    This video works well for not just Uber but just anybody who wants to have good set of tools in their car for any situation and for just regular cleaning of their car interior.

    Damn that referral website is a slick idea. I just signed up for Uber today, and I'm already a nerd so I have chargers and phone mounts. The inverter idea is great, as is the aux cable. I was thinking of allowing passengers to synch with the bluetooth, but drunk people aren't figuring that shit out.

    Another good tip is to fit bespoke leatherette seat covers and to use rubber mats. This really reduces any concerns about soiling etc

    Add a few pumps of hand sanitizer to you soap and water solution. The hand sanitizer will help with stain and smell removal. the alcohol in the hand sanitizer works like dry cleaning solvent. I have been using this mixture for years in my car and it works extremely well.

    I would suggest putting a little vinegar in that soapy water because vinegar kills any scent and it's a disinfectant aaaand it's very cheap. I make my own cleaning solution with it and it works great. Some people are afraid of it because they fear the smell, I don't even pay it any attention anymore, besides it only lasts a few seconds and vinegar is oderless without using all those harmful chemicals.

    • @america1403
      @america1403 7 років тому +8

      Vinegar does not kill germs, viruses or bacteria however it will kill the smell of most things..

    • @neilmacintosh6007
      @neilmacintosh6007 7 років тому +14

      not true, it's an Acetic acid so it is actually a natural disinfectant.

    • @america1403
      @america1403 7 років тому +12

      Sorry, but you're partially right and partially wrong.. While Vinegar is 5% acetic acid, it will take care of some common germs, But to fully kill all germs, viruses and bacteria's, vinegar will not do that.. For instance vinegar will not kill bacteria like staphylococcus, E.coli, listeria an many bacteria's that can cause illnesses..
      Also, vinegar can prevent mold growth but will not kill it once mold has already grown..

    I'm not an Uber driver yet, but I did drive professionally in a town car for a limousine company and the flashlight is very useful after a drop. People would always leave a phone or wallet and you don't want to have drive back for that. I dropped off a client at LAX and he left his wallet, I had to leave my car at the curb and run after him. But great info and great channel!

    People are so funny - anyone puke in your car?!! - maybe they get car sick themselves and want to make sure that if they puke in your car that they aren’t the first one!
    I like that drivers are not in competition and therefore be way more supportive of each other, so much so, that like you are making these super detailed videos sharing your experience which is only going to enhance anyone getting started.

    I actually keep bags in the car if anyone gets sick and I always have gloves. My passengers like the hand sanitizer I keep and the passengers always comment on the dust buster I keep in the trunk. They love when a driver thinks proactively.
    I keep a body mist from Calgon in the front with me so I can spritz quickly and every passenger loves it. Its not overwhelming. Another thing I keep are glasses and screen wipes. I tell the passenger just to hand me the garbage so it stays neat looking even if I can't vacuum between trips while its busy.

      Dj Swift :
      1) Cost difference. I don't know how much the fancy flashlight is, but must be more expensive than a small pepper spray can, that I hopefully will never use.
      2) I don't want to be sued by the assailant for "causing blindness/eye damage by knowingly using a powerful light source at close range". Local laws may differ. Pepper spray only causes temporary physical inconvenience.

  • @BloodyBay

    Sweet! I already have most of these items in my car (except for the car vac and the auto glass cleaner; I keep those in my garage and touch up my car before and after each Uber shift). I even have the barf bags, but I don't have a bottle of soapy water, and my recharger doesn't have a standard 110-volt outlet for laptops; it's just lightning/Micro-USB.
    You might also want to pick up one of those collapsible, water-resistant trash buckets, just in case you or a passenger need to throw something away. They cost about $10 at Walmart's Automotive department, and they have a Velcro strip so you can stick them to a floor mat and keep them from tipping or rolling around. I also keep two Ozark Trail coolers filled with bottled water or cheap Ice drinks: a small one (capacity: 6 bottles) that sits up front with me, and a big one (capacity: 24) that sits in the trunk; I offer my riders complementary bottled drinks, I drop the empty bottles into my mini trash can, I drop the rider(s) off at the destination and I refill the small cooler from the big one at a convenient time between trips. It's helped me keep my five-star rating thus far. :-)
    I also keep the usual four road flares, a tire-patching kit and a combination battery jumper/air pump in my trunk tote, just in case something _really_ bad happens. (And I take the jumper-pump out and recharge it on the 1st of each month, no exceptions.) But hell, that's the kind of stuff that can hit you whether you're driving on Uber's time or your own. Be prepared, right?
    (For some reason, I can't get my Uber app to shake hands with my Waze app. Think it might be because of my cell phone model? It's a Moto E from Boost Mobile, Android version 5.1.)

