Mr. Todd Rundgren has been doing his thing for some years now. For me he never really seems to care about the mainstream. He followed his heart. No matter what the course. I just love it all. I feel he is an example of "REAL" when you have it and embrace it, "REAL".....can't be taken away....I so enjoy it !!!!!!!!
I have been on this planet for 64 years and I have NEVER seen a better concert...or a better example of the heights the rock and pop idiom can reach...absolutely mindblowing!!!
This man cast a spell on me 40 yrs. ago and I'm still in awe of his genius. He's talented, relevant, sexy and this concert is rockin' my world right now. Thanks to all the musicians and people that made this happen. Music is life!
I'm still watching this with awe. Pretending To Care is one of the powerful and emotional songs in history. We are not worthy Mr. Rock Messiah Todd Rundgren ❤
I'm beyond speechless, every time I listen to this concert I'm blown away by the quality of Todd's voice. his range tone and control, the sheer operatic quality of his voice at this age is beyond remarkable. Also if "pretending to care" doesn't break your heart... you're not human..
Todd's music lends itself better to a big orchestra than some I could mention. I've been a fan for many years and this is superb. Shoot me down in flames, but I hear a hint of Zappa here.
Thanks everyone for posting such wonderful comments. I read them all and it makes me really happy to know that so many people enjoy this and recognize how special this performance is. If you like this show (2012) then also check out the first (and similar) show from 2011 also in Amsterdam with the fabulous Metropole Orchestra. Details on the project website see URL above. We also have a page on Facebook: 'Todd Rundgren & The Metropole Orchestra' Again thanks everyone! Lion Keezer
Todd is my favorite artist. I've listened to most of them dozens of times. He took my friends and I on so many great trips. Initiation, Runt, The Ballad of Todd, Something/Anything, Wizard, Todd, Utopia Another Live ect. I had no idea that so many videos had been posted. I like this version better, yet both are good. He looks like he was having a blast and sounds great with the Orchestra. His voice is strong & clear, as when I saw Utopia live in Terre Haute in 1978 or 1979 on the RA tour. Combining so many cameras was genius. Lion Keezer did a superb job of editing. Thank you for reminding me of what a special performer he is. - Steven Pettinga-Indianapolis
I've watched this at least twice a year for 11 years, and have yet to make it through "Pretending To Care" without tearing up. Devastatingly beautiful and sad at the same time.
my video stuck? no moving flow? haha I got to hug him for 30 minutes trying to get my cell phone to work for a pic - he was so patient - 1st anniversary of my husband's death - I went alone - I didn't tell Todd - I was so happy, tho!! My life went on again from there - alone. Made it OK. We were at same hotel - I drank the mini bar down after, listened to him you tube and danced alone- and just was grateful and so thankful - so kind to hug me while waiting for pic - I needed a hug - 2011? I first saw him OKC 1969 maybe? We were both shocked by that lol great admiration - great guy
This is one BIG victory for Todd, one of therbest symphonic orchestras in the world: Unique this one: DVD Please? for al his fans in Holland ( and there's a lot)..still
I have only been exposed to his music on a larger scale..recently....and I am in my 40's..so i am now digging thru his material......I am still amazed...that one man could write Love is the answer....Bang a drum all day...Property...and countless other songs that are different styles...genres......produce many major acts....plays many instruments....he is a true genius..... that for some reason....does not get the recognition or credit he deserves.....Thanks to those who put this up to be shared with all...
Steve -- Two things to look up. FIRST -- Give Something/Anything a listen. On the first three sides, Todd plays every instrument and supplies every vocal that you hear. On side four, there are a dozen or so musicians in the studio, and they roll right through, recording every song, every spoken word, every mis-take, etc. By the end of the side, you feel like you were involved in the recording process. SECONDLY, listen to his song, "Something To Fall Back On." Listen to it once, then again, then again a third time. Then realize, it is a song recorded with no instruments. None. You SWEAR you can hear the snare, the bass, the lead and rhythm guitar parts, etc. But it's all vocals. Todd is a f-ing genius. I hope you come to love him and his music as most Todd fans have. I was fortunate top interview him, and have seen him 16 times in concert. Never a bad show. Good luck; let us know how you do!!
Yea...maybe that's part of the magic..of it....a lot of things that fly under the radar..can sometimes have that underground vibe.... I guess it goes back to how some people think if a band "makes" it...or crosses over...ie Metallica with the black album...there are other examples.....the music tends to loose something....or they "sold out" I don't necessarily think that is the case...but when you start making hit records....the record companies want more of the same....and then you can fall into a trap...creatively...musically.... The fact he really didn't care about being a "pop" star or sell himself out....he still is a Maverick with a very long active profitable music career....while many acts...die in the generation in which they became famous...he still soldiers on....
Hi Steve O, You will be busy for years of enjoyment if you want to explore all his many moods and genre. I was a "Todd Clod" growing up near the Sunset Strip catching so many great nights in the 70s, I was there the night they recorded Back To The Bars", a fun double album,(I'm dating myself with"album"in the 70s) but I consider myself lucky because you are right about him not really being mainstream. He even announced that if the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were to induct him, he would not accept.I hope that you stick with the journey, I stopped listening to him for a while and when I got online I had to catch up! Not to mention all the many bands he has produced, helping many talented people find their own voices. He is quite a crowd pleaser if you ever get a chance to see him live. He was always one of my favorite performers because he got the audience involved, singing great uplifting songs like Determination, or The Wheel of Karma, or Love is the Answer. Your comment is 7 months ago, I hope you are still listening and if not, I am happy to serve as a reminder!
