      @DebiFambro1039 -- When you are not feeling melancholy until hearing music, then you know you are hearing a music Minor scale. If a music Major scale changes its tempo from fast to slow or to a minor scale, it too, will evoke melancholy. Relax and enjoy the music knowing your brain / emotions are merely responding to a musical composition.

    When I first saw John as Capt, I thought...oh no.
    Then, the moment he spoke, I was there. So so so good. Excellent.

      You have to know that John is the consummate actor for any part he has played over the decades of his career. And yes, the very moment he spoke we all knew . . . he’s the Capt.

      In my opinion, Tommy Lee Jones IS Captain Woodrow F. Call!! To substitute anyone else, when Jones is still available is like substituting Festus for Jed Clampett and then raving how GREAT the imposter is as an actor??@@cleekmaker00

    Hi there, I am from INDIA, while in school during early 90........I used to read stories about the west during our library class......I enjoyed a lot reading stories by L'ouis L''Amour........one of it was the lonesome dove.........I got to watch the movie ......and am so happy about it please post more movies by L'a A'mour.........I will be very greatful to you.......Thanks.

      Then let me educate you Larry McMurtry wrote lonesome dove not louie L'Amour maybe you should watch the Sacketts that's definitely a L'Amour novel

      @@deweybarnes61 try a Google search who wrote the novel lonesome dove try this and then try to educate yourself if you need time get stranded on deserted islands or train for scores of boxing matches or any of the things Mr L'Amour did to im sure inspire his many novels and short stories hell he even acted watch the Sacketts

    I seen both lonesome dove 1 and return to lonesome love I still watch them when they are TV I think the acting was fantastic.

      There's also a 3rd one with James Garner playing Captain Call. It's okay. Definitely worth a watch. There's also the "TV" series with several episodes which is very good. Mostly about Newt's life with a different actor playing Newt. He does an admiral job...

    At 39 years old watching this movie a million times, I'm just now realizing that Caption Cole was different 😂 hell Claria her girls, half of the cast, I was 8, 9 watching this, they tricked me 😢😮😂😂

      This wasn't canon to the books. It was an attempt at cashing in on the success of the original adaptation.

      There's even more. Check out the next one, Streets of Laredo (1995). Same characters but some different actors, but it's all written by the same author. I haven't seen it yet myself but I'll be looking for it soon as I'm done with this.

      @@jimh6813 Great story of course, great actors, James Garner plays a good Capt. Call. To me , not as much heart/soul as orig LD(hard to beat the chemistry between Gus and Call-even comedic at times!), BUT, definitely worth the watch if you like westerns and LD in general.

    Tommy Lee Jones was a better Captain Call he had a stronger look to him . He was bigger . John Voit smaller and weaker doesn't stand out as much. His presence is not as commanding. Lou Gossit Jr. R.I. P.

      @@cw3365 Jon Voight was a horrible replacement. Looked small and weak regardless of his height and Tommy Lee was the better actor for this part. Hands down!

    I just can't get into this. There's too much wrong with it. Captain Call is a little bit too young and Claire in Nebraska is definitely too young. Now we have the fiddle music drowning out the dialogue. Can't understand what they're saying because of that and heavy accents.

    Not as good as the first movie but watchable. As far as Oliver Reed goes, I liked him better in (Treasure Island). Still probably the better actor in this script than John Voight.

      Not really, many were cowboys many buried on Boot Hill. Dodge City has a museum and shows women gunfighters, many things we would not expect of women those days. It is a tourist place that was built like Gun Smoke Dodge. Interesting place.
