Hey Luke, that inflator works as a fantastic fire bellows. Makes getting a fire going even when a bit damp, easy. I won't go backpacking without it.

Isn't that one of the Flextailgear pumps? I have a similar one that I got and started using a few months ago. They're great, if you know how to keep it powered up! Took me a little trial and error to find the USB port on my computer to plug it in. LOL

I have the same inflator(and deflator). That thing on top of it is for deflating. I use it to vacuum seal my jackets so it will not take too much space on my backpack. Then the inflator for my pillow and bed. That thing makes my camping more comfortable yet light weight.

@10:24, that adjustable loop is a form of eye splice, typically this style is seen on dyneema kite lines, and Amsteel (also dyneema) sailing lines, but usually the adjustable end is inside the main weave and not adjustable. You can make your own from videos on UA-cam.

It looks like a Whoopie Sling, and the buried part looks kinda short IMO, but maybe it was the filming angle.

    • @sonnyboywannabe
      @sonnyboywannabe 2 роки тому +6

@@mikekraut7643 it IS a whoopie sling. But it derives from a sailing eye splice. Whoopie is either a later trade name or just what climbers/hammockers call it

We live in Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 , the home of Carnival. I agree that people needs to be more courteous in this world today, but my mother had a saying "manners make a man". i hate whoopie slings. i have them on my WBXLC hammock and i cant seem to get them super tight. when they are tight you need 3 hands to get them any tighter. its like the slack wont pull through the berry, i have to move the berry to tighten. i know that probably doesnt make sense, but oh well.

Hey Luke, Great review and I look forward to more of them on the Haven Tent. I have the XL. I am returning it because the bug net ripped away from the seams at the ends of the zipper, where they connect. The customer support with Haven has been extremly helpful. They love the feed back and want to hear from folks on how to improve their system. I have since then bought the "standard" version as the system is very much dependent on the size and stature of the person using it. I stand 5'10" and weigh in at 220. When I tested my Haven tent, the middle of the sleeping matress kept wanting to fold in, creating a trough that I would slip into. After discussions with the Haven support team, we agreed that I have the wrong size for myself. So the XL for me didn't work. I'd love to see your review of this tent as a "ground" setup and how it will perform in a rain storm and heavy winds over 15mph. I love the channel, keep it going.

Photography will change one’s perception of the world. It seems most people are just passing through the world without really looking at it. But with a camera, I find myself looking for a good angle or background. This old world takes on a completely different look. When your looking for beauty.

Alas Babylon is my favorite book. I read it for the first time BLB (before Luke's birth) and have read it so many times - my first copy was held together by a rubber band. I have gone through several copies since then. To this day, I refuse to own an electric can opener and only use a manual one, have to have major containers of salt and sugar, and keep a large supply of needles and thread. I live in Central Florida and have always felt this is where Pat Frank found his Fort Repose. Fascinating read - almost as interesting as your videos. Thank you so very much for sharing.

The pictures of the moon are insane!!! I have had the Haven for about 2.5 years, I was one of the original Kick Starter supporters. I have slept better in this tent hammock than any other. You do sacrifice weight but I'm not an ultra light hiker, so for me its worth it. One time i did forget the tree straps on a hike at Linville Gorge and had to rig it up with only paracord, it was a little sketchy but got the job done.

Absolutely love the haven. I have used it for 2 years now. I made a modification sewing a strap under the head-end. This gives me the possibility to raise the end as a recliner. Awsome. The pad tends to let some air out over time and I have heard others say the same. Keep the pump or the pump-bag close by and it will be no problem. I also have the Amok hammock but I find this to be somewhat unstable and it is a game of high risk in wintertime 😅

Love the music at 19:50 and on.. nice relaxing touch.. I agree about the courtesy and writing more than a sentence to people.. I’ll never understand how people write one word responses to texts or emails. Nothing pisses me off more.

Mid 70's in Miami is a cold front in May. I sleep comfortably 3 seasons in my Bliss ventilated (banana-style) $25 hammock & $7 tarp, no flood problem even in rainy season at the shore. Camou tarp above has a $1 emergency blanket stitched beneath, keeps heat/rain off. In winter chill, I switch to a tent, but backaches in the morn. No 2-way zips on that Haven flat hammock is nuts.

Im glad you took us along. I use a hammock and hadn't looked at this type of hang before. I too am a side sleeper but seem to be able to sleep well in a conventional hammock. That 8lb could be reduced by replacing the Tarp/ Rain Fly but that wouldn't reduce the weight much. The Pad Inflator was cool. Loved the photos you shared. The Moon and Mountains looked amazing. Thanks again Luke, can't wait to see where you go next.

