I appreciate his call. Our focus changes as our situation improves. People who are at rhe top of the mountain recognize the top of the mountain isn't what motivated them as much as the adventure of getting there.
I've been to the top of a mountain - it's a cold, desolate place with no community, no ice-cream, no 'connection' to anything other than the concept of your own insignificance. The mountain doesn't care if you climb it or not - people come-down from the top of the mountain eventually, because 'life' is in the valley, where the village is.
The fault I would give Dave Ramsey is he is not clear with callers that he makes money from the endorsed local providers he recommends. He should be clearer when communicating the financial interest he has when he recommends services.

@Eric Cuevas If you live in the US, there is a greater than 50 percent chance you don't take care of yourself. I am being very generous with that number. But even wealthy people eat garbage then use up medical resources to fix the problem they created. Anyone that has financial security should not be complaining.
@@NR-xd1vw The human psyche is not put to sleep just because there are not financial worries. Loneliness can still occur, sadness can still occur. Rich people cry when their children are sick or die. those are great things to do, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't change their life trajectory. what would be great would be to give strangers money, but also teach them a little bit about basic personal finance and compound interest. a simple compound interest calculator example is what really made it click for me. an example such as 10k invested each year for 40 years at a 7% return ends up being worth $2,136,095. 10's of millions of people in the US can afford to invest 10k a year, but very few of them actually do so, because of fear or simply not knowing what they're missing out on.

After a few months I started investing in dividend stocks with a new goal The goal was to cover my phone, electric, gas , water and property tax bills. All with dividend money. Now I am not only debt free , but I am bill free and I have a new goal which may take me a 3-5 more years but that goal is simply to bring in 4000 a month in dividend income at my current investing rate. Go bless everyone.
How long did it take you to build up dividend income to cover bills? I'm just at that stage now, paid my house off and starting to invest in stocks for the first time
So true...we've lived like no one else and have found it so satisfying that we see no reason to change our lifestyle ever. By keeping our lives reasonable it keeps them easy and problem free. As you get older, this becomes more and more important.
When you understand money is not happiness, wether you’re poor, rich... you know its time to help people and enjoy the rest of your life with happiness!!
I agree with that to a certain point, but I think we’d all be happier in an building with a roof over our head and food on our table than being homeless and starving.
There’s so many things a person could do in this position...help repair homes for the elderly, build ramps for the disabled, buy Christmas gifts for kids that wouldn’t have a Christmas otherwise, have holiday dinners for the homeless, poor or elderly and cook and help serve it, sponsor homes for people recovering from addictions or domestic violence and help mentor those people,....I wish this was my problem. I don’t have a lot to give but I still try to little things that sometimes aren’t even about money. A few weeks ago, the line was seriously slow at a little grocery store I was in. There were three guys that looked like they had just got off work and was tired and only had a few items. I was ahead of them line but I insisted they go first. They were so appreciative and just kept thanking me...and it was such a small thing...but I really didn’t have much extra money that week and that was my small act of kindness. Sometimes I’ll give a child begging for a candy bar just five bucks...that’s a little tricky..you have to okay it with the parent..but you can often tell when that parent just doesn’t have it as opposed to they just don’t want their child to have it. But I don’t judge..I just don’t. Once a woman was paying in change for cigarettes in front of me in line and you could tell she had a super hard life, probably on drugs, but I bought those. It may have been the only kindness shown to her in a year...who knows. I try to be observant and if there’s some small thing I can do, I step up and do it. I can’t do much, because I’m not in that position, but these small things help me, and people are very appreciative of kindness.
It's unlikely, because you develop a thought process for how money is spent while you are building wealth. Once you have it, you are happy to give to organizations that you believe in, but you want to give it away in very known quantities.
Man, this call RESONATES WITH ME! I was hungry in my career for many years -- mainly because I was busting it to get debt free. Flash forward to now (mid fifties) and I have no mortgage, no debts of any sort. My job is even with my own company that pays a recurring monthly income based on a solid client base, so I don't even have to work that hard if I don't want to. So what motivates me now? What indeed.

@@sunnyd4734 What you are saying is confusing. This guy didn't reach self-actualization, that's his need. It's not as straightforward as making x amount of money, he's talking about meaning of life. I think it goes to show that MONEY DOESN"T SOLVE ALL PROBLEMS. Your problems just change overtime. More money just means different kinds of problems. Tax // Litigation // Where it goes etc. What do other people think? 🤔
When I reached that stage, I started giving to an animal shelter. One that I visit and where I can see in person what they do to help animals. Seeing the animals rescued, treated and saved makes me so happy. Earning money is even more rewarding now that it is used directly for something like that.

