      @@DieHardFishing they become more common closer to the shore the further North you go where more salmon are more abundant espeiclally during runs

    Yup. Male salmon shark. First time I have seen one caught in California. I knew a PhD student who did his thesis on these, but he was working on them up in Washington, mostly in Puget Sound. Interesting. They are closely related to white sharks, so easy to see the confusion.

    i landed a 100# bft on a trinidad12 took me 5 hours almost to land it then i lost a bft setup to a 13’ mako

    Typically ppl ask you to get the location because they want to get the same fish. I’m asking you for the location so I know where to avoid. So where is this at in Bay Area, you don’t mean SF bay right???
    How far off the coast is this?

    Looks like the shark died. They need to swim forward for air to go over their gills. With it tail wrapped it probably suffocated. It probably just sank to the bottom of the ocean when you let it go.

      Hopefully was able get some 02 intake while descending, otherwise Lamnids can overheat and seize up after long bouts, plus hook injuries are often debilitating in the long term.
      Really good to see the specimen released, they are expensive ecological fixtures and can live 50 plus years or more. Like big mako sharks they take a long time to manufacture in terms of trophic and environmental interests.
      White sharks can live for 70+ years.
      Salmon sharks are epic high performance interceptors and all the Lamnids are excellent sharks, only five species in the whole genus/group.