    More items I've found that is a must is gum, starburst, jolly ranchers, hand lotion, hand sanitizer and mini tissues. I have also found if you step out of your vehicle to open the doors to pick up and drop off. The pax love that. I've helped women in and out of my vehicle and they are almost shocked that I do that. This is my second day. And I had a price adjustment. Claimed that I took the long route to their destination! It was raining so hard and traffic was a mess. They had to make another stop on the way, and apparently they didn't want to pay full price. But I won't complain...this is why I needed a teacher.

    Calvin - not only did I give your video a thumbs up I made a shopping list. First I went shopping around my house to get things I already have and the rest I will pick up at the store. You can also get those same vomit bags much cheaper off of Ebay. Even if if I never use any of that stuff I feel prepared for working with the public. Remember that a lot of people are not going to treat your car as well as you will and of course accidents can happen. Today will be my first day as a ride share driver. I am definitely nervous because Google maps doesn't always give the best navigation. I have been a ride share passenger since Feb of this year until a month ago when I bought my car. I interviewed almost every driver on what they like and don't like and whether they prefer Uber or Lyft. Since so many said Lyft is a little easier to get started with I decided to start with Lyft until I get some experience and maybe then I'll move to Uber. I drive in the Philly area. I also signed up for Amazon Flex to give me a break from talking to passengers. The nice thing about delivering packages is that packages don't talk back or argue with you!
    Even though I am signing up for all of these gigs I'm still gonna keep my day job. If I ever get laid off again, this ride share /package delivery thing will be my back up. I think I will also start using Waze because the last thing I want to do is piss off a customer by getting lost. Thanks for the tips...

      No I don't linger in the dark ages still using checkbooks. Everything is digital these days, especially the digital email I got from Lyft offering hourly guarantees of $24 and/or $30 per hour for driving this weekend. Cheers!

  • @realjasondaniels
    @realjasondaniels 8 років тому +3

    Hey man, how did you get the vacuum to work in your car? I bought the exact same vacuum that you bought off Amazon and my suburban won't power it so I bought a 300 W inverter which did not power it so I exchange that for a 750 W inverter and that did not power it either. So if I want to run this vacuum that you recommended, I need to buy a 1000 W inverter for an additional $100. And the inverters that are more powerful that 300 W need to be connected directly to the battery.

    • @realjasondaniels
      @realjasondaniels 8 років тому

      And my battery just died, probably from connecting it to those inverters. Now I'm off the road for the night which is going to cost me around $200. All because of a stupid little vacuum.

    • @TheSimpleDriver
      @TheSimpleDriver  8 років тому +4

      Charge the vacuum at home once a day if used. You should never have to run the battery dead while out Ubering. That's too much vacuuming...LOL

    Something that is probably obvious but also not something you would use every day is one of those upholstery cleaner spray cans, possibly with the attached plastic brush. I had a car with spilled drink stains, completely dried, but I tried that spray thing and it cleaned it up like magic, almost completely gone after 1 treatment. It does take a while to dry though, so probably best used when you're not driving.

      These items are the furthest thing from useless. I've needed just about every single item on this list. Including the vomit bags which saved my car a few times. AND THE LED FLASHLIGHT IS GOD!!! One other thing I invested in was a discrete bluetooth. That way when the GPS announces directions, it only goes in my left ear and passengers can't hear, or even know I have a bluetooth ; ) Plus I can take calls hands free and I look way more professional not staring at my gps.

    Excellent Advice.
    I have more for ya.
    I have used vinegar for years on blood stains and stains of sorts. Vinegar (non-diluted) will also easily remove human bodily fluids of ALL sorts and categories entirely .....including those bedroom stains (seriously). But you MUST apply Vinegar (non-diluted) to the stain immediately.
    Simple Rubbing Alcohol 50% or higher (non-diluted) works great on everything; I carry with me EVERYWHERE. I carry a small 4-inch spray bottle (available from Walmart in the cosmetics department or travel accessories area) to kill bacteria and germs on my hands, etc. I also use Rubbing Alcohol to clean my phone and thousands of other electronic devices. Alcohol leaves them super clean while at the same time killing germs or all sorts. Alcohol removes dirt, grease, body oils, etc. Rubbing Alcohol is AMAZING it cleans EVERYTHING.

    I feel like buying some scotch guard and doing it your self throughout the interior would help make the vomit Clean up very easy. It's basically a waterproofing so liquids don't soak in. Does not change the color of the upholstery. I don't think it effects the feel of it either.
