Main reasons the rating are low:
-Most of the top teams are on the west and alot of people cant watch the games that late
-Golden State Warriors are on national tv all the time and their top players are all out because of injuries
-Kawhi missing key games is also a problem as one of the best players in the NBA
-New Orleans have a lot of national tv spots and Zion is out because of injuries

1) KD is Missing

3) Khawhi sitting out national games
4) Most NBA fans hate the Lakers except LA, and that's pretty much all media talks about
5) Harden scoring 40pts a gm is great, but so unwatchable, add Westbrook to that and its nausiating
6) Small market teams always lose their players, why would they watch?
7)Too many 3 point chuckers
8)The west is too heavy

true...the best nba season ever was 1993 because everyone was doing everything..it was so fun and ever since then the nba has gotten worse for some reason...that was peak basketball..these kids today have no idea how good the nba in 1993 was and why mj is the goat because he was better than everyone at the nbas apex...he was scoring 50 in the finals...he was averaging 41 in the finals on 50% fgs and was not a shooter vs hand checking so think about someone averaging like 54 a game in the finals in today's weak defense faster pace era something like that.....he was basically the best player ever in that moment and walked away ...when you seen the best why should we watch the rest of these clowns trying to live up to that?..you wont...its a wrap...mj in 1993 was peak of the sport..your never going to see someone that good again...trust me..put that mj in todays nba he woud average 55 a game..easy...the dude didn't get paid or have the luxury training planes we have today he gambled smoked stayed up all night...in todays media landscape he would not be able to hurt his image like that and he would care about his social media so he would get a good nights rest work on his threes and score 60 easy....trust me....mj today would score 100+ in a game..hes elite as they came...and he played all 82 a lot

I use to love the nba. I watched about 80% of the regular season and 100% of playoffs.
I just grew out of it. I think the main reason I use to love it was because the players were older and I was a kid and a teenager. But now I’m 30. It’s kind of depressing 19 year olds make millions and it’s bad for my mental health knowing what I make.

1. Too much player movement. Lebron moving around so much for example has made people choose to watch a handful of games instead of watching the journey of the season.
2. The stars aren’t compelling MJ had personality, Kobe, Shaq, Barkley, Magic, Bird, etc.. from the 80’s and 90’s had personality that was engaging. They also played the role of the traditional American athlete. Sports are like WWE wrestling and today’s NBA player has decided they don’t want to play that role and fans have disengaged.
3. It feels like the NBA promotes the game of basketball as secondary. We talk about players feelings, transactions, off the court lives, “more than an athlete” social justice etc...
4. LOAD MANAGEMENT must stop, the stars don’t play every game and if they do they don’t play as hard as possible every game they do play.
5. Lebron doesn’t play the role as top dog like Kobe, MJ, Magic, and Bird did. Here is what I mean. Though Lbj might be better than those players but he doesn’t play the Athlete protagonist the same way they did by going to Miami, then Cleveland, then LA. His de-emphasis of the regular season, and watching him lose 6 finals but the media telling you rings aren’t the only thing that matters. All this confuses the fans. For example whose the greatest Quarterback of all time? Tom Brady why? 6 rings boom we’re done next question. Fans are simple they work 40 hours a week, they got school, families, responsibility’s. They don’t want to add nuance to every sports discussion involving the top players in the NBA. MJ made the bulls. Karl Malone made UTah. They need players drafted in whatever market they are drafted and stay there and just struggle to win. Now days we don’t get to see the players struggle if they don’t “win” by their second contract they dip. Kawaii just won in Toronto then he dipped? Now he barely plays? Due to load management? That’s a joke.
6. It feels like the players don’t care that much about the fans satisfaction. I don’t have an expanded point for this one but that’s the feel you get. When you hear quotes from KD and Kyrie they come off as condescending and dismissive.

I agree with a earlier youtuber that the games are way too late. Especially if you are on the East Coast. Not many people are staying up till 12 in the morning to watch the West Coast games. Then add in the fact the NFL season is still ongoing. Another issue is the game is degrading a bit when you see 65-80 threes a game.

Every team plays the exact same way. Jack up threes or score on fast breaks.

Yup. Back then when u watch the highlights, you'll see variations of offense. I just watched 5 nba highlights and more than 50% of the highlights are players shooting 3s. I saw a 3 in 1 fastbreak and the ball handler passed it to an open player standing outside the 3 pt lane!

The reason the ratings are down is partly to do with media judging players by rings. Your telling fans you only need to watch in April, May, June.
That's what I been thinking too. Honestly since there will be only 1 champ why watch any of it. Regular season stats don't matter unless they like the player. And by that logic the MVP shouldn't matter as it's a regular season award... SMH
Championships have been the parameter for greatness going back to Russell and Wilt. Plus media has been saying this for years, it did not just don in the last couple of years
No doubt but in the past there was room for guys to be appreciated, even the ones who didn't win anything. With the 24hr sports news cycle it's more or less ur a champ or you're not. So guys can carry teams all year, set records but fans & media at some point say, they didn't do it in the playoffs so what does it matter. That was KD'S whole career before he got with GSW. And this dude been an all time great... SMH
It's not even the rings part. Whenever a game happens, they are already making playoff projections and prognosticating what is going to happen in May and June. They hardly cover what is going on now. Then after that, every time a player has a good performance, he is already being compared to old stars and saying whomever is the next _ insert name. Someone now is already on track to be the best ever, when it's their second season. All that talk gets old and is not marketing what is happening every day/week.
The ESPN and TNT broadcasts are hurting because they are not flexing their schedules. It's not like they didn't know ahead of time that stars from Pelicans, Warriors Etc will not have the projected team they expected. They should have been changed what games would be played.
Lastly, the game play is weak because coaches suck and everybody is playing the same. You would have thought with the "so called parity and duo's that teams would have their own individual identities. But that is not the case, and it is very boring to watch.