The hallmark of a classic song is not only being able to hum it but taking a song like Hello, It's Me and getting an entire orchestra to play all those beautiful instruments. Rundgren has taken exceptional care of his voice and it shows!
this was in the theatre " PARADISO" in Amsterdam, unique place to perform, Todd with one of the best Philharmonic world wide. Todd a great singer and composer, on a level, you hartly will find with newcomers in todays music they should listen to this and learn! Todd is belonging to those rare "Architects of Music" like Frank Zappa was, so creative and unique, also great to see a professionall high class entertainer ! Moreover you openend my ears, did not know that my Dutchies had so good musicians, looking at Todd, he enjoyed very much Holland I suppose!
Thank you for sharing this performance with the listening world. My universe is a better place now. I watched it with my teenagers last night. My son said, dad you have a man-crush on Todd. I said yeah, for a very long time. Thank you Lion Keezer.
I lived in the Netherlands and I miss the Dutch, also such a great musician who never had a number one record or a Grammy. His music stands the test of time.
Grammy’s are political bullshit, he’s a top musician and song writer. I’ve seen him twice in his younger days and he was great, cares about his audiences.
I've come back to watch this a second and third time. Gawwd, is it ever great!! Thank you, Todd, and thank you to all these beautiful people in Holland.
This is the most beautiful concert my ears have ever been so fortunate to hear. I'm listening at work with tears in my eyes. My co-workers must think I'm possessed. In 2 months I'll be seeing Todd for the 33rd time. Life is good.
Thank you Todd Rundgren for sharing Your Love Of Music To The World All The Time.! When your Blessed With The Gift I Love The Way he has Fun Doing It.!!! 🇺🇸😊👍🏼
this man is divine and was always graced by a supernatural humanity from the very beginning. listening to him sing, struggle and triumph his way through "pretending to care" is a profound experience. may he never leave the planet.
I was so lucky to see him when I was 12 at Penn State with Utopia and the rest is history...lol....love how he is having fun and those 3 back up singers were amazing esp. with c still b friends at the end
This performance is so special. That rendition of "If I have to be Alone" - it's as if Aaron Copland visited Todd from the grave to inspire him to create this. I have always been affected by the spiritual tone of his material - sometimes the message is lyrical, sometimes it's the music itself. It never gets maudlin or cliche. And the Metropole can play anything and elaborate the vision. Pretty much perfect.
I keep coming back to this and The Ever Popular Tortured Artise Effect biography video. There is little else on the planet worthy of filling my mind and my heart. TRi ❤
SO wonderful! It's so strange that Todd actually never changes the way he truly is ,but he changes (to the positive) everyone and everything around him every time he performs. He's always been and will be forever be amazing.
I’ve been on a UA-cam Todd Rundgren binge for nearly a week now and this one is just outstanding out of so many great ones. Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen - Todd Rundgren is a musical genius. Hope to see him live again soon.
It's hard to rate the Metropole other than a great. Yes you can hire them Do that! Really (but you better be good). Yes, Todd's music is so very worthy, elegant and Tom Trapp's orchestration add to the mix but the superb players of the Metropole are still with us. Yes it may be the "Dutch national treasure" but it is ours' to understand, appreciate, support and to preserve. This was the second iteration of Runt's Met orchestral projects. He has many other ensemble projects and that's why a lot of us love him. He takes huge chances. Take chances. This is a pleasure to listen to.
This was wonderful! He sings so soulfully. Saw him last night as part of Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band and "Love is the Answer" was the highpoint of the night.
Saw the State Tour In Woodstock, going to the EGG in July and North Hampton in August. It's Kinda been like that with Todd since I was 16. Now that I'm kicking 50 in the ass, I still cant get enough of him. A Wizard a True Star. Nothing else to say!
Holy cats! That orchestrated version of Another Life was amazeballs! And that was just the tip of the iceberg. What an amazing set!! I’ve seen many Todd shows and I think this is the best one ever. I would lost it to be there in person. Thanks to everyone who made this possible!
An evening in 2021 with the Amazing Mr. Todd Rundgren...started with Hello it's me video from Midnight Special appearance, then Todd at Darryl's House and the grand finale, Amsterdam! Bravo!
Great performance! Todd continues to amaze and inspire! I have seen him perform live four times since around 2006, I believe, I have been a fan since, "Hello, it's me." and now own many albums and CD's. I must say seeing his shows live is always a great experience! Come back to Kansas City any time, we'll be waiting!
i was 12 (44 years ago) when i first hear Todd. I still love his music. Few artists or songs claim the same loyalty from me (Marvin Gaye, Robert Palmer, Stevie Wonder and his female doppleganger Alicia Keys).
IMO Todd Rundgren and Hall And Oates are probably some of the best musical talents our city {Philadelphia) has ever been lucky to share with the world .
Way beyond good. I truly enjoyed this unexpected turn of video surfing. Loved this dude since the 70's and amazed of the variety and quality of work he's provided and the fact that he's still in motion to this day. THANK YOU FOR THIS TREASURE. Also, thanks to Mr. Todd Rundgren.
Mr. Todd Rundgren has been doing his thing for some years now. For me he never really seems to care about the mainstream. He followed his heart. No matter what the course. I just love it all. the other amsterdam concert is much better its on here
One of the most underrated musicians ever. He is amazing always has been.
Yes, it is TRUE. Wish I was there.
Awesome musician and till this day he admits that he cannot read music.
yes
There are those among us who know and have always known - Todd is the real deal, there is no other...
Das right Stan da man!!
This man cast a spell on me 40 yrs. ago and I'm still in awe of his genius. He's talented, relevant, sexy and this concert is rockin' my world right now. Thanks to all the musicians and people that made this happen. Music is life!

