Went over to a friend's house in 8th grade. He was running around Neriak as a Dark Elf Enchanter, passing by other players on his way to speak with NPCs in the Enclave of the Spurned. (This was before the Frontiers expansion closed beta, so relatively early on.) At that time I had never encountered an MMO on any platform, and yep, my mind was blown. It was the coolest game I had ever seen on a console. The vibrant textures, the atmospheric music, the freedom of a seamless world, no pausing because you're live---almost like a sleepless alternative dimension. I had to be in there. And sure, it was a royal pain to purchase the network adapter to connect using my 56k modem and FINALLY get to that small server list (Ferran's Hope btw), but my excitement and the experiences I'd have playing this game on my favorite console were worth every bit of frustration. EQOA will always have a special place in my heart, and I look forward to the day I can return home.
This game and FF11 is what got me into MMOs. I absolutely loved this game. I played a shadowknight and i would tank for all my teams. Back when you had to run to every town and campsite manually. Had to dodge mobs on your way there...sounds tedious now, but back then, it was a whole adventure. I will never forget it.
God, as a 13/14 year old boy, this game took over my LIFE for a bit. I'd literally pull all-nighters just camping out at some spot (Elephant's Graveyard, that was a place, right?) and grinding enemies over and over and over. There was more than one occasion I'd fall asleep on the floor right in front of my shitty CRT screen, waking up a few hours later, somehow still alive. Things certainly became a lot easier when I switched from Dark Elf Shadowknight (Maledin) to Human Necromancer (Niadan) around the time that Frontiers dropped... man, that class was OP, wasn't it? Grinding became a lot easier when we could just get 4 summoning classes together, set our pets to auto-attack, and get one poor schmuck to pull stuff for us while the rest of us AFK'd for free XP. I think I ended up leveling up to 56 and grinding out my Class Mastery Lich class before my PS2 finally gave out... and that was the end of my journey in EQOA. I spent the next few months rekindling old friendships and getting into more typical teenage stuff like booze and girls. But I'll never forget my time in EQOA. There was so much jank in the game, but that honestly just added to the charm. Who could forget kiting the Dreadnought -- a skeletal centaur (skeletaur?) -- in circles around the frozen north while the rest of your guild did its best shooting arrows and/or magic at it, while trying to avoid aggroing it. Or eventually downing it to gain access to the mysterious Isle of Dread and... healing the group as a necromancer?? That was my personal favorite jank. As if necromancers already weren't OP already, if you equipped a bunch of crafted armor with +Arcane Resistance, you could essentially get to 99% reduced arcane damage. Which meant you could spam your spells that would usually siphon health from you to your pet and/or guildmates and take practically no damage along the way. By the end game, I was basically just there as support for my pet, which was either a swirling vortex of bones or a... red cloud? I don't remember how far I got lol. Other than that, one thing I loved about the game was the sense of wonder you'd get from exploring. There was ALWAYS some new place you'd randomly stumble upon, that seemingly had no purpose other than being there for world building and/or possible new grinding spots that no one had figured out yet. I loved progressing through areas as you'd level up, like that pirate town that then led to a haunted cave full of spider vampires (???) or the gnoll cave nearby Darvor's Manor (how tf do I remember these names??). Anyone else 'member the ELITE end game guild Cosa Nostra? I don't even remember the name of my own guild, but I remember that THEY were the top dogs of Castle Lightwolf. Man, they were SO cool... Anyway, that's enough waxing nostalgic for me for now. I'd definitely check out a revival server if it ever came to be, with one condition: sped up leveling. Ain't no way I'd ever pull all nighters grinding frozen goblins near Zantar's Keep ever again.
Bro I was castle lightwolf, n yes I remember cosa nostra. I was a dwarf warrior ShinAttack. Favorite spot to grind of all time any level was at the giants. Yes necros or pet owners period became op with frontiers but still amazing game. I can’t think of the name off the top off my head but I believe there was guild on this same server that was second to CosaNostra
I Beta tested this game, and it changed my life and my oldest & middle sons too! My middle son was 4 at the time and basically learned how to read by playing the game and doing all the outlined Quests in the EQOA "Bible" guide, lol. I cannot express how severely missed this game is by many people. For a few years I Tri-boxed, with mainly 2 Twin Magicians, and leveled up many toons with them, and just about maxed out CM's. Used to have a controller on each thigh and main, character, "Puller" in hand, fun times. The sad thing is there are many many other people with stories all very similar but yet sony does not care to bring the game back, even after fans had a petition to save it, sad sad story. They could of very easily implemented it on the PS3 or revised it for the PS4. With all the retro remake bullshit that has been going on over the past 5 years, you would think this would be the Holy Grail of remakes. No other game has been able to fill the void that this has left in my heart since shut down in March 2012. But thankfully we have the Return Home Project that has been working tirelessly to bring the game back to form. I’m on the sandstorm server every day. If you have fond memories of this game or if you’d like to just check it out, there’s a private server running and the team is making progress with updates every week. Here is a link to a video explaining how to set it up on PC. ua-cam.com/video/EADVRg8bcRE/v-deo.html
Oh man it's so crazy to see this game still being around, I beta tested for this game and it was so much fun. I was a big Everquest fan at the time and being able to get a copy and beta test was amazing at the time
A friend from work tried to get me into Eq on the pc. I tried it, but it was too complicated, because I'd never played an mmo prior. I saw this at the store and bought it and a network adaptor. It was so easy to get into. I ended up buying 2 more ps2s and network adaptors so my brother could play with me when he went to live with me. On 3rd ps2, I had a shaman to heal us. I liked the class quests for gear and weapons. It was great at the time.
