I just bought a bottle of Green River Wheated. I've been on a wheat path lately. I usually have my bourbon over Ice but last night i sipped it neat. OMG, the flavors exploded -- best whiskey i ever tasted. It beats out Larceny for my goto drink.
What? Their Fusion series was a scam at $65. Then they started using Dickel to ruin historically awesome releases i.e. Discovery Series & Chateau de Labaude. The Origin is meh at best. Not to mention all their collab stuff is ridiculously overpriced
The issue I have with that Bardstown is that MSRP is 160.... and its MGP standard leftover 7yr, with the failing stock of Dickel we-hope-this-gets-better-leftover-for-sale-to-blend-17yr. Its standard and loser barrels put into a namesake old rum cask to push out forgotten stock and two recognizable names. It's hard to spend the money to try these experiments and cash grabs.
Picked up both the Green River Bourbon and Green River Wheated Bourbon a few weeks ago for $35 each. Both are pretty darn good for the money. I was pleasantly surprised that Bernheim BP A223 was better than expected. Found and bought the Bardstown Collaborative Foursquare Rum Bourbon, but have not cracked it open yet. Glad you reviewed it. 🥃
Need to do a full review on the Bardstown Foursquare. Just got a bottle and really liked it; would love to hear your actual tasting notes. I got cherry, maple, and coconut.
I'm not a fan of wheat whiskey, but I tried this one recently, and it was good, especially for the value. The wheat notes aren't as strong as many other wheated whiskeys, but it still has that sweet wheat flavor. Great review boys!
How apropos, Depp is from Owensboro, KY originally. Dan could tour their old O. Z. Tyler distillery and drink with Johnny... except I doubt he really remembers the town, which is mostly known for being the home of the Waltrip NASCAR family, a barbecue festival, a Ragu plant and of course, bourbon. I grew up in that area both sides of the Ohio River. I have to agree their boubon is a solid B. I have some of their younger stuff from my tour two summers ago, and it was good for young bourbon, so I was ready to jump on a bottle when I found it on the market.
Blinded Green River Wheated against Weller SR, Holladay Soft Red Wheat, and Wilderness Trail Single Barrel 100 proof. Wilderness came out on top with the Holladay in second, followed by the Weller and Green River last. On its own Green River is awesome, but I feel like in the blind it just couldn’t hang. Weller had the best nose but almost no finish, though, which I’d never noticed before.
Last December I was in a shop in Louisville and the owner recommended Green River. Said there wasn't much chatter about it but it is soooo good. Figured what the hell, it's only $35. So glad I did. I think it's great. I have the wheated on my shelf but haven't cracked it yet. Have heard nothing but great things on it as well.
I managed to grab a Weller Special Reserve recently for more than I wanted to pay but not so much to at least be able to try it. 37 bucks.... but I had to spend 25 bucks on something else. Grabbed a Bulleit Rye and the WSR. Honestly not that thrilled with the WSR. It's not bad but nothing to really write home about. It did make a pretty good old fashioned though.
Out of all the ATTAINABLE wheaters, Larceny Barrel Proof is soooo far out in first place. I'm just glad I bought multiple C922's. One of my favorite pours.
Thanks guys for the Green River review. I bought a bottle a few weeks back of the regular bourbon but have been hesitant to open it. But I may crack it tonight when I get home.
Here's the thing with B'town-x-4Square, you're paying $150-170 for this and agree finish is fantastic. But lacking on the front end. Slaps on the back end tho. I'm 6 oz in on this bottle and hoping it further balances out for a complete mouth feel in another month or two. Cheers
Funny, I blinded the BBC 4S last night & im so sensitive to Dickel, thats all i could smell initially. it overpowered the rum for me (not bad on the palate though).
Same, I bought a mystery package for a 119 proof single barrel first offering for a legacy distillery. Waited a month...then Fenwick's! I was convinced it was going to be Green River.
If it’s similar to 1792 Small Batch then thanks for saving me some cash. I found an out of the way store that has this but I’m not going to head out there if this is similar to something readily available by me.
Love you guys and what you do with the channel. And know you guys are trying to be nice. But...$160 plus tax for the Bardstown. Out the store at over $170. Is it really worth that?? Let us know.
I like it a lot, I think its at least comparable to Weller SR. Its good, cheap ($35 here), and usually easy to find depending whether its in your state. I think its way better than Larceny, which tastes younger to me, and definitely more flavor than Makers. Rebel barrel picks are usually pretty good but you pay another $15-20.
For $150 I just purchased the latest release from foursquare. I think I’d rather try that then this release. I’ve never had a bottle of foursquare before.
Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, this might be killing me, try at your own risk. I love breathing in the vapors from when you pop a fresh whiskey bottle. It's so flavorful.
Guys - Bourbon Blind with Stuff and Whiskey, Early Times B/F vs Early Times Saz plus 3 others and do it live stream with them... we want this, do it! 😀
The only way to do it is to take multiple glasses of each, not just one of each and line them up blind as to which you guess they are. I doubt anyone would be able to separate multiples consistently
I tried the regular Green River last year. I thought it tasted like a GREEN RIVER or, swamp. Bought the wheated two weeks ago and tonight I'm having my second pour. It smells pungent and tastes like spaghetti water. I am by no means an expert or seasoned veteran of whiskey/bourbon. I guess this just isn't the distillery for me.
The new Green River wheated bourbon is mediocre it has a nice nose but the palate is not great it tastes young and grainy its not awful but I call it camp fire whiskey. 5 years ago it would be 20 bucks
Where TF was Dan born? I've never met a Michigan man who unironically said watching hockey was boring. Hopefully I just failed to read the sarcasm. What the actual fu...

