I was with NATO and had Turkish askeri assigned to me--Excellent soldiers and my boss-Turkish major- was fine also. Fanatics will never cross their borders and at the ordu Levi -officers club-they do drink alcohol. Probably one of our best allies! I have a canik c-10O compact cz 75 clone with 600 rounds through it and no failures. Build quality is probably every bit as good as the Czeck pistol if not better. World class NATO approved pistols from a great country.
The oldest recorded Turkish firearm goes back to 1421, that's 71 years before Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas. Something tells me, they know how to make guns.
Great video. Note that Canik TP9SF is selected for Turkish Special Forces.Samsun Yurt Sanayi is producing 20,000 TP9SF at present. It passed all difficult tests and eliminated other Turkish pistol makers (Sarsilmaz, Tisas and Girsan). On trials, 50,000 bullets are fired by all candidate pistols.
I recently bought a TP9SA. I never saw one until the one I ordered came in at my LGS. I will say it is everything that you said it is. Thanks for what I perceive to be an honest review. It was your review as well as a few others that convinced me to take a chance on this pistol. I'm glad I did.
I have the 1st Gen TP-9 in OD Green. Mine has worked flawlessly! The 1st 25 rounds or so had some miss feeds but after tat no problems. I love the gun and for the price it cant be beat! I wasn't crazy about the holster. I use a shoulder holster. I would recommend the pistol 100%
I bought it for my dad as a birthday present. He loves it and chooses it on top of his glocks, the gun has over 4000 rounds and you can see the wear and tear from all the sliding action when fired after those thousands of bullets. You can outshoot just about any other pistol at the range there and with a shooter mode trying different pistols I get a nice circle around the bullseye.
My son and I put 350 rounds thru mine last night with no problems other than it's shooting low. I'll adjust the rear sights.....Great pistol for the money. Thanks for the review.
I don't know why people are bitching about the decocker. If you don't want it, don't use it. Just like a forward assist. I have yet to use my forward assist but it doesn't "kill the AR design".
A forward assist, if employed "accidentally", would not render your AR inoperable. This decocker, if employed "accidentally", regardless of how remote the possibility (NO ONE has any statistics yet because it's a new product) renders the pistol inoperable unless the slide is racked again. That's an added moments hesitation for you. Who needs vestigial components on a dangerous tool?
Sigelitedark Despite the fact that your comment reads like a pissed off elementary school teacher, you're correct. I didn't recently realize that the trigger was SAO. I see now how that could be a major problem.
LOL, didn't mean to sound pissed off, but the problem of this particular design is elementary. The 55 with its double-(safe)action makes decocker feasible.
That decocker is way up on the top of the slide, and not down in the way like a Beretta finger flipper safety, plus you need to really push down on it, so it's a non-issue to me, and these are selling at a home based FFL for $324, or $350 out the door, after tax. The Glock is $200 more, and to me the only thing (maybe) worth $200 more for Glock is Glock parts availability, and that can be spotty sometimes. I had some Glock 19 Gen 3s sit for over a week waiting for Glock to get in new recoil springs.
Hey Sootch, I was looking for a quality weapon to carry for my job, and I was considering a Glock,, but thanks to you I think I decided on the weapon I will buy. This gun looks a lot better (as far as specs) than a Glock.
I saw the full length presentation of one of the Samsun Yurt Savunma Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. company spokesmen at James Yeager's channel and I have to say I'm impressed and I'm even more impressed by the price they can put them out for. I can't buy myself those guns but it's still interesting to see Turkish guns on the rise and all the Naysayers talking shit about the Canik TP9 it's a toy gun manufactered in a toy facility and it's the same shit as the UTS 15 shotgun and ISO 9000 isn't worth crap yaadadada blablabla. With this gun the Turkish manufacturer will slap Glock, S&W and Springfield. Great review sootch! The 50,000 shots are only an indicator for the under 5inch accuracy at I believe 25 meter. The pistol will hold a lot longer but with less accuracy.
