  • I really need this night cat flat lay hammock tent out with me this weekend. it's always better to test your new camping equipment before taking it out just in case something is wrong or missing.
The night cat flat lay hammock isn't just a hammock ! this hammock can also be used as a hooped bivvi tent as well.
Amazon affiliation link below for the night cat flat lay.

Your best putting the button straps lower and swapping them around the tree twice stops the hammock rolling about. I’ve got the same hammock took awhile to get used to it 👍🏻

Nothing worse than having a bit missing, or forgetting your cup or fork or something 😂... But your absolutely right always check and just learn how to put a new tent or hammock first

I think just a tarp over the whole thing would be less claustrophobic, Dan.
And you get to see more wildlife, too.

If you look at the pics on their website or any of the review videos you will notice the straps that are used for the purpose of stabilising the base are meant to be angled downward at a 45 degree angle. I also think you set it up slightly higher off the ground than it needs to be. Like many others, had visions of you tipping out.

Yes, this was my thought. I would also run a ridgeline tied to the top of the hoops . A bigger separate fly would be better for me, but the Nightcat tarp might be better in cold weather.

It certainly has a better logo than the original, not a bad bit of kit. The storage underneath is a good idea. Look forward to your camping trip to see how you do! Stay safe Dan atvb 👍🦊

Hey mate, totally unrelated to the video but just wanted to say that watching your videos inspired me to start my own channel making outdoorsy videos. I had an old gaming channel with 37k subs that was super focused on extreme fast paced editing for retention, and found myself getting really hyperfixated on editing for what I thought people wanted to see rather than what I actually wanted to create. But the slow (in a good way!), chilled out vibe of your videos was an absolute breath of fresh air and seeing that you were able to build an audience out of it was incredible. I mean, duh, I love your videos and style. So now I've started afresh with slower paced chilled out outdoors focused vids and it's been extremely liberating breaking away from the "to the beat" retention style of editing I used to do.
Thank you for everything you do!!

Looks like a lot of setup tine needed for hammock camping whether you have this flat version or even a regular banana version. I think hammock camping is only really good for uneven terrain because generally you need to carry more kit than just a tent setup.

I like the look of this hammock, I’m in the market for a new one. The only downside in my opinion I feel it would be very inclosed, where I prefer using a tarp so it’s more open, but I can see I don’t have to use the rain cover in this configuration so I can still see it being a good hammock to consider. Great video as always Dan 👍🏻 all the best, Brian.

I always have extra ropes and carabiners. I took this out for the first time a few weeks ago with my dad and brother. I tied additional ropes on the left and right side of the hammock so it wouldn't rock. Worked, very, very well. Slept better too.

I agree ,I think using a regular tarp over the setup would be much better. Pretty neat hammock all in all . Also, I agree that it would be nice to have that extra storage in the interior of shelter , but the secondary hammock underneath to put your gear is at least better than just having in laying on the ground .

One of things I hate about hammocks is dealing with "the tarp", specially guying it out to the ground. I could see the benefit of this not having to put any pegs into the ground... specially as I found recently if the place is full of brambles and everything gets snagged.
Is the assumption here that you'd not use an under quilt since a pad would fit/sit better? It almost seems that gear hammock could be slightly insulated and pull up closer to the base (around the edges) to provide an air pocket/wind shield. Could probably be modified in with a bit of elastic cord along the edges.

Incorrect assembly of the lower straps, these should be wrapped once around the tree and then pulled tight, this gives more stability. You only put them around the tree without wrapping them around And the lower straps must be slightly beveled further down. I have seen so many YT tests and all of them have made many mistakes, and some right.
    Best Regards Mike from Germany

Seems a lot more complicated to set up and for a weight of 3.49kg I personally wouldn’t say it’s worth it. I could imagine how difficult it’d be to set this up in the wind and rain. You wouldn’t be able to dry off under anything like how you would using a tarp, it’s basically a heavy floating bivy bag and if you’re thinking just bring a tarp as well then it kind of defeats the purpose of buying this over a regular flat lay hammock. Great video though and enjoy your camp ! Also stating just this hammock alone ( 3.49kg ) is heavier than my whole hammock sleeping system (2.75kg) for hammock tarp sleeping bag and UQ

You also forgot to mention that it can also be used as a tent. 😊

  • @lauriebloggs8391
    @lauriebloggs8391 Місяць тому +1

Please don't take this the wrong way, but the set up of this hammock left a little to be desired for a solid comfortable, flat lay.........
Firstly, did you put in the spreader bars underneath? Or did I miss that?
Secondly, the daisy chain.....as you did, wrap it about head height, but try and wrap around the tree twice, so it gets a solid self tightening 360 deg grip? When done, shorten up the chain as much as possible.
The lower straps should go as LOW as posiible, so there is as much of an angle between upper and lower straps as possible. Also, again wrap around the tree twice if possible, this will help stabilize the hammock when tensioned. Tighten up evenly as much as you can.
The whole platform will be much more stable in all directions.....? Hope this helps and look forward to seeing how you get on with it? (as a fan!)
And yes, the tie backs are rubbish.....I moved mine inwards.....and the double entrance would be a great idea!
