Think shield builds are becoming more popular because they're much more accessible/easier. Seems like a lot of people have found the DLC very hard and great shield/poke builds trivialize basically all of the bosses.
I’ve always been a paladin player. Every souls game has always made shields a good option to run. But the poking is boring. I mostly use the shield to parry or guard counter.
It’s hard to choose my favorite weapon man, they’re all so dang cool. Maybe the star-lined sword? The ash of war just looks so stylish, and even the sword itself looks so cool.
Greatsword of Solitude is also a pretty underrated weapon in the DLC. It's just a solid workhorse that has a great Ash of War. It's a shame that it gets overshadowed by a lot of the cooler weapons in the DLC, which there are a lot.
@@prisonerofthehighway1059 a lot of ppl dont realize but also if you 2 hand the weapon the right click block has nearly 100 percent physical gamage negation, which is honestly isane for what it is.
The Spear of the Impaler is so good. It has the best of every weapon characteristic. Great ash of war, area of effect attack in the ash of war, throwing charged attack and great damage while two handing it with reach
To answer your shield question: I’d never used one before the DLC, but after 3 hours of fighting the final boss, I had to just cheese them. It was a unique play style that made you really watch your stamina. I wouldn’t mind a few shield builds here and there
It’s not really a cheese, you just utilized a broken build in the game. Cheese I would consider is when you make enemies fall off cliffs and make them stuck on a spot to kill them

Man the great katanas made me seriously feel somthin when I played with them! You feel like the ultimate badass with them and the dragon and rakshasa (latter cuz its like a bleed zwei lol) are my favs and even the normal infusible one is sooo fun! Crazy that there are still more new weapons ive yet to find but so far I loooovee the great katanas! Great vid as always matt!! 🤘🏽
Funny that my 3 main weapon slots are the top 3 weapons. Ive leveled every weapon i pick up and try it out. But the 3 i keep are bf arm, backhand blades and beast claws. All on blood affinity. I put bloodhound step on the bf arm for mobility when needed so i dont get caught by multiple enemies up against stuff like this dlc tries to do often. Sometimes if i need to carry a ranged weapon i have spectral lance on the spear from the rolling guys underground in the main game. Forget its name. But then i have to swap bf arm for blacksteel hammer for weight. But they are both blood affinity and have wildstrikes on hammer. When i do this i swap the shard of Alexander in
Backhand blades are amazing with blindspot, basically like having bloodhounds step with an attack added on at the end. So fun to dodge a boss attack and deal damage with one button press.
I know I mentioned this in another video but your iron greatsword repeating thrust build hard carried in the dlc and was just super solid. Definitely underrated and not op, with the super comfy greatsword move set with solid poise damage.
Although I would say it is not OP, I really have liked the sword of solitude. I pair it with a the eclipse great shield and solitude armor for a dark knight vibe. It has a good ranged attack and its follow-up is a high poise huge gap closer with significant damage. Basic but very practical for the dlc.
It's time to up your level cap bro. 180-200 is becoming the new meta, and for those who don't pvp(the majority) we really don't care about our level getting up there. Would love some higher level builds maybe capping out around 300
I think as long as the meta doesn’t change I’ll stick to 150 with occasional changes for specific videos. I plan on doing some RL 200 builds but tbh 150 still seems to be a sweet spot for many players.
Agreed. There's nothing fun about hitting 150 3/4 of the way through base game and dumping the entirety of the runes from endgame and dlc on just smithing stones. Not saying he has to stop doing 150 builds, but adding in stat breakpoints for higher levels would be appreciated.

My current lvl 150 shield build has 50 Vigor, 39 End, 48 Str, 20 Dex and 48 Arc using the Occult Cross-Naginata and Fingerprint Stone Shield. I really like the combination of wearing a Duelist armor piece and summoning Latenna, you can continue aggroing the enemy while she keeps shooting from a distance.
Not so much a shield poke build, but a guard counter build with the black steel Great hammer is insane, or the greatsword of solitude. Both do crazy stance damage. But the great hammer has a big holy explosion, if you do a guard counter. It is absolutely deadly for smaller enemies than anybody that can be staggered. Also I think it's popular because you have so much stamina in the build. You can wear really, really heavy armor and be very protected. Since the dlc is a little bit harder. Should definitely check it out. It's worth it.
shield builds are dope also. if for nothing else than the aesthetic. its a classic it think. plus tanking an otherwise really powerful attack feels really good lol.
Finally beat godfrey and im ready to head into the DLC been a long time coming and im really excited to try out all kinds of builds with the different weapons especially the martial arts weapons
Ive tried to use a shield poking build but it just isnt for me, i cant understand how people don't run out of stamina 😭 probably since its the final boss hitting so hard. But with what I've seen, shield poking builds with weapons like mohg spear or lance with bleed affinity are extremely strong and tank extremely well
Fun fact, lion claw is better than savage lion claw. For a shield just go with your best Fingerprint stone shield and Antspur Rapier set to blood afinity. Talisman : > Two-headed dog > Greatshield > Pearl shiled > What you want/resistance you need All you need is 48 strengh and 20 dexterity. It's not fun but trivialize most of the game.

Lion claw is faster, and more effective because instead of the follow up of the savage version you can just use it a second time. Where the savage lion claw shine is because it's more FP effective. But Savage lion claw have one more thing that is make me use it : it looks super ****ing cool !