Time will tell. If all gun nuts in the US want high quality products then Hi-Points wouldn't be so popular. The Canik TP9 pistols are even better and at this price may/will get even more popular. Let time decide.
You are the best on reviewing guns on details and how good they are thank you for your commitment to our safety and to make better decision on buying a hand gun
I've seen a lot of good reviews of the Canik pistols. Not a big fan of the loaded chamber indicators in general but this one I think I could live with.
I love your video. Great job showcasing, and reviewing this pistol. I like all the camera angels, and showing yourself drawing the pistol from the holster. You speak clear, and provided me with more information than anyone else that did a review on this pistol. Very awesome video, and what a great gun. Keep up the good work. I just put an order in for one of these beauties. After watching several videos, and reading countless reviews, I decided it was well worth the money, and i had to have it. I can't wait.
Just paid for mine today. This Pistol instantly caught my eye and when i help it it felt really good. Unfortunately o have to wait 5 days to get it. I wish i could have brought it home same day so i could familiarize myself with it and how it works. Its gonna be a long 5 days..
Picked mine up today, and I can't believe it cost $375 out the door. Handled it next to an H&K VP9, and the Canik trigger is so much better it's not even funny. The decocker could, IMHO, accidentally be engaged. However, after stripping the slide, I saw that it will only take about 5 minutes worth of work to correct the problem. Thanks again for the review, Sootch!
Sootch00--I'm looking at this one real hard! I can get it in black for $309.99, with free shipping! I had promised the wife only two pistols for this year. Oops, I already have my two for 2015. Since she is an active shooter, I think she will understand that this is quite a deal for all that you get. I recently concluded after more years than I care to remember, that I am a gun addict. It all started in the Marine Corps, and when I got up to Camp Geiger (Camp LeJeune), in North Carolina. We got to shoot, semi, and full auto weapons. What a rush! I realized my addiction when a fellow told me regarding his gun collection, "I have more than I need, but not as many as I want." As usual, a great, informative review!
I have this gun and it's great that it's not that known and not everywhere but when you show it or let someone fire it they are hooked.. decocker is good not a big deal.. if activated pull back a 1/4 inch and it resets the pin.. I'm in a course with guys that all have glocks and they love my pistol... can't wait to get another series of The Canik line..
I read in a forum that the +2 base plate from the Beretta M9 works on these mags so coupling a TP-9 mag with an M9 +2 base plate gets you a 20 round mag. Good way to eliminate keeping a second mag handy in a truck or car or even hiking.
If you'll notice (15:57) the holster is not at fault outside it's design. Sootch released the button before pulling on the pistol. Again this is the problem with these style holsters. Don't use them for self defense, they can get you killed.
It really seems like a high quality pistol! I almost purchased a PPQ and just held to make sure of what I really wanted. I have watched your review and few others, it seems to be as good a pistol as ones twice it price!! Thanks for a very informative and helpful video! All the very best to you!
Thank you for an excellent review and comparison. I recently bought the tan SA and am pleased with it. I found, as you did, that the paddle is flimsy and comes off my pants/belt, due to the tiny belt 'hooks' and the internal one on the paddle. I have a Blackhawk Serpa for my Glock 19, wear it daily, and it is solid in every way, so I decided to remedy the Canik paddle. I thoughof heating the plastic and shaping the tiny hooks to protrude more, but an easier solution came to me. I drilled two holes in the paddle's center, between the groups of cant holes, just over 1.5" from the top (for my belt width) and screwed in round-head machine screws so they protrude about as much as the ones on the Serpa. I then drilled another hole right in the middle of the 'hook' that should catch inside your pants (but doesn't) and put in another screw. Now the holster stays put when I draw.
