This was the first and possibly only Miyazaki film I ever saw on the big screen, and It wasn't that easy looking for a theater that showed it either (from where I live) but I'm glad that my GF and I got to experience Miyazaki's magic on the big screen at least once.
I recently bought this movie while i was staying at my dad's place. I watched it once i got home and I cried my eyes out at the end. Why? Get it and you'll see for yourself.
Story: 9/10 Animation: 10/10 Characters: 9-10/10 Score: 10/10 The film itself: 9-10/10 (I think either Ernest and Celestine or The Wind Rises deserves the Oscar.)
Full Voice Actor List Zach Callison: Jiro as a Child - Joseph Gordon-Levitt: Jiro as an Adult - John Krasinski: Kiro Honjo - Madeline Rose Yen: Nahoko as a Child - Emily Blunt: Nahoko as an Adult - Martin Short: Kurokawa - William H Macy: Satomi - Werner Herzog: Castorp - Stanley Tucci: Giovanni Battista Caproni - Eva Bella: Kayo as a Child - Mae Whitman: Kayo as an Adult - Edie Mirman: Jiro's Mother - Jennifer Grey: Kurokawa's Wife
Have you seen Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky? Some of the aircraft designs are amazing in that. Especially the airship, Tiger Moth and the Flaptors.
@@mustakim7876 Don't. I watched it... but never again. It was so sad and depressing. No wonder they showed My Neighbour Totoro afterwards in the cinemas, as they didn't want their customers to leave crying.
I absolutely love this movie. It's beautiful and has a wonderful Story. And the English dub is not terrible, it's actually good but some people are spoiled with Excellent dubs.
The best way I can describe the Wind Rises is that it wants to be a children's project, but it is stuck being too adult. It's trying to appeal to kids with romance and the dream sequences, but because it stars artistic planes being used for destruction, coupled in with the possibility that one of the star characters could die, this is just too sad to bear. There is one source of relief though; at first I was scared that Jiro's boss Kuroka was going to be a mean person, but from what I see in the movie, he is interested in his employees' own good. He was actually nicer than I thought, and that allowed for some comfort. I am not going to call this as bad as most adult animation projects, and I say it's Hayao Miyazaki's choice if he wants to retire, but I cannot see myself watching this movie again anytime soon.

This movie soared while Disney’s Planes crashed and burned.

I expected him to be simply strict.