Why? Maybe it was because the white fan got tired of hearing about how racist they are. When players regularly walk around with TShirts featuring themes like "Equality". Or maybe they didn't believe a guys team should have been taken from him for a private conversation in his home. It was completely ignored that there was zero evidence of any discrimination on his part in running the team. Maybe fans didn't like it when the owners changed their titles so as not to offend some players who felt like slaves...let that one sink in for a minute. Or perhaps it was the WNBAs insistance that they should be paid more despite the fact that mathematically they shouldn't exist AT ALL. Regardless of that they accused the league of some PC nonsense that didnt sit well with the fans. Maybe it's the fact that Lebron has become a SJW who is regularly biting the hand that feeds him with the things he says. Could it be that when he went West fans realized they could live without his nonsense? The overall theme here is White fans are tired of being fed grievance politics during their leisure time by a bunch of millionaires who seem ungrateful despite their immense success. It is in this context that a league run by blacks (for the most part) asks: hey, where are all the fans going?

Same thing I went through 16 yrs ago when I lived in the Midwest. I watched way more Iverson, T-Mac, J-Kidd, Young Bron, and Rip Hamilton than I did of Kobe/Shaq, Duncan/Parker, or Dirk. I wasn't staying up til 12 to catch bball when I had to be up at 5am.

The NBA's most successful ratings era the 90s: strong defense, opposing teams approach each game as battle warriors and not a bunch of frat boys joking and laughing and giggling with one another. In the 90s when a guard dares to enter the lane you know a tough foul (usually a hard elbow) is coming. Now anybody breathes around a guard there's a foul. The NBA is more show and no substance, fans are not stupid, if we want a show we'll go elsewhere.

GSW showed the way with their winning ways but there's too many teams where everyone is putting up 3s. The battles in the paint are now nonexistent which takes away from the beauty of the game. Maybe its bc the NBA has like 6 players that truly make ppl wanna turn it on and watch. And 2 of them (KD, Steph) arent playing and 1 of them (Kawhi) only plays when he wants. Basketball isn’t the same game anymore. These NBA stars are pampered to the highest degree. Most pampered athletes in the world.
Players are being celebrated, deified and haven’t even been to an NBA championship.
You got people claiming Luka, albeit very talented and skilled, being called a top 5 player and hasn’t done shyt in the playoffs. Hasn’t even been to a playoff game. He hasn’t won anything. Same thing with AD and Harden to a lesser degree.
Knicks and Chicago, two of the biggest markets in the NBA, suck.

I’m on the west coast and I don’t even watch the National TV games because majority of them are trash 🗑. I don’t want to see the 2-12 warriors . I don’t want to see the pelicans with no Lonzo and Zion . Don’t want to watch the lakers beat up on the weakest teams in the leauge. NBA needs to do a better job of scheduling more interesting games that the fans want to see . I also stream and have cable but i stream the games I want to see more often than not .

Carmelo Anthony is a victim of media bias every time they talk about him they have to paint a bad picture only because he was drafted the same year as LeBron. LeBron has played no defense for years and they never had a problem with that but when it comes to anyone else is the biggest deal

1. The China debacle clearly affected the NBA. The NBA's biggest market is in China and they were not happy with the Daryl Morey situation. Not to mention the politicians over here used that as an excuse to harp on the NBA.
2. The Clippers, Warriors, Pelicans all have national games and Zion is out, the Warriors are depleted, and Kawhi is sitting out every other game 😂.
3. The NBA scheduling is always terrible with these West Coast teams. It has always been a problem and these load management stories are an issue.
4. Blazers, SA, and GS are considered smaller market teams and their teams, but these are heavily populated areas. Portland is the largest city in the Northwest Region. SA has a population of at least 1.5 million people. GS moved to SF (population close to a million) and they're losing. Those rich people aren't going to pay see that and the fans aren't as attached to GS as Oakland were.
It's only a month in so the ratings will improve. However, it's not a good thing when so many stars (and the most hyped rookie since LBJ) are missing games due to injury or load management. The sense is also that players do not seem to care about the regular season.
That's a false media driven narrative to foster interest in the league and only marks are buying it. Only 2 teams will realistically win the title and they both play in LA.

1. injuries to major players (KD, STEPH, Zion, Klay, etc.)
2. most of the stars are in the west and their games come on extra late for east coast viewers
3. Free streaming sites and apps
4. Load management

Honestly , speaking of the original season being useless, and all that matters is the play off, and rings, because its no different to the NFL also.. Thats why in soccer, its all about point table, you win, you get 3 points, you tie, you share the points, and a loss is 0 points added to your team within the table, and the bottom 3 get relegated, because they for one have the less points, and less deserving to stay in the top league. in the end its about gaining the most points, is what makes you the champion when it comes to the league title that is, and deserving so as well, but in American sports, its the opposite,, an 8th seed to is less deserving can be by far luckier in compare to a hard working number 1 spot in either confrence.