I'm glad that you compared this to the original TP9 and the PPQ. TheFireArmGuy just released a review of the Magnum Research MR9 Eagle yesterday, which is another pistol built along this same design as the P99 and they partnered up with Walther. I wish we could see the TP9 compared straight up against the MR9 Eagle. -- Great video Sootch.
Love your review man. You seem give good confident information, and a very thorough review of it. Also love the fact that you include bloopers at the end for some sense of humor.
Also, unless you're a hitman who needs to get out of there in a hurry always take your time re-holstering. Hold your garment(s) well clear and look at the holster. Regardless yet another great video, keep 'em coming.
If I am remembering correctly, the magazines will accept m9 base plates. It wasn't that the pistol will accept m9 mags but the mags will take m9 base plates. Hope this helps and good review.
Six years later, and Canik grew bigger and better. All Canik pistol models are superb modern combat handguns. Anyone who says otherwise, either haven't even fired it (Turkey makes some people go "🦃" 😁) or Glock die-hard fans flat out rejecting anything that's not Glock. Actually, Canik has it right: they are SUPERIOR HANDGUNS.
Just to inform everyone on what he says about the holster that comes with the canik that the paddle isn’t that great, I’m going to agree the paddle is wobbly but for those who own the Springfield xd or xdm firearm the actual holster that comes with in the case works just fine it actually fits it like it was meant for it. The 9mm xd, the 45 xdm paddle holster, the mod 2 in 9mm and 45 works perfectly for it. Just a heads up on that information I thought it would be useful for some...
Awesome, looks like they have a home run there. Everything the original should have been glad i waited on getting one, gonna be on my Christmas list now.
Still would prefer a safety, as a opposed to racking the slide to ready for fire. But It seems this is a high quality pistol. If Canik does bring A FACTORY, (they would never bring the whole company), I hope they consider some states have mag capacity restrictions. Which means the ability to buy the pistol! Some of us consider the law to be more important than our personal opinion, A great trigger enables one to have the confidence to do what one needs to, And thats put the bullet where you want to. Nice review Sootch, yours is the benchmark for me!
Sootch00 with all the due respect, these tp9sa models are being reported to have fired when dropped on many occassions.Buyers should be aware .i really like the handgun i only wish it was designed more safely. Hanks and keep em videos coming.
Excellent review , well done sir!! Great comparison to some arms we all know very well, giving us a mental image we can all picture very well without having to actually hold it...Thanks for the thoughtful insight...
Hey sootch, can you see if a Beretta PX4 Storm magazine will work in the new TP-9 SA? The Beretta 92 and the PX4 Storm are both MecGar made mags, with nearly identical profiles except the PX4 Storm magazines have their notch cut higher on the magazine, which looks like it might align with the TP-9 SA's notch. I'd be very interested in knowing as a resident of Connecticut, where my old standard capacity 10+ round magazines are grandfathered in by law, but I cannot obtain new standard capacity magazines (legally). I have plenty of PX4 Storm 10+ round magazines, so this would be a huge boon. Thanks for the quality review, and keep up the good work!
Enjoyed the review. My first TP-9 was a dangerous hang-firing POS. Even worse was Century's warranty service, false promises of a return call, bold face lies and their denial it was one of theirs even though slide was clearly stamped CAI. Thanks to Bill at Centertfire Systems for his aid in dealing with Century and getting me a TP-9 I could safely handle without fear of a hang-fire. I'm assuming with the change in the trigger design. I was likely not the only one experiencing hang-fires. I can not help being very fond of my second TP-9. I would love to get the newer model but I simply refuse to line Century's pocket. If another importer distributes the SA model. I'll definitely seriously consider buying one.
I've had some reservations with my TP9 after first 4 mags. FTF, FTE, gritty. I was going to return it. Let it sit dirty for a few days, shot it again - 1 stove pipe with 5 mags O.o I expected better precision in manufacturing with ISO9000 and all. Shouldn't take this many rounds to break in.
