In my life I have had to work with the Costers, Platers, Etta James and the Drifters. It was a great ride but I must confess, when i listen to this consort, "I can't feel the ground under my feet" He lifts me up.
It's crazy how often I rewatch this. It's the best anxiety-reducing music I've found. It always puts me in a better head space. Gregory Porter is a master.
The goodness in all people all around the world is put into the lyrics and music of Gregory Porter, all from the heart. His fame is not only because of his talent; fans love his work because his work touches what everyone wants life to be on this Earth, but just can't achieve. So listening to him is a sweet sadness and joy bringing tears of joy and sadness to each and every one of us who connect with the desire, the thought, the feeling, the need to make a connection with life as it was meant to be. Peace.
I just discovered his live performances, and I am amazed, if I get the chance to see him live, I will certainly go. You made a beautiful comment by the way.
I was a co-worker this weekend at cactusfestival in Bruges where he performed. I had the privilege to shake his handat the backstage and tell him how much I appreciated his concert. A very kind and warm person with an amazing talent. One of the best concerts I've ever seen !!
God, in His infinite wisdom sends angels to earth to remind us to turn our eyes and ears to higher Things. Gregory Porter is one of those special gifts sent to us to touch our hearts and bring joyful tears to our eyes. I pray That God Bless him at every turn.
Gregory Porter is a throw-back to the jazz era when we had great singers. A friend gave me his first album and I fell in love with Gregory singing. I look forward to more great music from him.
from my very own hometown of bakersfield ca. we're so proud of you my brother. please honor us with a local performance.we want to embrace your brilliance...
After you listen to music like this.....don’t you just want to go out in the world...and throw rose petals around and love everybody? Tell the truth!!!!!!
I absolutely agree with your assessment. This music has made me feel love, hope and peace… This is as close to perfection as a music set can get! Gregory Porter is Simply, Simply Sublime!
Gregory Porter is amazing! The orchestra is so superb! They make great team! I watch this concert 20 times, and I'll watch it a 1000 times again. I love good music. Not factory music but that music that remind you of that old great wine. Go head Gregory Porter! Go head!
116 dislikes? FOR REAL? This is one of the best performances online... no fake Autotune BS, no dancing needed, pure soul, passion, and ARTISTRY at it's best.
+Trent Austin Look man some folks like fake autotunes... they become distraught when they realise that there is no ass shaking and woob woob bases and autotunes... thats the way it is, just live with it :)
It could be poeple who don't like jazz or poeple who think that having this video on the site would be bad, because it potentialy steals money of the channel NTR by showing their content and not giving any money to them
By the time he got to the song "1960 What" I had chills running down my spine. Wow this entire concert was flawless. No doubt Gregory Porter is one of the Jazz greats and by the just the perfection of this performance he sure enough earned it.
+Carl Lowery Yes! When you hear so many of Porter's songs, you think they are classics he's covered - then you realize most of his songs are NEW CLASSICS he's written himself and sung - all the more amazing! Peerless talent.
+Dozer LA Exactly. All his songs aren't standards but instead are originals written by HIM! This guy is the new gold standard in music, as far as I'm concerned.
This man is a complete monster. He is one of greatest to ever touch a microphone. One my all- time favorites and I grew up around some of the greatest to ever sing. Hats off to you, my brother!
He claims that his bout with pneumonia as a child altered his voice and gave him his current tone. Glad he got through that illness, and I thank God his voice altered.
I have been a music fan for over sixty years , hardly ever comes a talent that encompasses the art like Gregory Hope I can see hom in concert before I m gone!
A mother who's life lifted up me....that was my mother. This song has so much emotion for me, and I can tell by the way Gregory performed this song, that it was emotional for him also. Great talent!!!