This kind of things make revive my hope for humanity. People who recreate games for the sake of new audiences to enjoy it, people who make tweaks and tacks to make it funnier or harder, or all of this private servers. There's some guys recreating mgs3 in mgsv. Fans are the living proof that if we put all our effort and work together we can accomplish anything, like bringing back a ps2 mmo i mean c'mon that is a helluva work.
EQOA owned my younger years, and its going to own my older years once this revivals complete! Already have it all set up and running around in the pre-alpha sandbox environment :)
I had wayyy too many good times in EQOA. I'll never forget being on the EQOA Playstation forums and asking the devs if I was going to make it into the beta. They let me know that I didn't get accepted to Phase 1, but made it into Phase 2 and 3. To this day, it was one of the only things I tested that felt like it was truly a beta and not just a fancy network stress test. Weapons and armor had completely incorrect textures/models and all that. On the last day of the beta, one of developers I had met in-game, teleported me to where she was playing with a bunch of other players and turning into various dragons and bosses and whatnot. Needless to say, the full game came out and was probably the best time I've ever had online outside of PSO for Dreamcast. On another note, in my area, the PS2 network adapter wasn't obscure at all. Everyone I knew had one pretty much on release and we used to constantly play the demo disc it came with that included Madden and Frequency. Once Socom released with voice chat, it was all over. In addition to that, a 40GB hard drive released alongside FFXI. I don't think it was used for much else in the US, but Sony gave it away for free to those of us that beta tested FFXI for PS2.
This game was absolutely incredible back in the day. This is the game that got me addicted to MMORPGs, and I've not found another with the sense of community or comradery since.
I played this game day 1 and went on to play it for a couple years...Had my own guild and was my first experience being a GM before World Of Warcraft....I would for sure go all the way through this again. It was one of the more difficult and enjoyable experiences I ever had with MMOs....It did not cater to little kids or casuals but I did know of an 8 year old kid who ran one of the larger guild on my server. This game had some toxic folks at times but it was far far less than any game today. Well worth diving into this huge world with all of its classes and all around excellent community of people who are likely some of the best gamers I've ever been lucky enough to experience such a good game with.
My mother loved this game wish they tried to remake/remaster it for newer consoles, she never stopped talking about all the lovely memories made and the people she met.
I have this weird interest in MMOs that peaked well before my time. I'm in my late 20s so a little young to have played EQOA or EQ1, but they are fascinating to me. Like a time capsule or something. I'd love to have well-done reboots for these and other games. Just to go see how things were, understand how they influenced future games, pick through how the game works, etc.
I was a freshman in high school when this was released. I had just started working a part-time after school & weekend job, so I was able to afford the game, network adapter, keyboard, & subscription for the game. I also somehow convinced 3 of my friends to do the same, don't ask me how. We all later on moved onto FFXI, which was easy enough because all we needed to do was buy the hard drive in addition to the game. I actually ended up buying a 4 port Linksys router so we could have EQOA/FFXI LAN parties at a friend's house. It was only 2 or 3 of us, but that was amazing back for 03-04. That EQOA commercial is actually what got me into EQOA, though I was already into MMOs being that I already had been playing RuneScape Classic. Good times...
Dang. i have so many memories in everquest online adventures. I remember actually waiting in line to get the frontiers expansion and the crowd in front of EB games was chanting "frontiers Frontiers"
Had the adapter, spent many many hours playing it, loved every second of it and would love to play it again. I was playing Everquest and this, side by side. When I was on my couch, I was playing this, and on PC it was EQ or DAoC.
This was my very first MMO! I remember my uncle showing me this and him letting me stay up for hours past my bed time to play this with him. I have so many fond memories. Goblin shacks, Deathfist citadel, Kobold camps, Croc island, I remember them all! I can't wait to play this again.
I remember camping vox for the fucking longest. I missed the chance to get that blue robe that dropped in some pyramid. My buddy had gotten it then fucking server crashed for the update to take it out lol good times though
I loved playing my ps2 online! I got it mainly for final fantasy xi, and eventually got everquest online, resident evil outbreak 1 and 2, socom 1-3, metal gear online, Tony hawk underground 1 and 2, mortal kombat deception and need for speed underground 2 were thr main ones I played. My roommate would use my ps2 when I wasn't on to play madden online.
I played with a wired headset plugged into a cordless landline phone so that I could talk to my buddy from school. It didn't run up the bill because it wasn't long distance, but we did have to get off occasionally so that someone else could use the phone.
