How Ron DeSantis Let Billionaires Destroy Florida
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 сер 2023
- Florida Governor and U.S. presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has raked in millions of dollars-and even a golf simulator-from wealthy corporate interests. At the same time, he’s stripped protections from renters, let insurance & utility companies hike rates, and cut taxes on the wealthy. Jason Garcia exposes his real record.

I don't know, if the peoples interests are to reduce crime and homelessness in Florida, then they've succeeded pretty well. Much safer than California.
Not to mention the fact that the housing prices and overall cost of living is worse in many other Democrat states.
@skoop651 The issue here is that you think of it as I'm a Democrate lover, criticizing a Republican, judging by your comment about Democrate states having worse housing inflation than republican states. As if trying to demonstrate that Republicans are better. First, Florida has 2 spots in the top 10 cities with the highest real estate inflation, including Tampa being the highest of the US. Second, the majority of the voters are eating in the palm of politicians of both majority parties (Democrates and Republicans) making people hate on each other, while their candidates only worry about their immediate interest, and how to make it look good on the surface in the short term, regardless of what consequences it could have in the long term. Both party representatives practice insider trading every breakfast with absolutely no consequences at all, while giving speeches to people tailored by marketing strategists. Dems or Reps or whatever party... doesn't matter. If you are fully supporting one side, you are just gullible to one side rather than the other. Every politician we have currently are not looking out for the people, or else we wouldn't have such a constant decline in spending power since the 70s, and the masses seem not even capable to address the real reasons. Too busy being divided and fed with fear.
We are all living in this country the same, we all just want to work, have a purpose, a family, make money, and enjoy life. That's it.

My message to those who wish to move here is to think twice about the costs of living and the fact that home insurance is very difficult to find IF you can afford one of his million dollar slums.
Spot on! I’m in FL, and some of the things these big corporations get away with is mind blowing! The worst thing happening now is housing. That includes buyers, owners, and renters. The so-called “affordable housing” that’s being pushed so hard here is not affordable at all because the management companies are able to get away with raising rent as much and as often as they want to. The rent versus income ratio is minimum 60%. I can’t stand this man. Anyone who votes for him should not be allowed to vote ever again because of a lack of common sense.
It's the same in any blue state.....

@@AbbySTWrites I thought the church couldn't pay the victims of child sex abuse becuase they were broke?
It was "All of a sudden" a big deal because that's when it was exposed. Prior to the pandemic people had no clue what teachers were exposing their children to. Once lockdowns started happening and classes were over zoom, parents were able to sit to the side and hear first hand the grooming that was occurring.
Prior to people getting to witness it first hand, the MSM simply lied and said it didn't happen. The lockdowns provided parents with the evidence that they needed, and groups started pushing politicians to act. DeSantis was one of the few non-groomer politicians so he was happy to pass common sense legislation which simply says that there is an age where these things are appropriate to discuss, and that teachers aren't allowed to broach the topic prior.
Not political theater at all. The issue of groomers in this country is one which is far from being resolved.

Fast-forward to 2021, going into 2022, and things were already getting ugly. And, sure, you can partially blame COVID-19 repercussions, but it was noticeably worse in FL. Gas prices, once lower than NJ, were now the same or more expensive. The same properties that were once $1,300 to $1,600 were now $2,000+. Even the place we rented 2-3 years prior was now $2,250. I live in Florida and there's still plenty of people here that are proud of voting Republican. They see this as a issue with the current governor and not with their political party. I think my state will just continue to shit the bed in the future. Also gotta love how a bill was recently passed that enables Desantis to run for presidency and still uphold office as governor.
What are the metrics for "most overpriced housing" ?? None of those places in that top 10 are even in the most expensive places list. Using something like that seems dishonest
Liked and subscribed today. Nice to hear young people shining light into the window of politics. It would be nice to hear how some of your contributors feel about President Biden. My son is gen z, he seems to be warming to Biden due to his stance on student debt (he's a senior in college) and labor unions. I'm a boomer who thinks Biden's doing a good job.

