How To DIY Lawn Yard Sign | Weather Proof | 24 Inch Height
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 січ 2021
- Hi Foxy Friends! Today I'm sharing how I made my Yard Sign for my kids birthdays. It's weather proof, long lasting so you can use them over and over again! Each letter is 24 inches, so it's big enough to see down the street! You can use your Cricut or Cameo Silhouette or any vinyl cutting machine you have. It's a lot easier than you think, slightly time consuming, but super easy. I'm sharing everything I used, how I used it and leaving nothing out, hence the 20 minute video! So let's get started with what you'll need:
The following are all affiliate links:

Thank you so much for your tutorial! It was super helpful! One thing that might help aligning the pieces together is to use parchment paper. The vinyl and transfer paper doesn't stick to the parchment paper so then you can line it up more quickly.
Omg.. this is awesome. Now I can do this for my daughter's birthday
Yay! So happy I could help you! Let me know if you have any questions!
Great tips! Love the way you explain concepts! Thanks!
Great Job!!! thanks so much for sharing
This is such a great idea.
Great job.. very inspirational
Thank you for the detailed tutorial!!!
You are so welcome!
Im glad i came across your video and you are so right those letters are expensive.. now i can make a sign for my grandson graduation 2021
Yes I was like OMG that much for less then 2 days
@@kristalgillispie1455 Right?!
yay! So glad that I helped you out! Good luck making your letters! If you need any help let me know!
This is great!!!!
I just wanted to say you're awesome for giving her an Atari T-shirt
Thank you for this!
Thanks for the information!
Very nice creative and beautiful
Thank you!
hey, thats a great idea.
Great you can save these and use these each year!
Yep! I neighbor even used them for their sister!
Add parchment paper under it, it wont stick to it and you can line up without having to lift constantly pull it back up.
Its so awesome!! Well done!! 🤗✨️🌼🎂👑🌞🍬🎉happy birthday Bella 🎂 🥳 🎉where did you purchase the white plastic? Thank you
Thanks for sharing in such detail! I look forward to making some soon. Just a few questions please...on Amazon for the vinyl you used, how many rolls of vinyl & what size is each roll for that price are you receiving? I think you get to pick which colors by contacting them first to complete the order, is that right?
I actually bought it from a place called Craft Vinyl dot com. They have super strict rules, but are the cheapest that i have found. As long as you follow the rules you'll get the best price out there. I got the 12 x 15 ft rolls. You'll need about 4 ft of vinyl per letter, a 15ft roll is $6.95. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Yaaaaay👌🏽
Thanks!
Great video! I’m thinking about making one for my sons 1st birthday. Is there anything you’d do differently or you’d recommend?
Thank you! I don't think so. I took out the parts that I filmed that were lessons learned, like how to lay down the vinyl. The first few letters had a lot of bubbles but by the time I filmed what I did do, I had gotten it down. Just make sure not to freak out with all of the bubbles. You can slice them with your exacto knife and you can barely see them. Just make sure when you pop them to go with the grain of the corrugated plastic. Also make sure that you lay down your letters in the same direction as the internal slats, so that when you put the stakes in, the letters are facing the correct direction! Good luck, it's a LOT easier once you get started. Good luck, you got this! Oh make sure to give yourself plenty of time to do it. I gave myself a few weeks, so there wasn't the pressure to finish. :)
Thank you for sharing where I order the white board and how much do you think you spent in cost planning my sister's 50th birthday
I answered this down below, but these were prices from 2020, but this is what I paid. The Corrugated plastic was $40 (to make about 21 letters), and then vinyl cost about $40, depending on where you buy it, then the stakes were another $35-40. You could get all of the Homedepot stakes and those are $1.12 per stake, but all of the letters will be the same height, the higher cost ones were the small stakes ($10 per pack, which will hold 4 of your letters, if you buy from Amazon) and the really tall stakes for the HAPPY (I did buy those from a place called Dirt Cheap Signs, but it was $11 to ship $10.50 worth of stuff, that being said, I paid rush shipping, so it might lower then that, so I would really check there first). Seems like a lot, when you add it up, but you can use them over and over. I've used them 4 times already, and plan to use them for every birthday! Really you could rent them out to your friends for half the cost of what they are going for (at least in my area they are about $120 for a 24 hour rental, I figured I made my own for about the same but I get to keep them and use them over and over). Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions, sorry this was a long winded answer =)
I was thinking even though you might have in hindsight if you ever did it again you could have use your sewing ruler as if she especially when you were laying down. Stuff onto the corrugated plastic
What kind of sticks did you use or how did you secure in the yard?
Love this video! but i do have a question how did you print the letter? or did u purchase them? im so confused lol i want to try this!
I think she used a cricut
Yes I used a Cricut machine to cut out permanent vinyl, and put it on Corrugated Plastic.
🎉🎉🎉😊😊
What kind of Cricut do you use?
what mm thick is the corrugated did you use?
Hi I’m really interested in doing this can you tell me what type of machine and software you had to purchase
Hi! I used a Cricut machine and Cricut has their own design software called Design Space, that is fairly easy to use. Let me know if you need any other help. I linked the Cricut machine in the details. Good luck, you can do this!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you!