Well said. I’ve been on a Todd Rundgren UA-cam binge for nearly a week now - this one’s a gem.
Been a Todd Rundgren fan for 45 years.

Todd Rundgren can sing the fucking phone book! He is so great and his songs are poetry on paper and when translated, music to the ears of the world.
+austin teutsch Well said. I couldn't agree more. Great Comment.
special. so special.
Todd's music lends itself better to a big orchestra than some I could mention. I've been a fan for many years and this is superb. Shoot me down in flames, but I hear a hint of Zappa here.
Yes a little Frank in there👍

The 2011 performance is my favorite ever...
Bless your heart for all your work. I didn't know about this. Cheers.

Yep, been a fan for 50 years.
BLOWN AWAY! PRETENDING TO CARE REDUCED ME TO TEARS!

How many people will never see or understand this? It is so complex and beautiful.
This is one BIG victory for Todd, one of therbest symphonic orchestras in the world: Unique this one: DVD Please? for al his fans in Holland ( and there's a lot)..still
Todd Rundgren is so true to himself...He is a mega-star in his own right...a classic artist...love him & his music...
This has to be one of my favourite Todd Rundgren performances ever. Some of the songs reduce me to tears. Unbelievably brilliant.
Probably the greatest performance ever recorded.
Why doesn't this have a million views? Genius pure and simple.

I can't tell you how much this is blowing my mind right now!
Absolutely loving the format.. Such a great idea.. Can't get enough Todd what a voice what a master of songwriting. Such a gift.
Every single time I watch this my mind is blown.
One of the greatest nights of my life.
You were there Eliot? WTF didn't I know that? Happy as hell for you!
One of Todd's lesser known classics, "Fade Away". Beautiful song 40 years ago, still some of the most beautiful lyrics ever written. Thanks Todd!
One of my favorite love songs.
'Hermit of Mink Hollows' was an inspired/inspiring album....
Eileen Potocnak Arnold cccccc
Absolutely! just a flat out beautiful toon
The hallmark of a classic song is not only being able to hum it but taking a song like Hello, It's Me and getting an entire orchestra to play all those beautiful instruments. Rundgren has taken exceptional care of his voice and it shows!
Been following this guy since 1968 when he started n Nazz great arrangements and he raised Steven Tyler's daughter.hello from New Orleans area
The very Great Todd Rundgren! Who can ever miss this I can't understand!? So just go for it! Rock on!!
Oh Todd, you are...A wizard a True Star...
this was in the theatre " PARADISO" in Amsterdam, unique place to perform, Todd with one of the best Philharmonic world wide.