Loving my TP-9SA so far. FYI, my G-Code XST holster for my Glock G21 works perfectly. I have a generic Kydex G21 holster that also works; the fit isn't perfect, but it doesn't move around and the retention works.
If you like military-style pistols, you should check out Arcus. It's a Bulgarian military and police pistol. It's also imported by Century. I bought the 98DAC (compact) version a few months ago. It's largely based on the Browning Hi Power design, with a few improvements. Mags are cheap and the thing is built like a tank.
Jesus, you're recoil control is ridiculous, when I grow up i want to to be just like you :P Im a relative newb only putting 200 rounds through my tp9sa; first 100 rounds had one failure to eject, second 100 rounds had one hang fire that fired on second trigger pull. Hoping to put a good 1000 rounds with this gun but way its been chugging along not gonna be a problem. Love your vids, even as a political moderate. Keep on keepin' on!
The TP9 SA is a PPQ 5 inch model... I have a 5 inch barreled PPQ And have an SA... the trigger mechanism on the SA is identical to the PPQ, so much so, that I swapped out the SA slide for the PPQ and it fits the PPQ... And it functions perfectly! Everything works. The PPQ slide almost fits the Canik frame, the rear rails on the canik are just a touch to wide. None of this information means anything! I just found it very interesting that you basically are getting a PPQ -ish type pistol for around 400 dollars... Oh, and the Canik SA mags, they function in the PPQ, but not the other way around, as the standard PPQ M2 type mags are just a little to short, due to the 15 round capacity. Just some info for you all.
***** will you every do a head to head comparison of the TP9 SA and the H&K VP9? I would love to see that being I think there the same in looks and possible price value!
Just spoke to the RCMP firearms officer in Canada and they're adding this to the permissible restricted firearms list. For anyone in Canada, just call the RCMP firearms officer and acquire a transfer order and make sure you contact the seller in the US
Great video! A little longer than I usually sit through, but not boring at all. I have the original TP9 in titanium. It was my carry weapon for several months, and it did great at the range. I wasn't sure I wanted to buy my second Canik in the SA model, but now I am. Thanks for the video. I now carry a Ruger LC9s, but I am considering a Sccy CPX-2. Maybe you could check that one out. It's seems like a pretty good carry weapon, at a VERY reasonable price.
TheYankeeMarshal , this is alot of gun for the money but I agree. There should be a DA/SA option for this gun. That is what makes the sig, Beretta and others attractive. Hammer fired da/sa is the way to go for sure. Particularly the px4 storm.
TheYankeeMarshal Richard Mogel The CZ P09 has the safety/decocker (you can change from one to the other) but retains DA. IMO get a CZ clone from CZ.. The P09 can be had below the $530 retail.
I have bought a Canik TP9SA.
It is a wonderful gun
Great trigger and accurate as can be.
Thanks for your review - it's why I bought one.

Still running it in 2020, still accurate and still a joy to shoot! Highly recommend! It’s worn looking but everything is still crisp and solid.
The oldest recorded Turkish firearm goes back to 1421, that's 71 years before Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas. Something tells me, they know how to make guns.
Bravo
Columbus ain't discovered the America! Indigenous people been there!
Think its for a good reason the Turkish army is now blessed with MPT76 :) outstanding machine

Very happy with this choice.

I have the 1st Gen TP-9 in OD Green. Mine has worked flawlessly! The 1st 25 rounds or so had some miss feeds but after tat no problems. I love the gun and for the price it cant be beat! I wasn't crazy about the holster. I use a shoulder holster. I would recommend the pistol 100%
that's a hell of a gun for that price
I bought it for my dad as a birthday present. Good review. I have three Canik pistols and they never let me down and the price is always right.
Agreed. I'm not going to use it so it's no big deal.
