I’ve always loved Ben Fogle as he exudes such natural, genuine warmth. He has a special gift with people. Also what he says about our education system is so true as there is far too much emphasis on academia and university when an apprenticeship could be more valuable. Also his thoughts on happiness are well acknowledged as being close to nature is the best therapy especially for sensitive people.

He is as real as one can get. He does not bullshit himself and others which is far more than most famous and not so famous people do. Down to earth and not delusional like most. A very normal personal who is not afraid of telling his truth. Great interview. Thank you.

Your podcasts are amazing.. But this one was honestly something else. Not just how Ben was so honest with us and himself about how hes reflected on his life and how it affected him, but the way you both conversated with each other about such important topics that need to spoken more about. The things that all humans are struggling with in this new time of life. Thank you for this

The bit that hit me really hard with this was the part where they talked about the education system. I am smart, every one of my teachers recognised how smart I was, however, the conventional system has never worked for me. I can do the works practically, not in theory. Exams, I don’t perform well in them at all, I’ve come out of every exam with much lower grades than my teachers thought I would, even after spending countless hours revising. All of my teachers were always saying oh, you could go on to study at Oxford or Cambridge. The difference being I’ve never wanted that. I don’t enjoy, or see myself progressing in full time education, doing theory work on paper all the time. So now, after a year out of education, I am about to start a new apprenticeship with a £1billion+ company. I can’t wait for this opportunity, I truly believe it will bring me out of my shell. It’s so heartwarming to know that such big role models like Ben and yourself Steven, actually also believe in a lesser known, less conventional way of progressing your life and career.

I was listening on the way to work and I have my driving test on Thursday, as I was walking to work I saw a number of learner drivers and started thinking about my test, doubting my ability etc; Then the piece about Ben saying he kept failing his driving test because he believed he was going to fail came up. I found this interview very interesting. I am that person who, until my mid 40's, lived his life one day at a time, with no worries of my tomorrow, just chasing the next adventure, basically the ultimate definition of freedom. I was truly free. At one point I woke up to the reality that with age, it wold not be possible or uncomfortable, to continue to live this life style. It took me another 10 years to turn my life around and settle into the reality and start up my own business with the aim of becoming financially independent. It's hard, it's tough, it's horrible and sometimes I hate myself however, what drives me forward, is the end game i.e. to go back to the ultimate, low key life of basic freedom.

Ben Fogle is the man I love the most who I never have got the chance to meet. I pray that I get that privilege to one day get the chance to shake his hand and thank him for what he has done for me.
I am far from perfect, I would even say I consider myself a failure when I look at my life. Sure I got a home but not one I take care of. I have a job that pays well but not one I love. One thing I have though is my travels and it was Ben who gave me the courage to try it even though I did it alone.
I'm 27 years old and I'm scared to see how age is getting the better of me, few are the days when I get home at dawn with a smile on my face. But I still dream of finding a path that makes me enjoy this amazing gift of life we have.
Anyhow, thanks Ben for everything you have done and keep doing. You inspire so many even tho you might miss it sometimes. Bless you!
(If I might dare to ask anyone for a helping hand, I would love to hear of ways to move away form sweden and try new thing. Dont need much more then a belly full of food and a place to rest)

We are basically all dealing with the same insecurities no matter how successful we appear to be. To build self confidence/belief a good way to help others is to build and track habits for their goals/potential. Ex. For the gym put your shoes on and get into the car (but don’t go) is a habit to track as the first steps towards working out. Goal: be better than the day or week before. Track over a year or two to prove your integrity to your own word; this builds self confidence. Do a habit around learning, physical/mental health, relationships, and financial. Over 1-2 years you will have changed your identity and will continue to grow

He is honest, open-minded and not influenced by society or current trends. This shows with every episode about those people that left the civilisation. Also thinking of Ben having influence or being involved in education or politics then it would be amazing to him try to bring in more outdoor or adventurous peruits available to children and particularly those who do not get opportunities to go out camping and wild living,That would be something great to see more kids get to do outdoor persuits.I really hope he finds his thing because we really need more people out there who have managed to achieve alot of their personal goals helping others who do not get so many chnaces

I have known that feeling of pressure to achieve, having gone to private schools but then left higher education with very little to show for it.
I'm sure an apprenticeship would have suited me better, and I agree with him that they should be pushed by schools and colleges. I then spent most of my 20's travelling and working low responsibility jobs. It wasn't until my early 30's that I eventually found a career path that gave me the right sort of challenge and now the salary to back it up, ultimately to build a life.

I found the part on anonymity interesting because a lot of people focus on the negatives of anonymity whereas there's the other side of it albeit a smaller percentage who will do good deeds because of anonymity. I personally much prefer to remain anonymous when I do good than be known and have everyone put me on a pedestal I don't feel I deserve to be on but it is a side to anonymity that I don't really hear people talk about and it seems to tie in with this idea that as humans we relate better over the negatives because we struggle to see someone else be happier than us.

You need to change how you see yourself first and then say fuck it to how others see you. You are your greatest gift and superpower and can be your own worst enemy.
      Goodluck on your journey!!💕

Ben is an inspiring, emotional and fascinating human. I'm not surprised he's so close to animals - he's an old soul. I loved him and I thought your interview with him was golden broadcasting. 🥰. His sensitivity and honesty are his superpowers, and like many dyslexics, he struggles with self-doubt. "Follow your own path" is the dyslexic mantra. It's not easy, but it's the only authentic choice you have.

I've followed Ben's career since those very early days on Castaway - he always came across as such a down to earth, genuinely humble (in the best sense of the term) and beautiful human being. This was such a great interview I've come back to it time and again to digest it a bit further

“Stop wanting. Start being.” “I didn’t want to be a sheep, I want to be a shepard.” So many gems were dropped. Amen to that🙌🏽
That self fulfilling prophecy is real ass shit. So many people look down on people for proclaiming emphatically that they’re going to be successful, but if you back that up with a willingness to learn and hard work the possibilities are endless. Postive reinforcement is majorrr key💯
Also... would love to see how you make the podcast 😇 @itsmymy_xo

The best 1.5 hours of my time! Wow. Thank you so much for your generous offerings. I listen to these almost everyday and my life is more enriched by each one!
Also, is it possible to interview the gentleman whom Ben was referring to when he talked about someone only bartering for his shelter, etc...for a year? I'm extremely interested in hearing his perspective on life. Thank you for the consideration.

From Belgium♥, i love the show Ben has! He has so 'grown' as a person as well, much respect for showing the wonderful brave choices of what some people do & decide, i so regret i never did that - i always wanted it - now my ilness stops it. And Ben brings it 'a bit' back sortoff that some DID it♥. I was very surprised to hear he had self doubt, loads of respect 😢 for your horrible lost.

you should never judge book by its cover this is what i did. When i first heard ben voice years ago i thought who is this posh git. I was young and immature so dont judge me :)
Then when i watched Ben and james race to north pole the difference in character between the two was fascinating to see. Ben very humble, empathetic, grounded and james was very hard wired, controlling, too disciplined. It made me see Ben in a different light posh or not what an incredble human and inspiration to watch. Ever since that show I followed and watched every single thing ben did tv shows, everest etc. Seeing him break down at the top of everest and his love for his kids its a true inspiration to me as a dad myself. Ben is legend
