A blast from the past for me. It was the very first car I drove when I went out to Singapore for work. It was a 2 litre Prima model, in a medium metallic blue, with one of the most efficient a/c systems I knew back then.
The Hyundai Stellar was more popular as a taxi than private cars. I remember in my town in the 1980s when most taxis were Stellars some in garish colours like orange and yellow.

I really liked this car at the age of 19 in 1984. I had inherited my father's 1600 L Cortina Mk3 1973 model the previous October. I test drove the GSL in 84'. It drove in a similar fashion to my aging Cortina, though felt much tighter on the road. I ended up holding on to the Cortina, chopping it in for a Fiat Uno in 86'. For those that had had a Cortina it was the obvious replacement choice.
The follow up to the rust prone Hyundai Pony hatchback. It wasn't much better. If you were on a budget, and couldn't afford anything else it was moderately OK if nothing special.
If there had to be a Mark 6 Cortina this was credible but it needed more than one engine. If I wanted the GSL with central locking, electric windows and automatic transmission I think I would want more than 74 bhp as well.

Interesting car and brochure, as Hyundai arrived here in Finland (first time) in 1990, so we didn't see these older cars.

Yes you would have a full range if it had been a Ford but this of course was way cheaper than a Sierra at this time - more like escort money.

My 2018 Hyundai i10 1.2 is 13 bhp more powerful than the Stellar.
No doubt - much more power from less these days.
