Don't pay, get sued and they win, they can and often will send people to your house to literally take away your belongings to sell them at auction to pay off your debt. That being said, I am surprised some people seem shocked that they don't just go away and will often take them to court if they feel it is worth it.

How is that useful advise? They can certainly sue you in Texas and if a judgment is against you, and if it comes down to it, they can go after bank account. Its my understanding that they will not take social security income. The only way I can see that you did not pay a dime is that the statue of limitations ran out on the debt, or you filed for bankruptcy, or the creditor just didn't think it was worth to sue you. People call an attorney that deals with stuff like this. Most will give a free consolation so you can ask all the questions you may have. Your advise doesn't really help. Good luck with the new debt.

It’s such an excuse to blame your upbringing for you getting into debt. Completely deflecting blame and responsibility. I grew up poor with a parent in and out of prison, kicked out at 16… I still managed to land on my feet, start a business, graduate school, paid my bills all on my own… your life is what you make of it.

Do yourself a favor and use that money to pay off your car and keep paying the minimum on your student loans. After you do that start looking for a higher paying job. This poor guy is still discouraged after talking to these guys and he really has a small amount of manageable debt and his car payment is nothing.

Actually since the debt collector has bought his debt, technically he doesn’t owe it.. it was sold which means his debt was bought and technically he owes Best Buy nothing… as long as he didn’t talk to the debt collectors and under the new FDCPA the only way they can come collect if they have spoken to him and he verbally said he will pay it or has responded to the letter and he can sue this company for it… look it up… don’t pay the debt my friend. I saw this on credit karma. It’s true! According to Credit Karma the legal clock starts again if you make contact with the debt collectors. So once it’s in collections just leave it alone.

I lived in Gainesville. I went to college out there. You can get a shared place to live for 300-400 and I had a studio for in the $700s. There’s plenty of bars or restaurant jobs. Also, loads of door dash etc. you chose to not make any money.