Did have the honor to hear him with the Metropole Orchestra in Munich, Tollwood Festival just yesterday. I guess this was the very best concert i heard for years. Greg is a singer of extraordinary quality with a wonderful stage presence. Also the Orchestra is playing on such a high level that i wished they would play all night through. This is real music, these are real musicians. God thanks for this evening, i´ll never forget it. Thank you Greg for your voice and for your songs!
+KlaRa474 I would pay with my "eye teeth" to have been at the concert rehearsal. I just saw Gregory Porter at Carnegie Hall/nyc 2 weeks ago at a Bill Wither's tribute. He was terrific... duetted with Valerie Simpson on one song...and took over the microphone on the final song. Whew!
The Metropole Orkest's home base is in Hilversum, The Netherlands, but that does not take away from them being the world's best jazz and pop orchestra (orchestra meaning symphonic sections plus a jazz big band)
I have seen Gregory two times, once at the Hollywood Bowl and his voice is a gift from God. His songs are so uplifting and he is the future of jazz and hopefully young people will be inspired by him. Thanks Gregory!!
Magic. I have watched this video innumerable times. Gregory is a joy to behold... and... the band and arrangements are sublime. This is one of those perfect nights when everything "clicks" and everyone is performing at their best. Fantastic.
Mike P my eyes teared up to such beauty and I’m a percussionist myself.. 1960 what? I’ve heard this cut added to a deep house track ... WICKED! But I never knew who it was until today.. just now.
Track list: 1. Painted On Canvas (Porter) 2. On My Way To Harlem (Porter) 3. Be Good (Porter) 4. Imitation Of Life (Webster & Fain) 5. The Work Song (Adderley & Brown) 6. Mother's Song (Porter) 7. 1960 What (Porter)
Just discovered this concert and have to say I loved every minute. The enthusiasm and appreciation of the audience, along with this amazing orchestra and of course the sublime Gregory Porter. An absolute treat to watch and listen to. Thankyou to all the musicians and to Mr Porter. Hope I will one day get to see you live 💛✨💛✨💛✨
Since 2919, I have been watching this live episode of Gregory. What I do not understand is that I kept coming back to rewatch it. "1960, what" will always get me nodding my head and tap my feet. When I am all alone, I even clap and sing along. I love this!
I've been a big fan of Gregory Porter ever since his debut "Water" several years back, and so happy this concert was uploaded: it's simply fantastic, amazing, astonishing - his vocals, the tone, the phrasing, the warmth, the color, the sheer joy of performance - WOW!
thanks for sharing this performance. I think I have all of his cds but I can tell that this concert was awesome. Listen to the joy in his voice. Thanks again.
Set List: 1. 0:47 Painted On Canvas (Porter) 2. 6:00 On My Way To Harlem (Porter) 3. 13:28 Be Good (Porter) 4. 19:59 Imitation Of Life (Webster & Fain) 5. 23:20 The Work Song (Adderley & Brown) 6. 29:46 Mother's Song (Porter) 7. 37:07 1960 What (Porter) I had the pleasure of seeing him live @Bluesfest '17. I am so excited about being able to see and hear Mr. Porter, a magical man voice perform in Houston Texas in September 2021. I can hardly contain the joy and delight within me of a great performance. A dear friend and I are traveling to Houston from Colorado to hear this magnificent Jazz singer and performer at the Arena Theater. What a great way and a golden opportunity to have a girls get away and have some great fun at a concert in another state!
This is just an amazing orchestra playing the most wonderful music. All the greats of jazz have performed with the Metropole from Stan Getz to Mark Murphy, Phil Woods to Clare Fischer, Bud Shank to Clarke Terry, Peter King to Bill Evans, Lee Konitz to Bob Brookmeyer and dozens more. They all loved the experience many returned time and time again. The BBC shed its Concert Orchestra on cost grounds and denied us the joy of sounds like this. Thank you to Dutch Radio at Hilversum for carrying on supporting this orchestra and the arrangers like Rob Pronk and Dolf Van der Linden, under the most difficult of circumstances. We need this music for our souls.
Not to be too nitpicky, but that's actually a flugelhorn, which is generally considered to be a little bit more like a trumpet than a french horn. Some might say that it is halfway "between" a trumpet and french horn. It is a really nice bit of collective improv for sure!
