    Italians don’t wear shorts unless at the beach. Although honestly, I say wear what you feel comfortable in and look like where you come from but if you visit the huge Catholic Cathedrals… cover your cleavage, shoulders and knees with a scarf or two if you have tank and shorts above knee on or just bring a lightweight caftan to throw over yourself before you walk in.I don’t know if people realize how important that is specially if you love Italy and are not particularly religious. Then use it as a beach cover up. I have one that fits in my purse like a huge scarf.
    I could think of packing for Italy forever! I agree a million times over. Do not overpack. You will carry that suitcase up a flight of stairs you never imagined could exist at one point in time. I will tell myself this too. Thank you!

      Good advice about churches. I think Americans don't realize it is disrespectful to go in without shoulders and knees covered...especially when it's so hot outside

    I’m heading to Italy tomorrow for three weeks so this is very timely. I’m going with just a not very big backpack. Here’s hoping I picked the right things. 😬

      I’m sure you’ll be fine. Even the smallest towns have stores where you can buy whatever you need and if not there, there will be a larger town nearby. Our house is outside a town of 5000 people and the stores are pretty comprehensive in what they carry, but if it’s not there, within 25 minutes there a two cities/towns with over 30,000 people. And certainly there are laundromats.
      Enjoy the trip! I bet you’ll return being glad you chose the backpack method. Ciao.

      @@traciannveno the trip was awesome! Loved Venice and Pisa the most. I packed the right amount-very little. My back pack was so light my husband kept offering to carry it😊

    Very helpful. Was on the fence about the cubes. But I see it's a must. Going for 9 days only carry on. Wish me luck. lol

      Thanks! Nine days from a carry on will be no problem. Of course, being a guy, Ed would tell you for 9 days you just need a medium backpack!

    Your video is excellent!! I agree with you on every item (except hairdryer) so I think you are brilliant. I also avoid black. It's refreshing to see another traveler omit black from the capsule, this is rare indeed. If I were you, I'd take the glass out of your background framed art, it has a pesky glare. You must love Italy. I will check out your other videos. Do you ever rent Vespas? We are big into scooter riding. It's a blast, and yes I am in my 60's.

      Thank you! Ooops didn’t I mention my pjs? I meant to-they were in there. I just take lightweight pants and tee that don’t take up much room. We haven’t rented Vespa’s yet but I want to (Ed is not as keen)

    • @OurBigItalianAdventure
      @OurBigItalianAdventure  4 місяці тому

      I put it in there but must have forgotten to mention it! I just take a lightweight pair of pajama pants and a tee as they don't take up too much room.

      Ti ringrazio. Spero di poter aiutare i viaggiatori, particolarmente le persone che non viaggiano frequentemente. Per molti di nostri osservatori, sarà il loro primo viaggio in Italia e hanno un po’ di paura.

    I just started this video and i already love this content. I lived in Naples, Italy for 3 years. You are not kidding about the small elevators!!!

      Do you miss Naples? We loved it when we went earlier this year.

    • @SimplyKatieWalks

      @OurBigItalianAdventure That's a hard question. I miss the way of life. I miss not being able to take day trips to Pompeii, Rome, and Capri. I miss my home. I won't go into what I don't miss because I'm sure you know. Except I will say, I don't miss the mosquitos!! My 2nd daughter was born there, so you can say we took the best home with us. Where is your favorite place in Italy?

    • @OurBigItalianAdventure
      @OurBigItalianAdventure  4 місяці тому +1

      @paisleyhunter Now, as you say, that’s a hard question. We have a house in Le Marche, so it’s on the list, particularly the town of Ascoli Piceno. Siena would be listed, too, along with Spoleto and Lucca. Of the cities, I think Torino, but Firenze is fun to visit, especially off-season. Two places I’m not very fond of are Cortona and Cinque Terre. I think both have become so overrun by tourists, especially American, that they’ve lost most of their charm. I blame Rick Steves and the book Under the Tuscan Sun. Amalfi was nice, but we were last there in 1989 when it wasn’t too overrun. It that same are I really like Paestum, but again, last there in 1989 and we were just about the only visitors.