Or living within means, zero debt, with all the money and time needed to just leave work to spend the time with loved one and no financial worries.
This caller’s situation is very real. I am in a similar spot. I really feel like my life was more satisfying when I was making 50k a year and trying to figure out how to achieve and get the things I want. It is not as simple as just giving the money away. It is like you live most of your life with money being the limiting factor as to what you can do. Say for example you like playing golf and you want new clubs. You might search around for used ones, do some trading, maybe some side work so you can get the clubs you want, The whole process is so satisfying. You appreciate things more when you have to work and plan for them. When you can just write a check for anything it really takes the enjoyment out of it. Being comfortable and stress free is nice but it really sucks the fun out of hobbies and goals.
What could be more "satisfying" or a challenge then to invest in other people in need, someone you can ACTUALLY make a Visual change in. Your coming full circle. Either that or write a book 🤣🤣
That's like when u use the cheats in video games. It's not fun anymore. I'd do farming. Working with your hands and creating crop and caring for animals would give me satisfaction and on side of that I would start a foundation which provides scholarships.
Matt 5:33- Happy are those conscious of thier spiritual need. Contrary what was shared in this video our purpose is not just to work and die. We have a real purpose that shared with us in Gods word, and its very opposite of what most of the world defines as success.
@@ejasonrichmond It was mostly a joke. Although I do believe verbalizing actual and tangible goals holds you more accountable to actually follow through with it.
I’ve found that once I reach an important goal, that I can find myself in a position where I just need to set a new goal. That time right after reaching the goal produces a void, and the remedy is a new goal - for me. That said, a million dollars is not that much money, these days. He’s comfortable, but he still has some work ahead of him to be truly wealthy with a ridiculous amount of money.
This is the most important video I’ve seen of Dave Ramsey’s. When I finished baby step 6 I fell into a horrible depression when I paid off my house. I was only 39 and I felt as if I already beat the game with too much time left. It’s really really weird. It feels just like buying a video game and beating the game in a week, yet, you can’t buy another game, and you’re just replaying a game over and over that gets boring.
To get hands on with my giving I started volunteering for Habitat for Humanity actually building the homes instead of writing a check. That was so rewarding that now I'm an electrician, and my "retirement" still involves me working 3 days a week, more if it's a project for a friend or a big safety issue. Find your passion and work becomes play!
I was in the same situation as he was about 15 yrs ago at 25. It was great, but was unfulfilled and needed something more. Now 15yrs later after taking a step back and looking at life differently has made a difference. The time you have on your hands is I think the biggest issue for most in this situation. Iwent from working multiple jobs/businesses after and during college to having all the time in the world. It's a completely different world. I focus on my health daily along with spending time with family and friends.
Yup. Making so much money actually magnified my DEPRESSION. Out of depression, I made stupid decisions on top of terrible choices. Took me going completely broke, hungry, and devastated to find healing and build myself back up. Now I’m am working, finding fulfillment, and healing- although I will always bear the scars, I won’t let them define me. There is that humility in poverty and that unshakable fear that makes you wake up and be grateful to try to be better every day
Another idea: pick a church school that you believe in, and start sponsoring students whose families want to send their kids there, but can’t afford it. Even if all you do is pay part, or even most of the tuition, and have the parents pay what they can, then go volunteer at the school and watch those kids blossom. THAT is amazing, and someday I would love to be able to do it.
I've been having a fairly hard year, disconnected from my profession of physical therapy since job loss and a clinic closure 5 months ago. Anxious about my career, student loans, and lack of meaningful work in my life. This video helped my optimism so much today. I'm interviewing for a job in a city I like and when I get there, hope to volunteer or work part time at the local bike store as well. I've got my fingers crossed, some deep breaths, and some hope to get back to helping people.
What that guy calls a miserable situation, I call Success. Sometimes you need to look at others that are struggling and be grateful where you are and that you are experiencing financial freedom.

You put too much value in manmade creations like college and scholarships. Guarantee the vast majority of people do not need a degree, they need certifications or apprenticeships for everyday/high availability placements, and to start learning from a younger age than they are made to now. By their parents and other adults in their community, not govt subsidized preschool. Did you know you can just study independently and pass college graduation exams without paying for classes? The mountain doesn't care if you climb it or not - people come-down from the top of the mountain eventually, because 'life' is in the valley, where the village is.

those are great things to do, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't change their life trajectory. what would be great would be to give strangers money, but also teach them a little bit about basic personal finance and compound interest.
a simple compound interest calculator example is what really made it click for me. an example such as 10k invested each year for 40 years at a 7% return ends up being worth $2,136,095.

I’m not giving money to anyone because I am my own charity in that respect.

Once i get to his point, i plan on starting a animal shelter

THAT is amazing, and someday I would love to be able to do it.