I was Blessed to catch Mr. Porter on the radio, it was just near the end of his song I never heard before but his voice was unforgettable that I refuse to change the station in hope it would play again & I could hear who he was & the name of the song. Simply BEAUTIFUL, I am hoping to go to his performance soon.
So very perfect! Perhaps my favorite performance on the tube. Won’t say how many times I have it on repeat! The Metropole Orchestra is simply the best there is. The talent oozing from every member is completely breathtaking. Who else better to compliment and bring out the talents of the incomparable Gregory Porter! Simply a match made in heaven!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥
This is by far the best live concert I have ever seen and heard. I was just recently turned on to Gregory Porter. What a voice! The accompanying orchestra is incredible. You're missing one of God's blessings by not watching this video.
jazz is from old african word "jassie" and means the SOUL of a man... and Gregory means that.... beautiful, thanks for posting this extraordinary concert of extraortinary JAZZ man
Sorry. beautifully said but incorrect. Jazz is from the oral stories of the native Aborigines. oldest forms found in Louisiana. Sound of the earliest form is the "Blues".
To hear and view this tonight is a blessing for me, my first time checking this Brother out GREAT, and with the Metropole Orchestra just perfect. Thank you for this post.
I've heard these arrangements with other orchestras he's played with and this is by far the most soulful, and best orchestra ever. It's hard to made Gregory Porter look bad, but this orchestra manages to elevate his performance. I'm already a Gregory Porter Fan and now a Metropole Orchestra fan. now.
Jan. 9th 2021, 12:30 am. In the midst of a pandemic and major social unrest in the USA WE HAVE A MAN OF THE WORLD bringing a smidgin of love and peace. I say thank you Gregory Porter. Much obliged!
soooooo refreshing to hear this kind of gift....and a clean artist, shooting straight from the heart. just got turned on to him by my son. can't get enough. could not sleep so at 3 o'clock am I'm up listening to gregory.
I have only been introduced to Mr. Gregory Porter and I can't stop listening. His sound is clean and clear. The lyrics of his songs are simply beautiful. I am a fan!!!
I play and watch this video over and over. Absolutely soul stirring performances both by Gregory Porter and the Metropole Orchestra. I cannot get enough! I have purchased my ticket for the Hollywood Bowl, August 6th in Los Angeles. Sitting on pins and needles.
Gregory - Bravo. You are a legend. Your delivery is so great, no gimmicks just pure talent and a voice from heaven. Orchest. Metropole -what a magnificent orchestra. The trumpet, sax and trombone solos blew me away and the guitarist -wow!!!!!. This orchestra specialise in popular music. Another one to see is Trijntje Oosterhuis with the orchestra doing a programme of Burt Bacharrach songs. Equally wonderful by a woman who sings Bacharrach better than anyone ever did or will ever do.....
He is a life-changing artist. I now compare everyone to his depth and beauty. My day is not complete without revisiting this concert. Thank you so much for sharing it.
HO. LY. SWEET JE. SUS. How have I missed this artist in my life?!?!?! Mr. Porter you are a revelation. And thank you Metropole Orchestra for swinging with him. What a glorious experience it must have been.
I love you Gregory Porter. My soul stirs when I listen to you sing. It's kind of like sliced bread, the best. I listen to this particular concert over and over because my daily bread is eaten right along side with this heavenly annointed man. This orchestra has one of the best brass sections that can keep company with the late James Brown's band. The trombone solos were off the charts.😁😁 Thanks for sharing your gifts with us.
Last week was the first time I had ever heard of this man. They played a duet called "insanity" on the radio and I was IMMEDIATELY transfixed! I've been listening to him all day!
Now I am sure: on a planet with seven billion people going about their business, this must have been the most profound and beautiful happening at that very moment in 2012! How else can it be? Think about it, this is cosmic!!
This is really really amazing... I'm glad I just happened to bump into this video. Not only is Gregory his usual perfect self but the orchestra behind him as well is phenomenal!

