Hi Ali, I love the parts when you say "it's not for her, this dress would look much better on gamine/romantic/classic". Because sometimes I can see clearly that it doesn't complement her as a dramatic, but also can't figure out - who would this be good on? I'm a theatrical romantic so I think - maybe on me it would actually look great. But it's hard to tell, so yes, live those parts when you confirm whose lines are this and this dress, if not dramatic's 🥰

  • @EvilSnips

Glad you took my suggestion! I have a similar body type to her so I was curious what you had to say on her and her style. I heard people say she had to be a yin type because of her eyes and even though they are a prominent feature, I don't think they are representative of her as a whole.
Also I appreciate what you said on color blocking because some people say Dramatics can NEVER wear color blocks or cropped outfits, but I think it is okay and can be quite nice if it's well fitted like you said.

I’ve seen photos of her at a higher weight she comes across as soft dramatic to me (she’s fleshy in the upper thighs). I think she’s a very low-weight soft dramatic (especially in the photos you have chosen ). I’m a soft dramatic as well, and when I get very low and weight for my height (5’7” 115 lbs for example), I can be confused for something else.

I have big favor to analyze Christina Aguilera - I haven't heard about her characteristic or maybe I missed it. I think her example is very interesting, because she is petite (1.57 m), she started in music industry as very slim and tiny, but gained the weight and overall look has changed. Agree entirely. She seems D to me as well. Both visually and energetically/vibe wise. Her facial features are D as well. Overall she is very much D. I'd like this type of ID examples to prevail over Tilda i.e. that is usually used as D pin up. Tilda is styled certain way on photos used as en D example, she looks so much more non-androgynous when styled differently. Anya, Milla, Cate B., Lauren B., Katherine H. J.L.Curtis and even Taylor S. are much better examples. The same goes for other archetype pin ups. SD is not just Sophia L., C is not just Grace K. there are many others, both vintage and contemporary examples.

In the Queen's Gambit show, her styling was very feminine, in that classic vintage fifties look. It didn't look off on her at all .. She's MUCH skinnier nowadays as well, and she wasn't back then
I'm not entirely convinced... If we put her next to other Dramatics, like Linda Evangelista for example..

The costumes use geometrics very heavily (checkered pattern, plaids, etc.) which goes well with dramatics. If I remember correctly, she wears lots of 1950s lines when she is young, which she looks somewhat awkward in until she goes for more sharply tailored garments. During her peak she wears modified 1960s flamboyant gamine lines which generally blend well with her elongated and sharp bones.

I wonder how much weight plays into our perceptions because yes she looks sharp (especially in the face) however she is also underweight so that is going to make her look more angular.

There's one celebrity I've been curious about: Lily Cole. She's tall but has very Ingenue and Ethereal features. I've never been certain what her body type is because of that. Love your videos 😄

Hey Aly! Could you make a video about Taylor Swift? Merriam Style made a video about her, reasoning her being a gamine type. You say she's dramatic. I would love to see your reasoning and comparisons.

There's something very interesting about Anya Talor-Joy, she has this otherworldly vibe in the best sense of the word, and also very strong indivuduality, which is so refreshing, considering we're living in the plastic surgery era and a lot of the famous people have very similar faces and vibes now😄 Still very pretty; yet individuality, when it comes to looks, seems much harder to find now. As an actress she's very interesting too.
    Loving this new series✌
Perhaps Shakira would be an interesting choice next🤔 She's been rocking these belly dance and even somewhat rock outfits throughout the years now; and while being a soft natural (?) she's also very petite

To be fair, I think her image is very thought-out, so much so that I had never realised how wide and small she was until I saw Marriage Story, in which she wore very casual/frumpy clothing and minimal makeup. She still looks beautiful because of course she does, she's Scarlet Johanson. But she also looks more relaxed and relatable, like she's just lounging in her house.