So nice to see you relaxing, even while reviewing gear! Yes you should do more shooting! Those photos were decidedly well done! Would love to see more! I like to shoot too, but have never sprung for the really serious equipment. Nature photography is my favorite. I have just gotten a hammock set up and was all excited to camp with friends in it when the trip got cancelled because of storms. Will have to set up in my back yard overnight one of these nights!

I am intrigued with 4 season hammock tents. I like being able to pick and choose separate parts to create a complete package. Being able to select a hammock, under blanket, inside gear hammocks and over tarp for whatever season or environment I plan for. I like setting up the same hammock as an easy chair under an open tarp for air flow then rearranging to a comfy bed with tarp tied down for heavy weather. All above ground. Then being able to swap out and clean parts or replace worn parts for the next trip. Sleeping flat in a hammock takes some practice but doable.

Great photos, Luke! I like what you stated about current day communications regarding courtesy. In regards to the Haven tent I am looking to add the XL version due to the 24 inch width on your version. I am a van lifer and when boondocking I set up my military surplus hammock using the roof rack on one end and a wooden staff I made from a downed tree in my yard while living in Virginia. The staff is secured with three guy lines. It's comfortable for naps but I usually sleep in the van when it is too warm or too cold. I love watching your road trips and learn something each episode. I rigged a Gas One stove in the van and that's been a boost to my quick mobility in not having to set up anything outside the van including an awning, especially on windy and rainy days.

How I enjoy these videos of yours! I have some gear testing to do myself this summer: A Fauna T3 tent and a ENO Skylite hammock. And of course there's gonna be a lot of cooking and coffee making over an open fire (the best sort). Your photos of the moon... Man! So good! Wow! Thank you for sharing your photos with us! All the best to you, Luke!

Cool beans on the Haven, I purchased one this year the XL camo just have not used it yet but soon. They are local company here in Utah and have followed them since their start. So thank you for a start of review with it! Can’t wait for your further review on it! The tarp is very interesting I can understand the thought beside it. Thank you that was another fantastic video!!!!

im sorry to hear that. i would recommend trying out Lions Mane mushrooms which are legal and they have a range of amazing benefits like literally repairing the brain. magic mushrooms have been known to do the same, but of course they are illegal and many people are afraid to delve into their inner self. micro dosing them has amazing benefits though and you dont feel high or anything.
if i was you id listen to the "paul staments joe rogan podcast" he is a mycologist that is an expert on this stuff.

@BIG GOV have been using Lions Mane for some time now along with shiitake, miitake, wild lettuce and others. Have a Navy friend that started growing them and creating tinctures. Far better than meds. Thanks for the advise.

The force protection tarp is a sunshade designed to be set up from vehicles as well any way imaginable. I used one on our last trip to add shade to the tent we were using which was a marine issued Eureka combat two man tent. I have several of those tarp two the size you have there as well as two of a different size and they can be all hooked together to make one massive size tarp. They work great in the desert. There is also a a kit that includes poles and guy lines. The tarp has two seperated layers that act as a insulation and protects you from the heat as well as the cold

Hi Luke, love your videos. Enjoy your story telling style and cool music. I'm late to the party here but a couple of comments, hope you see them. Glad you mentioned about pressure treated wood. Freeze dried food gets a longer shelf life partly from a lack of fats. So if you add in a compatible oil or fat you can make most meals tastier. Toasted sesame oil for oriental style, olive oil for Italian, bacon for southwest. Also some favorite spices are nice to have. Thanks for the reviews. Strength and honor, grayfox.

Les Stroud (Survivorman) was the pioneer of the filming yourself with commercial gearand he talks about it in some of his director's commentaries. Can double or triple the amount of time to do simple tasks. Imagine when you add in things like canoeing, floating on a raft or dog sledding and you have to go back. It is a nice change from the traditional documentaries with film crews on-site.

Great video Luke! Thanks for sharing!! Being a stomach/side sleeper, I have tried hammock camping. I got my hammock dialed in with the correct hammock ridgeline and with a diagonal lay, I can ALMOST sleep flat. I have a complete set up; Hammock with woopie slings and straps with marlin spike hitch, top quilt, under quilt, and tarp. I have to say, with my complete hammock set up, I still enjoy my tent better. Setup time is about the same, and weight wise, about the same. I just like my tent better. Every now and then, Ill get a wild hair, and take my hammock, but 90% of the time, I take my single person River Country Trekker.

I was the same as you, only couldn't get a good sleep In a traditional gathered end hammock as I'm just too much of a stomach sleeper. The Haven saved my hammock dreams. The only tent I've used since getting my second Haven is my hot tent for winter.