Question, if I put on the Carian Sovereignty AoW in Keen affinity, does it lower the damage vs if I put it magic affinity? (I’m asking because my intelligence stat is a little low)
Yes but these ranged ashes don't scale that well with stats, using it on a dedicated int build with magic affinity probably gives you ~50% damage boost.
Euporia, so far, has been a fun weapon to use faith-based comet azur once charged feel like it might take a bit to get to that point but completely worth it. Been also using Rakasha Armor wonder if the little extra damage received if worth the trade off. But it hits that 51 poise mark.

Can you give alternatives to ritual sword talisman in your builds? Ofc it can go with every build almost. But not everyone can make good use of it. Im never at full health during fights where i can use the extra damage. If i was good enough to stay at full health i probably would not need build ideas
I would LOVE to see more op shield/shield-poke builds! From what I've seen, you can either make an immortal shield build but with low damage, or a high-damage build but with exposed defences...

Stamina and health regen in the physick. Pretty boring playstyle but I'd argue it's the strongest build in the game, ignoring stuff that's bugged and will almost certainly get nerfed/fixed.

Fav weapon thus far is probably a toss up between Fire Knight Greatsword or Milady. I really wish they would have focused more on the newer weapon types in the dlc. Multiple new weapon types only have 3 weapons in them which is a little underwhelming in my opinion. Still thoroughly enjoying the dlc
In my own testing (all of this on PC version) the magic scorpion charm did not buff the damage of the ash of war on the meteoric ore greatsword, I see this info being repeated a lot but i dont believe its true - it only increases the small amount of magic AR present on the weapon itself. Also for the anvil hammer faith was giving me a ton of AR returns, even equal to strength up to 50 at least and a bit beyond
It boosts it but yes it’s slight. For the Anvil Hammer Faith has solid returns but at RL 150 cap strength is the better investment, esp when factoring in 2 handing.
I've kept the same character since day one I'm on my 3rd base came went with a bleed/dex build also going for boosting my faith/int so I can use rannila twin blades as people don't like them but I love them
Yo for the Ore Blade you should swap out the talismans to Alex Shard, Axe, Claw, & 2 hand talisman and in your drink do Stonbarb and Spiked cracked tears! And 2 alt talismans if you don't want claw is Dagger or Spear or Ritual Sword
Those won’t boost the ash though which is what I’m mainly using. It’s not bad for charged attacks, but if you’re going for poise I’d recommend Anvil Hammer or Bloodfiend’s arm.
@TheKingofRedLightning the ash is good but the weapon overall just slaps and you should work on boosting its entire kit especially the charged heavy pokes
@@Andreef1111 agreed but imo it’s likely to be nerfed very soon. So I’m not investing much time into them yet. Same for thorn sorceries. The damage on them is likely higher than FromSoftware intended.
bro where is the new scyth we get at he end of the dlc? This weapon ash of war have s and when you hit with it it does massive poise dmg i just went vs malenia with out getting hit with this weapon (ofc the iframs can't dodge her waterfoul dance tho don't be expecting that)

You just need to put it in heavy affinity. The whetblade for that is in Stormveil castle.

Yes, they’ll work as normal.

Probably. I’m pretty sure the ash has intelligence scaling you’re going to want.

I've kept the same character since day one I'm on my 3rd base came went with a bleed/dex build also going for boosting my faith/int so I can use rannila twin blades as people don't like them but I love them

Howl of shabiri is 100 percent not worth taking the extra damage in the dlc. When you get 2 shot by trash mobs it's not worth
Depends on what scadutree fragment upgrade you’re on. Early on it’s not. Later though your defenses are much better.

Up to you. It’s not really a strength weapon so two handing doesn’t matter as much.

Average looking weapons are the strongest ?
Yo for the Ore Blade you should swap out the talismans to Alex Shard, Axe, Claw, & 2 hand talisman and in your drink do Stonbarb and Spiked cracked tears! And 2 alt talismans if you don't want claw is Dagger or Spear or Ritual Sword
Those won’t boost the ash though which is what I’m mainly using. It’s not bad for charged attacks, but if you’re going for poise I’d recommend Anvil Hammer or Bloodfiend’s arm.
@TheKingofRedLightning the ash is good but the weapon overall just slaps and you should work on boosting its entire kit especially the charged heavy pokes

@@AverageGamerMatt anything can be, but atm - perfume no doubt the most broken, haven't seen/used any better (damage) weapon in dlc yet
@@Andreef1111 agreed but imo it’s likely to be nerfed very soon. So I’m not investing much time into them yet. Same for thorn sorceries. The damage on them is likely higher than FromSoftware intended.
It feels like cheating tbh, i used them to clear furnace golems, killed a couple bosses, couldn't even see cool movesets bosses have...

I honestly hated renallas swords.
They’re fun but they are deff better at high levels.
The beast claws are not good lol
I like them a lot. You can easily get quick bleed & physical damage. 1 full ash is around 5-8k damage.
bro where is the new scyth we get at he end of the dlc? This weapon ash of war have s and when you hit with it it does massive poise dmg i just went vs malenia with out getting hit with this weapon (ofc the iframs can't dodge her waterfoul dance tho don't be expecting that)
