Hahaa nice video Sam, I agree with most of the things u've said many somalis do not know how to express themselves politely..its more like a command although the intention is good..but I think it's different when they r talking to someone older...they talk that way to friends n siblings only..😊
MashaAllah brother i really love your work and i love you for the sake of Allah , it's not only the language that you teach its also the Somali tradition in that beautiful way that you deliver it.
you are amazing brother, you pronounced somali perfectly, better than some somalis i know, Masha,Allah. we love you brother for the sake of Allah, Allah dartiis ayan ku jecelnahay.
Sam I swear to God keep it on and I proud of you and you are Muslim mashallah keep it on as you are doing mashallah and I hope this coming years you will improve your language as soon as possible well done no matter how mistake you do but you have to do alot of efforts and i hope you will speak as they speak in this coming years mashallah i proud of you if you are learning Somalia
Hahaha thats right bro coz our culture and language is from nomadic background .... Even the way we express our selves is nomadic to the core (nomads can be loud and straight forward with no sugarcoating and arent very good at being considerate and being polite) although we might have lived all our lives in city and congratulations for the baby boy bro and you getting better better in somali language.... Well explained and amazing video sam
I like you dumashi keep learning more than Somalia man don't give up what people say and don't listen what they writing in comments so thanks for shared and making dua with my Somalia people to forget qabil
Nice! I'd like to know the words for imperative "Look [at this]" and "Listen [to this]", because I work with Somali students and sometimes their attention wanders.
It was very interesting how two cultures are different 😂😂😂.. I would to See sam doing a video about our love of nicknames.. Like lugeey, cadaan, gacaneey it may sound very rude to the other people but it's completely normal to Somali people ..
hi, l found this video, u put OMG, you know much of somali culture. It is true what you said.most African language culture have no polite speech. lt is normal. It can mislead understand of expressions. Pleasure to hear from you and good job
lecker Berliner not that words only but there is four alphabets that foreigners are not able to pronounce or difficult to pronounce such C,X,Q,Kh. but it will be easy to you if you go Somalia or friend with somali diaspora in your country.
Mashallah your Somali is so impressive .I cann't really wait the time you will reach the ultimate point where you'll speak it fluently i.a.But where do you learn it mostly ??it seems you have got very strong source mashaallah like your pronunciations that makes you typical Somali.Anyway Congrats.
Very true. Before I thought only your parents could use these terms towards you. Then when I was exposed to multiple Somali grandmothers you learn there's this almost rudeness in the Somali language. I've found this is very similar to Asian, specifically Chinese culture. When an individual speaks to you this way, I now feel like they're family though they might be strangers.
Sam just wanna add this. There is single i and double ii. 1 .single i, is you asking somebody to do something to you. 2. Double ii, is asking someone to do something for you. Example. ifur- divorce me iifur- open it for me. i-dil - kill me 😆. ii-dil- kill it for me. i-xir- arrest me. ii- xir- close it for me. i-fiiri- look at me. ii-fiiri- check it for me. i-daa- leave me alone. ii-daa- leave it for me. . Iska is another group, it simply means “just” Iska-dhaaf- just leave it. Iska-ilow- just forget it. Iska-bax- just leave. Etc. ‘U’ is like, do for the third person. U-dir- send it to him/her. U-sheeg- tell him/her. U-daa- leave it for him/her. And there is “uu” which is the same as “buu” in some context but can be used in different context. uu for buu is like child language. Sas uu iyiri, he said that to me, sas buu yiri is used by the grown ups. Thanks
Thank you very much for letting me know. It is a fault of varieties in pronounciation unfortunately that I made this mistake. I'll make sure that it is in my description and I'll put a card in the video soon correcting it Inshaa'Allah.
+Sam Of Somalia "kāle" is colloquial speech so he is kinda correct, in general - most say "kāley" but leave then 'y' out- just like in other words like "samey --- same" -do ran also changes from "ordey - orde" - its speech simplifications
I like his pronunciation wallah this man is so good he's better than many other western Somali speakers
most white people we see speaking somali are not muslim,&struggle the pronunciation of arabic sounding somali alphabets.
+mohamed aden yeah maybe but there are some of them who are Muslims and still cannot speak as good as this man
true, sometimes proper pronunciation of somali alphabets X&C could mean the difference between speaking like native somali and not

Saan kuwad saaxip😊
kaalay put Y at the end
Kac=istaag=joogso, bax=tag=dhaqaaq=soco
Sam just wanna add this.
There is single i and double ii.
1 .single i, is you asking somebody to do something to you.
2. Double ii, is asking someone to do something for you.
Example.
ifur- divorce me
iifur- open it for me.
i-dil - kill me 😆.
ii-dil- kill it for me.
i-xir- arrest me.
ii- xir- close it for me.
i-fiiri- look at me.
ii-fiiri- check it for me.
i-daa- leave me alone.
ii-daa- leave it for me.
.
Iska is another group, it simply means “just”
Iska-dhaaf- just leave it.
Thanks
So say I had a Somali worker who wanted to come clean my office, would it be appropriate to say "Iskadhaf fadlan"?
no you say fadlan first
masha Allah sam waxad tahay macalin fican
Waaaw cadi matihid
Mahallah
I don't know if you aware of it but you have misspelled one of the imperatives.
Not kaale, it is kaalay
Thank you very much for letting me know. It is a fault of varieties in pronounciation unfortunately that I made this mistake. I'll make sure that it is in my description and I'll put a card in the video soon correcting it Inshaa'Allah.
+Sam Of Somalia "kāle" is colloquial speech so he is kinda correct,
in general - most say "kāley" but leave then 'y' out-
just like in other words like "samey --- same" -do
ran also changes from "ordey - orde" - its speech simplifications
+Sam Of Somalia you're correct, kaale and kaaley are all the same
Kaale, Kaaley, or Kaaley.. pretty much the same. but the more right one is kaalay
Gamma G no one cares
Go for ward we like u hada nahay soomli thanks alot
Continue my friend
So true, i never realised that...funny
Sure... in somali language, imperatives are not "rude" as in.other languages, it is very normal among somalis... thnx bro...
