I watched this the other day, but it has been on my mind for years. I remember one day my family rented Ponyo from Blockbuster and before that films played there were two previews for other Ghibli films. One was a general Ghibli DVD trailer for films like Kiki, Totoro, Castle In The Sky, and Ponyo. And the other one was specifically for Arrietty. I finally saw it and I liked it. Can't call it a favorite because that's a pretty high bar. But for the most part it's very enjoyable. I love the backgrounds and scenery so much. The animation is gorgeous.

I agree 100% with you on the backgrounds. They were very detailed and colorful. I feel Hiromasa Yonebayashi's direction has the right charm to keep Studio Ghibli going after its founders were gone. It's sad that he moved on to another studio.

Aw, that is awfully nice of you to say Vue Xiong! I am glad that you enjoyed the video! To be fair, my channel is still young and I don't post as much as I would like. But I am thankful that people like you make the work I do worthwhile!

I remember when my father took me to see this film when it first released in he US, and I wasn’t too interested. But I loved it as soon as it was over, easily one of my favorite Ghibli films all time

I worked at a movie theater when this movie first came out in the States and, as far as I can remember, it was the only Ghibli Movie that my theater ever received during my time there. No 'Ponyo', 'Wind Rises', 'When Marney was There', or 'Princess Kaguya', etc. Just this one! I don't know why I never went to see it then because now I'm kicking myself.

This is my favorite Ghibli film. I totally understand why it wouldn’t be other’s though, it’s more calm and simple. I like that though, it’s less chaotic and I find myself keep wanting to rewatch it

moral lesson of the story? for me, don't hurt or take advantage of people that is weaker than you.. everyone has their own struggles in life.. even sho has sickness 😢

Good movie but I just kept thinking why we needed a villain type character in the movie. Just felt SO unnecessary lmao

My favorite Ghibli movie by far, tho I am a bit disappointed by the American dub. The renaming of the human characters, as well as the shitty narration at the and saying "oh actually everything ended up fine". It's just bad. Watch the British dub or the Sub. I recommend the sub but the British version is also good. Just don't watch the American version as your first experience.

For some reason every time Sho came on screen it gave me Johnathan Joestar vibes. He's just a goody two shoes with no real personality. Still likeable tho.
Also, I have to say this: the scene where Arrietty tells Sho that her mother was taken and starts crying is so weird. Like, she's crying about how a human TOOK her mother, and Sho just reaches out to tell her to get on his hand. He's telling her to basically do what happened to her mother before she disappeared. And with his "cute innocent" face it genuenly looks like a "Top 10 Anime Betrayals" moment. I laughed so fucking much when that frame appeared on screen like holy shit that was badly done.