It's amazing how many people in Florida vote against their own best interests.
Most people vote with their heart, not with their head.
By appealing to the issues that voters “care” about, you get the (sl)easy votes.
The mistake in opposing DeS in the governor’s race in 2022 was Crist focused on the issues like “woke” and “don’t say gay” rather than all of the things mentioned in this video. And all DeS had to do to convince the immigrant community was call democrats socialists (because Cuba and Venezuela are shining examples of Democratic socialism).
That's the way of this country.
I've wondered that about places like California for years. The cities keep getting worse and worse yet people keep voting for the same lefties pushing the same lefty policies. Makes no sense.
Bruh. That’s entirety of US.
Propaganda is a powerful tool, and no one is immune to it.
i live in tallahassee, when i was younger (maybe 5th or 4th grade?) they took us on a field trip to the governors mansion, it was absolutely absurd the amount of luxuries in there, politicians are supposed to work for the people, not their own financial benefit
rent increased by 45% so a 1/1 apartment went from $700-$950 to $1400 minimum. my monthly energy bill went from around $85 a month to $165 a month…
location: Tampa, FL
so essentially, enriching and handing even more leverage to corporations, landlords.
At this point some politicians aren't even trying to hide the corruption. They're just like, ya, it's happening, so what'cha gonna do?
It’s also helped small businesses not just large corporations but as a Floridian I’m still not very happy with the recent price hike on everything. Property tax included
Florida pretty much became blade runner with sunshine
My husband and I spent a month in Florida in February and we were shocked by how expensive everything was compared to 3 years ago
Florida will lose the Canadian Snowbirds for sure. That will really hurt the Florida economy. Florida is on track to being like a 3rd world country. VOTE BLUE!!

