Impressive! Currently in the UK people can't get a phone call appointment let alone a face to face one. They ask pharmacist to ring back patients instead
4:10 I got a typhoid at a young age and remember our neighbour who was a nurse giving me injections free of charge. People are very helpful and don't accept a payment helping a neighbour and feel insulted if you insist paying, subtleties of Somali culture only a Somali would understand.
Excellent content!
Full of useful nuggets for those on the fence to make the move to mother land.
Healthcare concerns is a major issue for the majority of the diaspora community.
This video is reassuring and encouraging.
JazakaAllahu khayran
I'm glad you are feeling better now. I don't know if anyone ever said this to you, but even though you live in xamar, you have a northern somali accent 😅
🤭 My first teacher studied in Hargeisa 😂
@@SamOfSomaliaTV that makes sense. Thank you, Sam!
Insha Allah,,
May Allah to give you speedy recovery and protect you and your family 👪.
We Love ♥ You my brother.
My Brother your in-depth and meticulously researched insights about Somalia were truly enlightening. Your contribution not only broadened my knowledge but also provided a profound understanding of the intricate dynamics and history of this captivating City, which I was grown up, educated and fled 34 years ago. Still in my memory I see the beautiful Mogadishu, the caring people. Although I live in Jigjiga, Somali State, I never get the chance to visit Mogadishu one more time. My Allah protect you and your family
I'd never been sick in my entire life until I was ten. We moved to remote area of Uganda where we didn't have clean water which resulted into bouts of typhoid that I was at least in the hospital once every three months for the next seven year.
I got to learn how to use herbal medicine ( with a medical touch of alchemy from the Prophet SAW himself) and I haven't taken a single tablet or gone to the hospital since then.
I last went at one in 2017.
The last Ayat of Sulat Dhuha says that we should te of the wonders Allah has done for us but being disease free has been the greatest one.
I can't forget the sickening smell Quatem from my mouth or the beat of drums in my ears after taking Quinine.
May Allah grant us all sound lives and May He give solace to our brothers and sisters suffering under the apartheid rule of Jews in Palestine as well as the Afghans who had to suffer the Earthquake yesterday
Amen
Same here. I was born in rural Somalia. I never had a single vaccine and i don't remember ever getting sick.
I got measles once around the age of 10 and that was it. No treatment ever needed.
@@saidhashi2856 our ancestors didn't know about these fancy treatments until less than a 100 years ago but it didn't stop them from living longer, healthier lives.
My grandma is nearly 110 but she's never been to a hospital.
She cooks her meals, treats people with her herbal medicine and goes out for a drink once in a while.
A real, living beast of a lady if you ask me

I am from Somalia and live in Germany. Believe me or not, it's like I live third world, and i mean that they don't have the knowledge or technology or medicine or doctors, but you have to make an appointment two to three weeks before and after that you got there you have to wait 3 to 4 hours long when you meet with the Doctor it will take 3 to 4 minutes and you will come back with ZERO results. Any sickness, even injury or infection, and the worst thing is if you have skin disease. I miss Somalia when it comes to health care thrust me.
I thought Germany has the best doctors with well-established healthcare.
Their problem is doctor/patient ratio. But u don't have to worry about misdiagnosis in Germany or wrong drugs. Something very common in Somalia.
What about $$ poor can’t afford care in Somalia
i was in Somalia, Bosasso during the summer and I caught Malaria. It was the scariest thing for me and my mom. Everything I put in my mouth was just puked out, even water. I kept on shaking and was literally sleeping on the toilet because every min I had diarrhea and vomiting. I lost 7 pounds of weight just because of vomit and diarrhea. My mom was scared for my life but the Health care there was good because they find the cause of the sickness quick and easy. But the thing was I was never used to getting so many shots and fluids in my body. The was the scariest experience of my life.
شفاك الله وعافاك من كل سوء ومكروه يارب العالمين 🤲
Love you akhi, may Allah give you a speedy recovery!
Asalaam Alaykum Brother
May allah protect you and your family Ameen
Thanks brother for sharing your story in Somalia
may Allah give you and your family shifha my brother.
One benefit that you do get from being exposed to these germs is that your immune system will be on another level.
Yup, one of my teachers(we used to call him budka) used to say, "Give your immune system exercise, don't cripple them like Westerns do"😂😂
@@Annaatti
You should never put your body at the risk but if the risk is in the environment and it's unavoidable and then that's a different thing. You do not need to exercise your immune system at all. Lol.
Also the general rule in Somalia among the educated class is to have your food served to you very hot and then to let it cool down in your presence for consumption so as to ensure that the gaps in food handling do not impact you as much.
I didn't know that and I live here currently. I would consider myself educated but never seen this practice here before.
There is educated class in Somalia? Lol that is a news lol waryaa cadi iska dhig gaal ma ahiye