Wonder how it compares to Bardstown BiB Origin Series (black label) which is a wheated bourbon
Bardstown is getting to the point where I just assume EVERYTHING they put out is exceptional.
What? Their Fusion series was a scam at $65. Then they started using Dickel to ruin historically awesome releases i.e. Discovery Series & Chateau de Labaude. The Origin is meh at best. Not to mention all their collab stuff is ridiculously overpriced
Their pricing is out of whack.
@@tde2019 the Origin BiB is a fantastic pour at 50 bucks. not sure what you've been drinking.
@@tde2019 the fusion series #9 is phenomenal.
Pricing has what has kept me away from trying them since I started enjoying bourbon August of 2022

Have you ever tried Ragged Mountain Rum from BMD ( Berkshire Mountain Distillery)? It brought me back to the distillery several times!
Jason C from Mash and Drum picked up on the Dickel the first time he tried it. He's probably just more prepared for the Matt Madness finals, I guess.
Jason is in Beast Mode

I really don't get the hype. It's truly nothing special.
With all the bangers and great whikkey you boys get and enjoy, I’m sure it’s now harder for you two to enjoy “entry level” juice.

Their last rum finished was fantastic!
You guys should put the Bardstown rum finish up against the Old Elk Rum finish which isalso finished in Foursquare barrels, but cheaper
Picked up the Green River Wheated a month ago just randomly and was pleasantly surprised.

I agree on the Bardstown Foursquare collab... This is the way.
Weller SR is the stuff we would buy ar $22 a handle to mix with ginger ale back in the day. It's not as good as Buffalo Trace standard bourbon.
I'm here from Stuff and Whiskey. We need to have the blind battle with the Sazerac and Brown-Forman Early Times Bottled in bond.
Rebel 100 is $19.99 in SC. I like it way better than Larceny for a cheap wheater!
Wheat Funk sounds like a great name for a band 😂
Wheat Funk opening for the Green River Band?
Funny, I blinded the BBC 4S last night & im so sensitive to Dickel, thats all i could smell initially. it overpowered the rum for me (not bad on the palate though).
I like it. Can’t wait for the single barrel barrel strength Green River.
Same, I bought a mystery package for a 119 proof single barrel first offering for a legacy distillery. Waited a month...then Fenwick's! I was convinced it was going to be Green River.
Rebel 100 solid wheated for under $20. Do like this GR wheated🥃
Rebel 100 is a wheat? I know there is wheat in there but they don't disclose their mashbill from I know
Dickel finished in Tabasco barrels makes it better🤔
Bernheim is fantastic for $27. Also a barrel proof (119) version for $64.
“I’m an inch away and I don’t smell Dickel”. 😂 Took the words out of my mouth.
Just got a backup handle of special reserve for 42 bucks. Long live Texas!
Weller SR is $24 in Ohio and you can still find on more than one occasion. At that price it’s the best value.
If it’s similar to 1792 Small Batch then thanks for saving me some cash. I found an out of the way store that has this but I’m not going to head out there if this is similar to something readily available by me.

I definitely prefer GR over WSR

Question for ya…if you boys could only purchase this bottle or a bottle of Foursquare Touchstone which one are you going home with?
"Some times God just wants me to spill whiskey ". Absolutely hilarious...
Where did the coins come from?
Rebel or bottle shelf Old Fitz probably cheapest wheated bourbon :P
For sure
Actually isn't Rebel 100 like $16?
Just saw makers mark on sale for $29.00 at local store -lol
For $150 I just purchased the latest release from foursquare. I think I’d rather try that then this release. I’ve never had a bottle of foursquare before.
Y'all need to try the Holladay 6 year BIB wheated bourbon. Everything they've got coming out is world class and nobody is talking about them
Where are you that Holladay 6yr BiB is available? Sounds interesting, but I've never seen it in Michigan

Green River Full Proof is so tasty!!!!!
Liquor up front, Poker in the rear
i think maybe he needs a glencairn slippy cup.
Howdy BJ bois.
Dan...congratulations on moving on to the MM Finals.
“I’m an inch away and I can’t smell dickel”
Regular Maker's is sub-$25 locally fwiw
Opening with a straight on horseshoe shot.😢
1:42 "Name the cheapest wheated on the market right now." Rebel. $15-20. Next question?
The new Green River wheated bourbon is mediocre it has a nice nose but the palate is not great it tastes young and grainy its not awful but I call it camp fire whiskey. 5 years ago it would be 20 bucks

We both agreed in a small side conversation that was probably cut that in person vs on TV were different
@@BourbonJunkies where did the coin set come from?
Redemption wheated
Always finish the dickel
He is correct. He could sniff put a dickel better than anyone on the planet.
Makers mark under 20$
Definitely blow away the coke smoke
Dan in the finals?
GRW>WSR
GRW = Green River Wheated
WSR = Weller Special Reserve
Now I KNOW Brandon is not gonna stand for this blasphemous slander about hockey!
