    Everyone argues that the NBA and MLB should shorten the amount of regular season games while everyone wants to to expand the NFL season to 17-18 games. The NFL regular season is the only regular season worth watching and following week to week.

The fact that the NBA guarantee these guys so much money for nothing doesn't make them want to compete. Thinking long term... maybe we can have cake and eat it too.
      If we had 36 teams... each plays each two times, 70 games per team, but for the fans we'd have 1260 games, more than the 1230 games we have now.
      More teams, more local fans, fewer games per player, but more games for all!

    To those that claim athletes today are stronger and tougher than the old days, just take a look at Michael Jordan, John Stockton, and Karl Malone. The elite players back in the 80s and 90s rarely miss a game or two in the regular season.
    Jordan had 9 seasons playing the full schedule of 82 games in the regular season, plus 2 other seasons where he played at least 80 games.
    John Stockton played full 82 games 17 times in his career, and Karl Malone did it 10 times (82 full games) and had another 7 seasons where he played at least 80 games.
    Heck, Jordan at the age of 40 in his final year with the Wizards, played the full 82 games while averging 37 minutes per game.
    Now, that's toughness and resilience!

      That is true but the point about travel ball is a big factor in that. Its not a debate. Players today are playing 12months a year from ages 9 to 18 getting one season of NCAA ball then hopping to the NBA at 19 or 20 years old. The 5 star kids are playing high school ball, Travel ball and competing in the USA select program and at elite camps. This is youtube think about this, you see Ball Is Life videos/highlights on kids all year. That means they are playing all year. Its a problem. Players in previous generations didn´t have the same amount of miles coming into the league as the players today.

    You can solve the problem of guys sitting down marquee games by determining home court advantage based on the teams head to head records. So if the Bucks goes 2-0 against the Clippers, then they would have home court if they face each other in the playoffs. That way when the good teams face good teams they would put their best foot forward because the games would matter and the fans wouldn't be cheated.

  • @jackmehoff4165

    Certain players are turning the nba into a "lazy" league. Load management can be accomplished without missing games that fans want to watch. Instead of playing 35-40 minutes a game, just play these players 17-20 minutes every game. That way their stats won't be inflated, and would reflect more of an 82 game season. The idea of shortening the season is a scam by the players. Even if the nba trims the schedule back to 60 games, these "load management" players will still take games off. .

    • @nmarbletoe8210
      @nmarbletoe8210 5 років тому

      Yup, just play them less. Get rid of back to backs. Much better.
      I don't blame the players though -- it's the fans, we have gotten so focused on championships, GOATS and all, teams have to play for the post.

  • @MJFlairs
    @MJFlairs 5 років тому

    Easy solutions to the problem:
    1. Before tickets go on sale and tv schedule is made, let it be known what games the stars will miss. If doctors or whoever say load management, then it should be an amount of days they figured the player needs and how often right?
    2. Switch up to a payout like the nfl and start paying players by games played.

  • @CBrown
    @CBrown 5 років тому

    Simple: Create a load management cap, say 5 games. Anything beyond that the player MUST be on the injury report and MUST miss a minimum of 10 games when injured. At the point when the player returns, if they are unable to play full minutes the player must then miss the entire next game. That goes on until they can play full minutes again. This is intended to punish the team and potentially ruin their record of this is something they try to do. Huge fined should also be imposed on both the player and team if they are caught resting beyond the cap.

    For everybody talking about pace of play and how much fast the game is today versus 25-30 years ago, read this. In the 87-88 season, teams averaged 87.7 FGA, with only 5 3PA, and 108.2 PPG. In 91-92, those numbers were 87.6, 7.6, and 105.3. Now in the "much faster pace" era of 2018-19. they averaged only 89.2 FGA, 32 3PA, and 111.2 PPG. So, please regale me more with how much faster the pace of play is versus then.

    Kawhi said before the season began that he was healthy and it's different to what it was last season with the Raptors. Then continues to sit out games for "load management". Silver needs to step up and do something about this travesty NOW. Because now you got every other player sitting out games even when their healthy. It's destroying the game/league

    Rob I agree. Top 6 should be in the playoffs. 7 and 8 go home. You have a 500 record. Also, cut the season to 60 games. The regular season wild mean more. I'm not watching Utah Utah against Chicago anyway.

    I mean I'd rather see stars than not see them at all, especially in the playoffs. So load management isn't for every player but if it will help you be there for playoffs or extend your career we got to accept that. Most players want to play so lets not make this about players not wanting to play.

  • @dartagnandaire214
    @dartagnandaire214 5 років тому

    You cut the games down to 62, they still going to load manage. Cuz at 62, you only need about 38-42 games to win to make playoffs. You give a player an inch, they will take a yard.

    Add Seattle Supersonics and the Las Vegas Baby, Minnesota go to East (or Memphis).
    Teams get a cut of the TV footage FOR THAT GAME. If they sit a star they eat the money.
    There, fixed it!

    I look at load management or resting players in the NBA, like taking vacation days off for those of us with regular jobs, professions and careers. There is no way I look at that as a bad thing unless it hurts the company’s operations. This is the problem I have with what Kwahi is doing. There are times when taking vacation days off is detrimental to the company because of critical times in the companies season and operations. Unless it’s an emergency, the company therefore should have the right to decline a worker from taking time off during those times. The game with the Bucks was a highlight or showcase game. Kwahi not being there was detrimental to the company’s brand, season and function which is to compete and entertain. So, he should have wanted to play to support the company-the team, he should have wanted to play in the Buck’s game for the challenge of competing against the best. It’s the classic paradigm: the individual verse the collective or group; in this case the team or family. In the end, perhaps it comes down to being selfless or selfish. If Kwahi wants to be thought of as one of the best, he needs to show more competitiveness, assertiveness and aggressiveness. He should have played in this game.

I think it’s good players are taking more control instead of being used and tossed out like players from more of the old school mentality

    I have to agree with Rob here, the NBA season is just too long!! What is the point of watching 82 games only to see teams get swept in the first round of the playoffs. If only 8 teams made the playoffs and they just had 60 games to get there, every NBA game would be sold out and we would see talent coming out of the woodwork. And why do they need 7 games in the first round?? How about best of 5?? We all know how much money these players make, but is sacrificing their health really worth it? Some of these players have more surgeries in a season than some people do in a lifetime. I think it would add more value to the sport if players didn't have to load manage and worry about staying healthy. I mean you'd have to agree, it would've been a hell of a lot more exciting to see Golden State get their asses handed to them with Klay and Durant in the lineup))).

    What they should do is get rid of conferences in the playoffs. Have the top seeds choose what team they wanna go against of the 15 other playoff teams on tv. So the Raptors would go on tv and say we want the Heat in the first round. And so on until all teams are chosen.