"Mother's Song" is a tear-jerker. Mr. Porter, with the Metropole Orchestra, is astonishing.
Oh man I cry… for my momma

I can listen to this performance every day! I love Gregory Porter and that Orchestra. I 'm so glad I found him! He makes my day. Thank you..
When music is pure and genuine, it creates an ambiance that speaks it own language without words! Simply beautiful....
Don't know how many times I've watched this....what vocal finesse......and the orchestra who show you that they are enjoying what they are doing!
“WOW”
How wonderful is Mr. Porter’s voice. This orchestra is so fine. This is my go to music every night.

The above statement expresses my sentiment exactly! Great music seldom heard these days. Love it!
Marcus Webb. Well said!!!
Amazing -- when you can tell the orchestra is loving it!

I can only imagine it is a thumb down for the audio. Could be sharper. Still grateful for the upload. He is amazing (and so is the orchestra).
They have dyslexia, and always folks who purposely post negative just to help their ownself
It could be poeple who don't like jazz or poeple who think that having this video on the site would be bad, because it potentialy steals money of the channel NTR by showing their content and not giving any money to them
Metropole Orchestra is Fire! My favorite orchestra bar none. Brilliant!
I was really moved by a truly great performance. This should be made into a live album. It would sell well over a million copies.
By the time he got to the song "1960 What" I had chills running down my spine. Wow this entire concert was flawless. No doubt Gregory Porter is one of the Jazz greats and by the just the perfection of this performance he sure enough earned it.
Thomas Patterson HE is a beast of a writer and singer....
+Thomas Patterson The recording is very solid, as well ... didn't expect that for a live recording on You-Tube.
+Thomas Patterson I call Gregory the Voice of the Millennium!!! chills all over..23:00 ff
+Carl Lowery Yes! When you hear so many of Porter's songs, you think they are classics he's covered - then you realize most of his songs are NEW CLASSICS he's written himself and sung - all the more amazing! Peerless talent.

Gregory Porter has the happiest face I have ever seen.... I love him
Loving Gregory Porter's vocals but this orchestra is mind blowing indeed!
So proud, our dutch metropole
This man is a complete monster. He is one of greatest to ever touch a microphone. One my all- time favorites and I grew up around some of the greatest to ever sing. Hats off to you, my brother!
HA! Great comment Lorenzo.
He is the greatest jazz, blue singer...very spiritual ....I love everything he does..his voice...the words..keep that spirit growing...
possessed by the ghosts
He claims that his bout with pneumonia as a child altered his voice and gave him his current tone. Glad he got through that illness, and I thank God his voice altered.
I have been a music fan for over sixty years , hardly ever comes a talent that encompasses the art like Gregory
Hope I can see hom in concert before I m gone!
This man is a genius. I saw him in Charlotte NC a little while back. He is a true artist. His voice is just as good if not better LIVE.
A mother who's life lifted up me....that was my mother. This song has so much emotion for me, and I can tell by the way Gregory performed this song, that it was emotional for him also. Great talent!!!
A beautiful composition!!!!!
Name of song please
His voice and spirit nourishes my soul and gives me hope for this world. What an amazing gift. Thank you, Mr. Porter!
doesn't get any better than this. just amazing moving music.
Whew!
So good, exquisite. The Metropole orchestra is fantastic! A voice like Gregory Porter's comes along once in a generation.
Who knew! I thought I knew all The jazz greats but this leaves me ... and Amsterdam's Metropole Orchestra is outstanding with Gregory Porter. Bravo!
The Metropole Orkest's home base is in Hilversum, The Netherlands, but that does not take away from them being the world's best jazz and pop orchestra (orchestra meaning symphonic sections plus a jazz big band)

What a brilliant performance by Gregory and the orchestra. Gregory never disappoints.

he makes my heart sing * thank You Gregory for sharing your love *

Power and on the money, One of the best. Very moving. The messages he sings are very deep. Good work and a great orchestra.
Gregory Porter is magnificent. And I love the flick of music sheet 8:21 from the Conductor. Wow on Sax then trumpet. When you got soul you soul...
Glad to have found Mr. Porter and his voice. This concert is marvelous.

Vonnie C Yes Indeed!
This MAN Sings His Songs With The Soul Of Our Divine Creator Amazingly, Smoothly Beautifully!... Truthfully Filled With Love Thankyou!
Люблю этот голос, разнообразие, азарт, эксперименты в музыкальных стилях, ремиксы, позитив, драйв! Грегори лучший! Хочу попасть на концерт )))
Fantastic concert from Mr Porter. One of the great voices of our time.
oh boy can this guy sing.absolute class.a breath of fresh air.many thanks.
HO. LY. SWEET JE.
The trombone solos were off the charts.😁😁
Thanks for sharing your gifts with us.
I'm hooked on Gregory Porter…for about a week now! OMG!
He is now my FAVORITE new vocalist of the year. LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Last week was the first time I had ever heard of this man. They played a duet called "insanity" on the radio and I was IMMEDIATELY transfixed! I've been listening to him all day!
The metrópole y gregory.gran show.mil gracias!!!!! Hermoso!¡!!
Now I am sure: on a planet with seven billion people going about their business, this must have been the most profound and beautiful happening at that very moment in 2012! How else can it be? Think about it, this is cosmic!!
1960 What Trumpet Soloist was going off!!! I absolutely love Porter and the Metropole Orchestra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the upload
