I wonder why the government agency wouldn’t grease their machinery either before or after each use
The taxpayers have PLENTY of money!

😊😊 HI ROSS they changed the parts that's why it's that way 😮😮 and all of the old school farmers use 2 grease equipment all of the time ⌚ 😊 and a alot of people hated when they changed 2 sealed bearings because U couldn't grease them no more either then when they go bad U have 2 replace the bearing 😮😮 OMG 9 27 2O24
I bet that new hex shaft is the upgrade the factory made to solve the problem you are having, with the hex design it won't drive from the pin!
Good video Ross. Guess this why my Dod kept his old Oliver superior for as long as he did. Good luck with this one.
I think on my old Deere drill, the book tells us to not transport the machine with a full load on it because of packing the seed in the hopper. I never worried about that, if I go very far, I always use a wrench to turn the shaft before engaging it, to be sure it turns. My teen age son was helping one time and planted 10 acres before I checked on him and the drive pins were sheared. So I had to repair things and redo the entire field! He either dropped it into gear at too high a speed or tried to back up with it engaged? On your project there, it looks to me like the spring is too much when in the disengaged position. Very possibly why the thing wears so bad, especially if the user transports it very far with the wheel drive engaged. But, it's a rental, what do we really expect!
When you drop things you're restoring your faith in gravity
I had one of them great planes before I retired and it would tear up while it was in the barn being stored i had a man come by one day and he saw it and fell in love with it and offered me a lot more money than I had in it and I told him that I didn't wanna sale it and he offered me more money 💰💰💰💰💰🤑 and I said come get it and that it was his as is the same thing that I got when I got it but I did use it for 2 years and did a lot of what you are doing to it 😊😊😊😊😊 God Bless Y'all and have a great weekend 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I would call Great Plains and talk to them , skip that parts book
If you don't waste the Governments money, they will give it to foreign country's, so I suggest you use the money
Ross I worked at great plains Industries Wichita , KS. (Transfer pump mfg.) Great Plains drills are made at Salina , KS. When I worked at the pump company a woman in shipping told me this. Once in a while a truck shows up with incoming freight for great plains drills.
I was looking at that as you was putting it together thinking a round shaft on a hexagon coupler
I feel your pain. I used to work on the Conservation Districts Great Plains drill. Multiple users meant multiple problems.
Ross, sounds like part of that job is being the complaint department🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks Michael
Hopefully making progress. Won't know until later on. It looks like you have improved it. Thanks for the video. See you later.
I have the same issues with parts. My son's MF 285 needed front wheel bearings and the original had the race with it while the new ones that I ordered did not. When I called the AGCO parts guy he told me that the new ones didn't have the race and he forgot to cross reference it. So I had to make a trip back to the dealer to get the new correct one, which he had one in stock but had to order the new one, with the race. I guess that's what happens when you have older equipment, that's fun sadness for us guys. Anyways, I enjoyed watching, thanks and I hope your dad goes well!
It’s just like with running my milk route. Customers will not rotate the milk and then they expect credit on out of dates.
You're correct. Wedging is an issue. We learned the hard way too. So from now on we don't put seed in until we get to the field. We great our TYE drill every 40 acres but usually on small fields we grease at the start of a field and then again when we clean everything out and put it away. When the season is done.
The hexagonal hole in the new part is a puzzle. It looks like the two shims on the back side of the clutch took out all the lateral movement on the shaft. I think you are well on your way to repairing this part of it. I really don't understand what this assembly does with the chain drive. How does this work with respect to actually drilling seed into the ground?
Ross, if that was Abrams tank a farmer would find a way to destroy it. Why ? Because it is not theirs. That’s the way it is.
Did you ever think it could be in the gearbox and drive system on the left side of the planter it has one on the right one on the left
On fighting the spring, put spring in vise compress it take two zip ties or wire around it to hold it in a compressed state. Install and cut zip ties.
Could weld some light chain to the cylinder lock and to the end of the pin then it won’t get lost. Clip will probably still disappear haha
I thought I was going to take the hammer to the nose when you were installing the roll pin.
Nice repair so far look forward to next instalment off drill repair
You just shooting the parts cannon and hoping it gets fixed
Good job. Quite the lesson in patience.
Hope that fixes it. Good video Ross.
Got to love some rental equipment!
How are you going to get the chain on?
Is that a COOP rental?
😁👍👍👍👍