May Allah give u and your family a good health even myself I have experienced the health routine when I was in Mogadisho first u will surprise after living for a long time u get used to it .
Lived in egypt for six years me and my kids, life in egypt was great no sickness other than cold and flu, we avoided street foods and we had filtering water system, every where we go we had bottled water. Then seventh year we moved to somalia for one year, second month after we started school we got sickness diarrhea and vomiting and fevers alxamdulilaah we were easily diagnosed. As long u stay away from tap water and street food u will be fine insha allah, it takes time to adjust in that climate. The good side is you never have to worry about weight gain coz cooking from scratch three times a day is hassle. 8:46

I think every family house hold has a person studying something related to Health (usually nursing) so administering those injections are not hard at all. Relatives , neighbors can do it for you. And they monthly awareness trainings sometimes trough UN agencies of how to administer things.
Bro every time U say BAJAJ i give U 99+ likes 😂😂😂🎉
The only thing that was always keeping me away from living in Africa again was my worry for bad health care. I am pleased to hear its improving and not bad at all. I might make the jump man.
Brother to help with typhoid you put about a one spoon of chlorine bleach in about 100 L drinking water vessel. Also have a spray bottle filled with a mixture of chlorine bleach and water to disinfect kitchen surfaces after meat has been prepared on them. Quite often food handling in Somalia is lacking even in the home.
I’m from the UK as well and had an operation -but it’s mainly to do with a disease I’ve got. Subhanallaah
Sam sorry about that 😂. But Im glad that you can gain huge experience living in Somalia. If you can live here, you certainly can in every corner of the world. Stay safe
What do you mean " if you can live here, you certainly can in every corner of the world"? Are you saying Somalia is the worst place on Earth because that's what it sounds like you're saying

Interesting. In Hargeisa if you don't know how to administer your own IV drips, you can go to any pharmacy with your stuff and they will administer it for you. I can't remember how much this costs. I was surprised at how accessible medication was when I went there as well. Mogadishu sounds like it is more advanced (i.e. nurses visiting you) but that makes sense because Mogadishu has more doctors/nurses than Hargeisa.
JazakAllahu khairan for your comment sister. Since this video I have been informed that you do usually go to a pharmacy for them to administer your drips in Mogadishu too. Maybe I paid a bit extra or something to get the special treatment 😅
I was waiting 10 Hours For NHS and you can’t get access to Doctors , unless you go private Doctor and pay yourself .
Manshallah brother .

Bro, I lived near you for a few years. Malaria and Typoid are bywords for a variety of things :)
Sc brother Sam.... Am sure in mogadishu they've two or three good hospitals and genuine pharmacies, but most pharmacies act like mini hospitals who misdiagnose you and administer you with fake medicine.
Anyway, I want to ask you how many decent hospitals is there in Mogadisho?

I was too confused back in late 2016 when I came back, I was like Eedo, ma farmashi fura rabtaa(aunt, are you gonna open a pharmacy).
And yes, we're basically all doctors, especially moms, so it's a normal thing for hospitals/pharmacies will send you home with a punch of iv stuff.
The nurse coming to you to administer medicine is just for our hospitality to you pal. They don't do that for the average Somali person. But overall, I am glad that you and your family are Ok.
Yes they do.
That's called social nursing, visiting people in their homes, elderly and newborns.
Masha Allaah brother Sam ,waxaad na jecleysiisey wadanka
You can visit your neighbor kenya where we treat malaria with intravenous drug
