  • Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) denied that the Florida curriculum standards portray slaves as having “benefit[ted]” from the institution of slavery in an exclusive interview with NBC News Correspondent Dasha Burns. “If this was a different state and the governor wasn’t running for president, no one would have said anything about that,” DeSantis said.

Yes, I'm sure it was a real comfort to the American slaves knowing that they learned farming and metal-work skills while being whipped by the overseer and their children being carted off to god knows where. Slavery only had benefits to the people who ran plantations and those who earned a living catching, torturing, bred slaves, and sending cheap clothing for slaves to wear. The economic benefits of this mass suffering was also concentrated in 33% of the population that owned slaves which is why southerners called it a rich man's war and a poor man's fight.@@andreasesser4641

I have asked many times if anyone actually has a textbook, teachers written notes or a recording of a Florida History teacher teaching something that you are opposed to. I have read the entire standard and it is to vague in itself for me to say I would disagree with anything. Keep in mind History is a subject that will always have controversy. I am very involved with my sons education and actually read all of his teachers notes and look at every test he has taken as well. I have come across a few things that were not exactly right or were poorly worded but it has not been anything I would call extreme or very biased.
Also in Texas all children have to take Texas History on 4th and 7th grade in addition to the American and World History classes. Does Florida have its own state history requirements? Considering there is only so much that can be taugh in a single US History class perhaps its own state history ckass would be able to dive into more detail about the history of Florida.