Great musician, great orchestra. I love the way the Dutch embrace the Arts.

Todd Rundgren is the best musical artist ever.
Todd is our national treasure. Watching and hearing Todd with this Orchestra is pure beauty. Thank you Todd fans for putting this together.
Pretending to Care is one of the finest songs ever.
Thank you for sharing this performance with the listening world. My universe is a better place now. I watched it with my teenagers last night. My son said, dad you have a man-crush on Todd. I said yeah, for a very long time. Thank you Lion Keezer.
😆🤙
This was spectacular. I found it by accident on Facebook, and now this is the only thing I want to listen to. Todd is God, and Amsterdam is Heaven.

This kind of talent does not come by very often. If "Pretending To Care" does not make you tear up, nothing will...;)
This is the most beautiful concert my ears have ever been so fortunate to hear. I'm listening at work with tears in my eyes. My co-workers must think I'm possessed. In 2 months I'll be seeing Todd for the 33rd time. Life is good.

I was there when Hello, It's Me first hit the radio waves.!!! 1968 and not a moment too soon. And it never gets old. Thank you, TR
... great Artist, great Orchestra!
I always loved the original version of Wailing Wall, but this performance with piano, horn and orchestra is truly exceptional. Todd is Incredible !!
Been a Todd fan for 40 plus years. Thank you Lion Keezer. This is a very special gift.
He knows how to be a showman, yet a proper gentleman for serious music.
For me, it's since Hello It's Me, 1968 Nazz.
Hey Todd I've stayed up late too many times listening to you Good night and thanks...
😆🤙
Todd never ceases to blow my mind!! I have a new explosive perspective on the Metropole Orchestra of Amsterdam!!
I feel the same way!
This performance is so special. That rendition of "If I have to be Alone" - it's as if Aaron Copland visited Todd from the grave to inspire him to create this. What you said!
I can't believe no one's made a comment in 3 years. This concert so outrageously fantastic!
I listen to it alot. Great even in a long salt bath.
Hey - it’s excellent!
I keep coming back to this and The Ever Popular Tortured Artise Effect biography video. There is little else on the planet worthy of filling my mind and my heart. TRi ❤
What a Singer.....There aren't that many Singers whom sound so Deep and full....all the way Up.....!!!
SORROW bow...friends of others.. I always cry..
Love it!
Jesus Christ, it's already 5 years ago. I do still remember this concert as one of my favorites, that is. Well, isn't it about time..?
SO wonderful! It's so strange that Todd actually never changes the way he truly is ,but he changes (to the positive) everyone and everything around him every time he performs. He's always been and will be forever be amazing.
There are no words, moved me to tears in spots. What a gift he and his music are so happy you shared.
I’ve been on a UA-cam Todd Rundgren binge for nearly a week now and this one is just outstanding out of so many great ones. Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen - Todd Rundgren is a musical genius. Hope to see him live again soon.
Lots of work went into this.. great job.. fantastic.

I'm stumped for words. This is mind blowing.
Majestic.
My Lawd WHAT A PERFORMANCE. NEVER HEARD ANYTHING LIKE IT
Todd loves this kind of forum! He loves the theatrical forum too, but this is definitely answer to prayers
I love life with todd in it! He is the man!
Life is so much better with Todd in it! You're so right about that! 🤙
So great!!No words..love Todd,love tunes,love arrangements.Wow!!!
This was wonderful! He sings so soulfully. Saw him last night as part of Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band and "Love is the Answer" was the highpoint of the night.
Hans on piano, Mathilde Sandling vocals. Wow. "we will watch it fade away". WOW!
We Love Todd because he Loves Us!

Most stellar orchestra and band
Todd is the Best from Nazz to Now A Wizzard. A True ⭐️ We Love Here in Dallas Texas, 👍👍👍👍👍
I'm speechless. YES, Todd is Godd !! The greatest thing I've ever seen. And I've seen him live 30-some times. Peace.

Beautiful Fender Telecaster Todd
i was 12 (44 years ago) when i first hear Todd. I still love his music. Few artists or songs claim the same loyalty from me (Marvin Gaye, Robert Palmer, Stevie Wonder and his female doppleganger Alicia Keys).
Can't believe I haven't seen this! Maestro Todd!!
IMO Todd Rundgren and Hall And Oates are probably some of the best musical talents our city {Philadelphia) has ever been lucky to share with the world
.
Todd still has an amazing vocal range.Great concert!!
In 1974 i bought and played all his records. Great music!
You still have all of his albums? I have most of them. I'm missing a couple..
