were B17 pilots in WWII and were friends. After the war they started the WH in Atlanta. Also in Dec. each WH gets 35 Christmas mugs with the year on it. Each year is different. If you want one ask a waitress, they go fast. Best FREE entertainment in the world. Go to a WH after the bars close on a Saturday night. Just make sure you know the exit if you need to get out in a hurry.

When a friend of mine that I would go out to eat with would ask where should we go out to eat at....sometimes I would say, I don't know. Her reply was, how about a big girls breakfast at Waffle House?

I love that Alessio enjoys a good old American breakfast. It really is delicious and can’t be beat. I would put the American breakfast at the top and with the same yumminess as a Turkish/Middle Eastern breakfast.
Need to have the true waffle house experience, fight the cook at midnight!

My favorites at WH are hash browns, buttered, with the eggs on top, eaten together... and pecan waffles (pronounced 'puh-kahn').

Pecan Waffle, eggs over medium, Hash Browns with onion and cheese, wheat toast, sausage patties, maple syrup on waffle. You can get an extra egg, and extra hash browns for an absolute feast!
🤌 Can never go wrong with a bacon and egg breakfast and a great cup of coffee. I don't eat out much. We don't have a Waffle House here in Australia. But, I'd give it a try for sure. :)

I'll never forget my first Waffle House experience - pretty close to the waitress catching the flying chair! I must tell you that - it appears your Waffle House location is pretty "classy" for the chain! LOL
In Ohio they are classy and clean like they went to. Maybe Tennessee and further north are the classy, clean ones and Georgia / Alabama are the wild originals?

Waffle House is pretty much Southern if not for the menu for the institution it is in those states. That said, the only ones I've been to are in NE Florida.😄 I visited a friend there and when he picked me up at the Daytona Beach airport the first place we went was a Waffle House. I loved it! The food was tasty and cheap. Plus the whole vibe just seem to fit. Much better than Denny's here in California.
Growing up in the Midwest we didn’t have waffle houses. We moved to the south and I have high expectations of it since I heard it was the spot lol. I’d give it a 6-7/10 as a whole. Service is great but I think my expectations were higher than they should’ve been.
Yea, it's slightly overblown. You are much better off finding a local greasy spoon to get really good southern meals.

There are so many different ways to eat grits. I learned a new way watching this video. My favorite way is heavy pepper, no butter, no salt and instead get saltiness from crumbling up bacon into the grits.
5:07 that is one of the most American things you can do. How many flavors do you want? Yes. If you want something good put an egg over easy on top of a sausage patty.
