I got my blues learning at Archie Edwards barbershop and loved days when Eleanor walked thru the front door... She is the real deal... Oh, and she taught me her way of playing "One Kind Favor" for which I will always be grateful... A treasure of a blues player and a great person, to boot...

It looks like Canned Heat co-opted the music for their song Going Up the Country.

Co-opted being a euphemism for stole. I believe they did not credit Henry Thomas 1928 recording on their 1968 release, so he got neither creative nor financial recognition. That’s ‘appropriation’ in the academic jargon of racism.

Yeah, they basically did a cover of it. The original by Henry Thomas also has a flute sounding instrument on it that plays the same melody.

Not co-opted...but stole the music in its entirety from Henry Thomas and then the lyrics came from a different song. (On the road blues...or something like that, by someone else from the same era) Canned heats' hit song is a blend of 2 different songs...
Always liked their song since Woodstock days..but feel it's not really an original song, more like a Mashup. But I grew up only knowing the C. Heat version for years. Lot of that going on in the 60s and 70s
