I can completely relate to this with regard to working in the elements. Have worked in a 24/7 365 job most of my life. Working third shift outside in the winter is really tough, and summer isn't too much easier except for not having to deal with the snow & ice. Hats off to the cast & crew for the effort in making this, I really enjoyed it. FLY NAVY!!!
Thank you again for not sugar coating with the pioneers really went through! Little House on the prairie and the book series to me pretty much sugar coated everything! 1883 is as authentic as if the audience goes through standing Stones back to that time and experiences the trail drive with the immigrants and the trail Boss. Outstanding everything!
I agree that most westerns of the past several decades sugar-coat things, but I wouldn't include the "Little House" books since they are the genuine experiences of a girl who lived in those times, but mostly she wrote of them living in fairly settled rural areas, not traveling long distances through the wilds. The "Little House" TV series... loosely resembled he books and was mostly sugar-coated.
Unbelievable! Loved this account of 'some' of the extensive work that goes into making an authentic depiction of our history. Thank you, Taylor Sheridan and Company!
1883 is GOAT Don’t believe me See: episode 9 Hollywoke wished they could produce 55 minutes like episode 9 let alone 2 hours. 1883 is easily top 1-3 tv series EVER. From the score to cinematography
Faith and Tim and Elsa baby you guy's rocked the show the whole cast was rocking Elsa you had me. Laughing and crying I cried when u died even more when you.met Sam in spring this was the best 1883
Truly appreciate everyone's diligent dedication to the excellence of portraying the reality of the struggles of these families. How they had to trust each other, love beyond measure, push past the pain, ect... and survive with your heart and mind intact. Thank you for sharing your beautiful vision with the world. Your a blessing to tv when their's so many tv options out there that have no real substance to them. God bless you all and keep you all safe.... in Jesus name, Amen!
That's really fuckin cool!!! Watching this just brought this show into a whole other perspective. Much respect for all the work. What an awesome undertaking to tell a remarkable story.
Excellent! Episode 9 was full circle from the intro in Episode 1. And the horror and the dignity, even in war and death, left me breathless. When "Yellow Hair" (I forgot Elsa's Comanche name given to her by Sam) faced down the Lakota warriors and the utter surprise on the one warrior's face that this woman spoke Comanche was awesome. I love John Ford westerns but this one scene elevates the American Western by ten stories, easily! L.O.V.E. IT!
What a great episode. I think Elsa will die at the now Dutton Ranch and they will settle there. They might have named the ranch “Yellowstone” after her (Lightning with the Yellow Hair) and the land.
That's a good read into the story even though Yellowstone became a national park in 1872 how clever is that that Paradise valley which is where the Duttons actually in Sheridan's world settled it's 5 days away from Casper Wyoming the fort that they're trying to get to. I love this show!
@@LizzieWestBathandBody I love trying to put all of the clues together and think like Taylor Sheridan. Even though the national park was already signed into law by President Grant at the time, the ranch name “Yellowstone” may have been fitting for both the beauty of the land and Elsa’s spirit. If I’m not mistaken, Gov Perry said in the very beginning of the first episode that a Dutton was a founding father of Bozeman, which was incorporated in 1883 but actually founded in 1864. Also, I remember John saying in a speech that “Since 1886, every Dutton who has died is buried 300 yards from my back porch.” Maybe Elsa will survive longer than we think through healing at the fort or from the Native Americans, or maybe she will be with Sam when she dies. I just can’t see how they will kill her character off so quickly with her narrating the series. We shall see how the story unfolds!
I think there maybe a connection between John and Kacye taking Tate hunting and killing a deer and eating its organs and with Elsa eating the heart of the Buffalo maybe something handed down maybe the heart gives Elsa strength
@@SamSolasdonSaol There was only one episode that I didn't like Elsa's narration (episode 7, I think). Otherwise I like it, it adds something valuable.
If it's true that Elsa dies in #10 then how will they fill the 2nd season? I assume the wagon train will keep going and Shea will ride off into the sunset (with my subscription for Paramont+ since this is the only show on that channel worth watching).
I very much hope none of the core cast leaves. Sam Elliott as one of the leads is the main reason I gave this show a try, though the entire core cast is very strong. May they all be in all of Season 2!
There isn't supposed to be a direct follow-up season to this. This was intended for a one-season only kinda deal. There is, however, a "sequel" series to this that's titled 1932.
@@ComedyBros5 I hate to see a great cast only given one season. I'll give 1932 a chance, but since I have no overriding fascination with the Dutton family more than anyone else in 1883, whether I like 1932 will depend 100% on whether I like the characters/casting and the writing. I hope to like it.

I thought that too. It may have been Sam that put the sacred buffalo skull in there as well as the other trinket. If that's the case, Yellowstone John won't be to happy with developers digging up his kin.
Please explain why Elsa, once she stood up and encountered the first Indian, didn't tell him the truth? This character became really annoying and somehow illogical in actions. She had to be shot with an arrow to approach another guy and tell him they are the good ones. Otherwise great show.

Yep, life on the trail was dangerous. So was everything other activity in 1883. Mines, mills, factories, every economic offered scant protection to participants. Why the constant emphasis on immigrant unpreparedness? Should focus on selection of wrong start point. Story line is "incredible". Anachronism and goofs abound. Why a scoped rifle? Slow to aim and reload in close quarters fight. Too much ego at work.
Presenting a mere blink-of-the-eye to this time in Western history is, at best, faulty planning on the producer and writer's part. Such views of our earliest Western history, and its various era's, deserve a better story than this short glimpse. A 2nd round could have, would have, been an extremely interesting awakening for most Americans into the lives of homesteaders. The true facts of that intensely hard life and daily battle for survival are no less exciting and eye-opening. The lives of homesteaders of that era would certainly afford the writer(s) plenty of room for their 'Hollywood content'. Perhaps the task of delving into the details of the homesteading scenarios was too much work for the writer(s) and producer? It's a shame to spend so much money, so much fine writing, so much time only to give such a miniscule glimpse into the settling of The West. So much for Sheridan's "love" of this time and place in American History. At least we have Ken Burns to thank for a more complete and extensive understanding... minus the Hollywood treatment, of course.
This is not meant to be a historical show that spans 300 years of America's history. It's a story told at a "snapshot" of time. Plus, it cost over $10M to produce each episode .. who has the budget to produce a show that dives into the details of US history over 300 years at this quality?
What's even more disgusting is the white washing history that is taught in this country. Furthermore, if you paid attention to who Taylor Sheridan is - you would know he is a man of honor who will most certainly respect the land. This is why he's creating all of these epics... to educate, and promote, living with the land rather than on it. That it's better to live in harmony with one another rather than to attempt to dominate everything. We're supposed to be learning from the sins of our past.
