    I've used my Stanley 10-049 Pocketknife mercilessly over the years in fire making videos to scrape ferro rods, make feathers, scrape fatwood, cut metal cans for Hobo Stoves and grease lamps, bore holes through branches and Bic lighters and leather, top board fire rolls, cut 3/4" saplings, etc. There are also many off camera uses that are just as amazing cleaning squirrel and fish, steak knife, peeler, cutting miles of cardboard and plastic pipe and copper wire, etc.
    I first started carrying this pocketknife 20 years ago because it was so flat and didn't make a big bulge in my back pocket. The knife and replacement blades were sold at ACE Hardware for $10 and $4 respectively. Nowadays, you have to buy them on Amazon $12 for the knife and about $20 for a 10 pack of blades.
    Ever since I showed that a utility knife blade could be used for the steel in the Flint And Steel technique (see LINK below), I've wanted to see if this little stainless steel blade would work also. We'll give it a try.
    I also show you how I like to sharpen the blade and the spine and how well the spine scrapes a ferro rod to ignite Pine Needles.
    Please follow the LINKS below and SUBSCRIBE. Than you!

    Man, David, a UA-cam video about a 50 cent flea market purchase . . . and I'm watching it and enjoying it! Only because it's you and you've amazed me so many times before with your knowledge of fire.

      I've heard that before. You won't wear that knife out. You'll lose it first. LOL! I've probably lost 4 or 5 in 20 years.

    The first time I saw one of your videos several years ago, you mentioned how much you liked that knife and I noticed that you used it in all your videos I saw after that. Working as a carpenter for the last 50 years, I have used various Stanley bladed products pretty much daily throughout my career, but I had never seen that model. Wanting to check it out, I ordered one from Amazon for $14 and change if I remember correctly. After playing with it for about a week I figured I better buy another for backup, as I would surely wear it out because of how much I was using it every day. So I go back to Amazon and BINGO!!, they're on sale for $9. I bought 6 more. Now I keep one in my truck, car, backpack, first aid kit, fire kit, and that leaves one set aside just in case. The original is still going strong after almost 2 yrs of daily use. Just a great little knife, and thank you David for bringing it to my attention and for all the great videos. I'll....see ya on the next one! 😁

    I bought it for woodworking, but it's so handy that I carry it all the time. It's sharp and feather-light, and it locks securely. And you can sharpen the blade or just replace it.

    Hi David. Always love your videos! A pleasure to watch. Does yours have blade play side to side? Mine does.

    • @DavidWestBgood2ppl
      @DavidWestBgood2ppl  Рік тому

      Yes, brand new they have that looseness and many times a gap between the scales. Heavy use will make both more pronounced, but the knife just keeps on safely working. When you talk about fit and finish, the powder coat finish is excellent while the fit is not really all that.

    Hi David ☺, that little knife is amazing , thanks for letting us see inside how the blades set up, question, is there space for a spare blade like the regular utility knives?, I admire your concentration using that blade to strike a spark, it had me cringing, interesting as it was I'll not atemp that,lol. Thanks for the video, it's always interesting, stay safe mate, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart.uk.