I had originally voted for desantis because I thought what he did during the pandemic was very beneficial to the average person, but everything else has been abysmal the more I’ve looked into him. I’m truly ashamed of my vote, taught me to educate myself even more.
As a Floridian, I feel trapped. So many people work hard but don’t make enough to barely scrape by. I’ve been told to stop complaining or move. I’m lucky enough my partner and I own our home because if we had to pay rent compared to a mortgage we would probably be homeless due to the exorbitant cost of living. Several of my friends have lost their homes and apartments due to energy price spikes, hurricane insurance (which is mandatory) price hikes, food prices, fuel to drive 30 min and sit 30 min in traffic. It’s getting really bad. We went from what would be considered upper lower class, on our way to building a true foundation to live, to now having to dip out of savings frequently to patch emergency expenses like pet bills.
my partner and i are in a similar position. we are doing what we can to move as soon as possible, but it's ridiculous to assume everyone has the ability to just uproot their lives and leave
Come to Ohio! Shit govt too but affordable living and seasons
Then sell the house and MOVE. Boohoo you have to pay pet bills lmao 🤣
Inflation is caused by the he government overspending
Sad that “upper lower class” is a thing. All I’ve ever known is low class.
I am stuck here due to my work (eventually I will be free), it's hellish. Yet any effort to help people, or at least stop it from getting worse, is fought by people that have flooded into our state in recent years. They came to the state "where woke goes to die" and are turning it into a living hell at their own expense.
Do they really think cisgender supremacy is worth getting all their personal and family-wide resources drained out?
The retirees are a cancer on the state of Florida.
I think 2023-2024 is the year when that really comes home to roost and these people realize what they've helped do to this state. Will that be DeSantis' downfall? I don't know. I don't think so, particularly. But it might.
@@Reilly-Maresca I think us Floridians have already figured it out, it's the people that moved here /because/ of desantis/trump that are going to keep this trainwreck going
I live in Florida and own a house here. My taxes haven't gone up. We don't even pay state taxes. Sales tax and property taxes haven't increased significantly. I think sales tax is like 6%, combined with county sales tax, it's like 7.5%. I'm Green party, and even I think Desantis hasn't been as bad as the media lets on for the economy here.
I'm sure there's a lot to consider with the crazy influx of new residents regarding our economy, and his deals with landlords. I'm less mad at DeSantis and moreso at all the folks who fled their collapsing states and effectively doomed ours. Only my house remains among what I once called home. No forests, no swamps, no stars, no palm trees. Only concrete, apartments, and housing developments. These folks should've stayed home addressed their own problems.
At risk of being a hypocrite, I, a second generation Floridian, am leaving this nightmare metropolis for either the far reaches of the panhandle, or the mountains.
Nobody blames the New Yorkers coming here buying house with cash
I've lived in Florida for 20 years and pretty much since covid things have gotten steadly worse. Housing is crazy expensive. Energy prices are crazy high. Kept my car registered in Alabama at my parents' and when I moved it across the state line the insurence cost doubled and the coverage halfed. The so-called party of "personel freedom" and "medical choice" has made it so that it is nearly impossible for me to get my meds. Because I'm trans I risk getting arrested for using the bathroom. At this point I'm weighing on moving somewhere else because how bad it has gotten here.
Pass it on! Vote desatan out!
I am Cuban American living in Florida for 52 years, Florida has never been better. We came to America for liberty and worked hard to achieve the American dream. Trump or Desantis 2024.
That's ridiculous! The insurance companies get to benefit from state-owned reinsurance, but the taxpayers who fund it aren't allowed to access state-owned insurance.
Nah he saved us from vaccine mandates let’s not forget that… while people were losing their jobs over a mandate in states like New York California etc etc people in Florida were saved from a totalitarian policy.. I really think all you people are bots paid by off by pharma
We've lived in Florida for almost 60 years and can tell you that DeSantis is the worst governor during that time. That's quite an accomplishment considering the last guy (Rick Scott) was an unindicted criminal.
Two of the issues discussed in this video have had an impact on our life. One of them major.
The insurance crisis has caused us to no longer be able to afford our windstorm insurance. In Florida, there are three types of home insurance you usually need. The first is standard home owners. Sometime, your home owners will include windstorm (hurricane) coverage, but for many, it requires a separate policy. For us, windstorm has increased at such a rate that we are no longer able to afford it. So now, we only have basic home owners and flood insurance. We have no protection in case of hurricane.
The second issue is power. We invested in solar power several years ago to control our power costs. A bidirectional meter was installed, and we were compensated for all power our panels delivered to the grid. We were charged a minimum charge daily to cover the cost of grid maintenance. But that changed. The power companies are now allowed to charge two minimum charges, one daily and one monthly. This monthly minimum charge only affect people with solar systems, the amount is higher than the accumulated daily minimum. During sunny months, our panels produce more than we used, so the excess power was banked and used the next month. With the monthly minimum charge, we no longer get credit for some of the banked power. Our bill is just raised to the minimum even though our actual bill is less. In effect, the power company is now allowed to take our excess power.
I'm disappointed the the legislature changed another law, the law that required the governor to resign to run for another office. If Florida law had been followed as it was originally intended, DeSantis would no longer be our governor.
How much did those companies donate to his campaigns ?
Why do you still live in Florida? I hope you are on the Atlantic Ocean side. Good luck.

@@jamess1314 I was priced out of So Florida a few years ago and moved to NC which is surprisingly a lot more progressive than I expected and significantly less expensive right now despite the tax differences. Lobbying, political donations, and gifts of any significant value to politicians should be illegal.
It never will be because the conservatives argue semantics. They will argue that the definition of lobbying is protected as petitioning the government, knowing damn well that the lobbying being referred to in general conversation is bribery.

As a Florida resident, there is another problem that is as deplorable as rising costs and unaffordable home owners insurance; that is the disappearance of individual rights that disappear as quickly as fixed costs rise. De Santis is a travesty for this state. I hope he disappears into some PAC.
ABSOLUTELY! I live in Marion County, the Horse Capital of the World. Our rural area was a draw for 'horse people' who did and indeed still do bring in dollars. HOWEVER.. now the 'draw' is HIGH DOLLAR horse people... to the detriment of the 'hobby' horse owner or the 'horse-as-pet-and-trail-buddy' horse person. Real estate is astronomical, and is being bought by developers and folks who turn neighborhood residences into weekend or short term rentals.
Add to that.. the stress on our AQUIFERS, which were already stressed enough that salt water intrusion into coastal groundwater/DRINKING WATER suppllies... and sinkholes in areas served by Florida's aquifer.
And rent is astronomical... my friend, who is a teacher, is facing a near-DOUBLING of her rent on a two BR apt in the small town where she teaches.. which happens to have ''picturesque' appeal for tourists and winter visitors.