Use a roller and it will remove bubbles evenly or mild heat gun
How much did it end up costing? I know you can reuse it forever. I bought one from Amazon for 55.00, has already paid for itself. Nice Job.
Do you have the link?
It seems pretty expensive... The corrugated plastic from Home Depot she linked is $30..and its 48in by 96 in...
I would say that's maybe at least 2 or 3 letters.. and the little H stakes are 30 pieces for like $49.
Still an AWESOME project but pretty pricey
You might want to try doing wet application for getting them positioned. :)
Thanks! I will have to try that next time. I have heard of doing wet application for smaller things. But not something so big, never even thought of it!
How much did it cost to do this? The letters look great!
Thanks! Well the Corrugated plastic was $40 (to make about 21 letters), and then vinyl cost about $40, depending on where you buy it, then the stakes were another $35-40. @@FoxysDomesticSide I appreciate you taking the time to give me all the details! I’m going to do it! I have 4 siblings and I want to do it for each of their birthdays starting in February. So making them myself will be so much better than paying $300- $400 dollars! Thanks again!
@@tinagilbert2583 Good luck! I want to see pictures! If you have any other question don't hesitate to reach out!
Bigger than mat projects like this can also be done with cardstock and will be waaaaaay cheaper. You will only be missing the shine
Yes it could be done that way, but I decided to do it this way so I can reuse it and not worrying about it getting wet. So far I've used it two years in a row for both of my kids, and then a neighbor borrowed it for her sister, so for under $100 I've already used it 5 times. And it still is going strong and plan to use it until the kids don't want a huge sign out front announcing their birthday :)
I probably missed this. But about how much corrugated plastic did you use
Not sure if I mentioned it, but more details are on the blog post bit.ly/3vhiD6w, but I used 1 sheet of 4' x 8' and one sheet of 3' x 6'. If you don't have a big car, I would suggest getting a bunch of smaller sizes. It barely fit into my SVU and I had to sort of ramp it up on the back of my seat to fit. Good luck!
How many sheets of corrugated plastic you used?
I used a 4'x8' sheet and a 3' x 6' sheet. Hope this helps you! This is for my 24" letters.
How many letters fit on one corrugated plastic from the link you provided?
Your video is amazing by the way!! Love your signs !
@@kiragrenier5731 Thank you! How many you can fit on each sheet depends on how big you want your letters. But I squished them on there, so there was no wasted space. I got 5-6 letters. depending on what letter it was. Like the I takes up less space then the B or R
Hello
New subscriber, can this be done with a silhouette cameo. Thanks
Thank you! Yes you can do this with a silhouette. I don't have any experience with it, but you do it the same way I would think, do an off the mat project to cut the vinyl.
If you have Silhouette Studio Business Edition, you can use Tiling.
Where did you buy your corrugated plastic from and how much.. and where did you purchase the vinyl.. great job
I bought mine from Home Depot. You can get an 8' sheet, so make sure you have room in your car! There's a link in the description of the exact one I got. Good luck!
Where did you buy the white board
I bought it at Home Depot. Good luck with your project!
What is the width and height for the letters? Is it 24x24.
24" and the width varied depending on what letter it was, like the letter i isn't as wide as the letter m. Hope that helps!
Which cricut do you have
I have the maker, but you can use any of the cricuts.
Is there a video of u cutting the letters thru Cricut?
Hi, if you go to minute 3.14, you can see how I did the letters, but not specifically cutting them. Do you need to know setting? Or something more specific I can answer?
Yes, what settings did u use and vinyl. I’m new to the Cricut world.
@@newhitezin I have the Maker and use the "outdoor Vinyl" setting with "more" pressure, it's on a drop down menu after you pick the kind of material you have. I believe, if I can remember correctly the Explore Air 2 has the same setting. If that doesn't make sense, I can email you some screen shots.
@@FoxysDomesticSide I need help with settings
@@LadyDimePiece4Eva Sorry my cricut was put away and wanted to be exact. But the setting I use is Premium Outdoor Vinyl and then I set the pressure to more. Hope this helps!
How big did you do your letters? Like length and width ? By the way you did a great job!!!!
Never mind just rewatched the beginning and saw where you mentioned this! 🤪
Thanks! Well I picked a font that I liked, and then made sure that I kept the height to width ratio on, and I made the letters 23.5 inches in height and then let the ratio figure out the width. I used the font AllStart4 on dafont, it's a free font :) Let me know if you have any other questions, good luck with your project, you got this!
@@FoxysDomesticSide thank you so much! New subscriber ♥️
What do you mean “let the radio know the width?
What kind of printer are you using? Is this just a traditional printer like HP to color your paper or you buy the paper pre-colored?
How much did it end up costing you?
Hi, about $110, but I have used them 6 times already :)
Mem buying this product I am from india
Can you share your project so I can just print it out
Sorry, just seeing this! I'm not sure how to share it from Cricut. If I ever do it as a PDF, I'll let you know!
You didn't show how to make it
Which part were you confused about? The whole video is about how to construct a lawn sign. Let me know how I can help you. :)
Can you make me a yard sign ?
haha, if you lived closer you could borrow mine!