A forward assist, if employed "accidentally", would not render your AR inoperable. This decocker, if employed "accidentally", regardless of how remote the possibility (NO ONE has any statistics yet because it's a new product) renders the pistol inoperable unless the slide is racked again. Great video! I really want one. The grip looks like Springfield XD mated with a Walther P99 and we now have the Canik grip. Really dig the new sights.
Thank you for an excellent review and comparison. I recently bought the tan SA and am pleased with it. Awesome, looks like they have a home run there. Everything the original should have been glad i waited on getting one, gonna be on my Christmas list now.
Great gun throw the holster away and you have a great package.
Thanks for another great review. Please keep it up. Your videos are always informative
That video length...
coincidence? I think not...
Apparently there is a V2 and a SF variant.
V2 variant is DA/SA with a longer barrel and SF eliminates the decocker, retaining the Single Action Only.
Sootch00 with all the due respect, these tp9sa models are being reported to have fired when dropped on many occassions.Buyers should be aware .i really like the handgun i only wish it was designed more safely. Hanks and keep em videos coming.
+TheShocktrauma Please post the url of some of these "reports".
+Jeff Williams he's got ShockTrauma and it's talking nonsense.
Sootch... love the bloopers at the end! Keep 'em coming!
Excellent review , well done sir!! Great comparison to some arms we all know very well, giving us a mental image we can all picture very well without having to actually hold it...Thanks for the thoughtful insight...
Just got one yesterday, and went to the range and fired 300 rounds, today.
As usual another great positive review on a really nice pistol! Love my Glock 38, HK vp9 and soon the TP9 sa.
I bought one, $299 cost, $30 shipping, $25 FFL. Basically $350 total cost. Oct/20/2015. Mine is the "desert tan" version.
Shouldn't take this many rounds to break in.
gophop Hey, thanks for your comment! Just to clarify, was this the TP9 first gen? I'm considering the TP9SA is why I ask.
Hitler's Cow
1st gen.
Hitler's Cow Mine is the first generation TP-9
I have the original TP9 and love it! Hope they will still make the original. The TP9SA is also a nice option. Great Review!
I only hear good things about the TP9 pistols, I have a Canik CZ-75 clone and it is a excellent gun.
The best use of the decocker is using it during "take down" as you do not have to pull the trigger. Just a thought.
Loving my TP-9SA so far. FYI, my G-Code XST holster for my Glock G21 works perfectly. I have a generic Kydex G21 holster that also works; the fit isn't perfect, but it doesn't move around and the retention works.
Excellent pistol, especially for the price. One of my favorites
Love the review, by the way.
You sold me on it! I'm going to buy one if they're available at the Monroeville gun show in January!
Great review as always
Nice review, well done. Great gun for a low cost-take notice folks before prices go up.
Hey sootch00, you've got some great vids. I really enjoy the professionalism. Good work!
Its a fine weapon. Love it more than my G19
I can tell you many people at the gun shop i go rave about it. I love the grip and a trigger.
***** will you every do a head to head comparison of the TP9 SA and the H&K VP9? I would love to see that being I think there the same in looks and possible price value!
Great gun for a reasonable price!
Picked up one last weekend. Love it!
If a decocker makes a gun unable to be fired without moving the slide I do NOT want it. I want a DA option if there is a decocker.
TheYankeeMarshal , this is alot of gun for the money but I agree. There should be a DA/SA option for this gun. That is what makes the sig, Beretta and others attractive. Hammer fired da/sa is the way to go for sure. Particularly the px4 storm.
TheYankeeMarshal Richard Mogel
The CZ P09 has the safety/decocker (you can change from one to the other) but retains DA. IMO get a CZ clone from CZ.. The P09 can be had below the $530 retail.
Peter Spinale that is another pistol on my radar love the cz
Richard Mogel not crazy about the massive trigger guard, but I suspect it's mil spec.
Peter Spinale yeah I agree but it is probably mil spec or someone's brainstorming thinking it would be better
Loved the "junk drawer" comment about the supplied lock! ;-)