I miss this game so much! Draxsus: level 60 monk master class ninja, a pure damage machine (main character) Senix: level 60 shadowknight master class deathknight, one of only 4 known shadowknights to main tank the dragon Noroxious at the time Deloren: level 60 paladin master class crusader Guild: officer of "The Exiled" co-founder of "The Dukes of Hazinak"
I bought the PS2 FFXI network adapter bundle at launch. Didn't play much FF but I played a lot of EQOA and Socom. I'm convinced those were the peak of my gaming days. Nothing since then has come close to matching that first online gaming experience.
Just found this ps2 game at a goodwill and wanted to see how good it was! It looks like a lot of people enjoyed this game! Wish I could of experienced it back in the day
I remember playing this game as a teen, too bad that my english was not that great so I basically wandered around the game world without half a clue of what to do.
The dreaded dail up error. I use to have my parents phone line tied up lol getting a call and getting knocked off online. They ended up getting a second line for just internet. Memories.
I remember getting the beta for frontiers. There was this trick were you loaded up reg eqoa went to the character screen or loaded the character don’t remember which but then you take the eqoa disc out replace it with the frontiers beta n boom! Frontiers graphics on eqoa lol
I think many folks forgot that there WAS an IN GAME audio. I used many peripherals for this game. A headset with mic attachment and a keyboard/controller combo(the keyboard was even removable). Of course I had to play this game on a tiny 2x2ft screen despite all my toys for this game.
Having faith on this project, also because it seems like EQOA shares some UI things and various elements with Champions of Norrath and Return to Arms, and those are some neat Diablo clones I'd ove to play online with my PS2 again.
Anyone remember printing out the world map off the internet so that you knew where to go. HAHA Anyone remember joining PL groups and just afking in them for hours. Good times.
@@VagrantVideos I played this when I was young. This was my first (maybe second MMO) so it holds a special place for me! Really looking forward to this private server. I was actually referencing my character was in one of the clips. You can see my Dark Elf Veloren fall down the ramp (Pretty typical for me honestly)
Bruh, I played eqoa when it came out. We had cell phones, lol. I worked in retail & I would take my ps2 & a 12" tv in my car w/me so after work I could go to my bff's house to play w/him. I had a cell phone during that time.
@@Xzandiel I had a Nokia 3330 in 2003, it was less than $100 and my monthly phone vill thru Verizon was ~30-40 bucks... I was FAR from well-off, lol. BUT, I was an "adult," and had a decent job and apartment and oh, NO girlfriend that I was spending $$$$$ on lol.
On this note; being on my own having an apartment and a cell phone, I didn't have a "land line phone," so that was a challenge... I had to get permission from the phone company in my town so that I could get a DSL service installed to even play. It took so long that I missed the launch and ended up not getting everything up and working until Marr's Fist was released, and so that became my home. I think it was a month or so after that when PPO was launched, but idr for sure.
I assume it was 10-15$ a month just like Everquest was. At 50k players and 10$ a month, that's over half a million a year extra after selling the game that was not free to download.
If you have fond memories of this game or if you’d like to just check it out, there’s a private server running and the team is making progress with updates every week. Here is a link to a video explaining how to set it up on PC. ua-cam.com/video/EADVRg8bcRE/v-deo.html
Actually, the graphics look great running it on an emulator you can enhance the graphics and resolution. EQOA (PS2) always looked better than Everquest that was on the PC back then anyhow. In fact, some of the video footage in this video is from the PC version of Everquest which in many people's opinion sucked. Love the movie snippet at the end, ya uhh well ya know, that's just like, your opinion man.
Lmao, you talk about it must have sucked to have to call your friends to play games online, you don't know the half of it, back when this game first came out it was on dial up modem, if a telemarketer called your house and you didn't have call waiting, lmfao, you would get booted off the server and your phone would ring, fucking hilarious shit, during playing the tank would stop moving during a pull, the healer HoT heals the tank, the tank disappears and the monster turns on the healer, greatest Ahhhhh f@#$ moments
i wouldnt say the last few years... they have been working on this since maybe 2013-2014 i have been following the project the whole time waiting patiently.
Ah I went on info that I could find, typically with my videos I can’t seem to get people to help me gather information so a lot of times I do get things wrong.
@@VagrantVideos no its cool it didnt really pick up popularity until the last few years tbh. thats probably why you didnt know but yeah the revival project started not long after sunset and then the first look at the savestate free roam play didnt start until a few years later with that just being a program where you could run around the empty maps with no npcs or character models. they have come a long ways and its a very tedious project being there are not many working on it and they dont get paid for it.
@@VagrantVideos it's actually playable like you can quest and kill mobs leveling up? Or can just run around and look at things like I've been reading and seeing in YT videos?
@@VagrantVideos We also had what was called duel boxing and tri boxing. If you duel boxed, you had two ps2s, two accounts, two characters and you played them side by side. I knew a guy who quad boxed. Ran four necromancers
@@VagrantVideos Yeah, thats just one. Whats the many others cause I'd like to play some but all I can find is that and some anime thing i cant get working
Best mmorpg I ever played, I'm hoping this game comes back in full again. Miss the grind. Gaining levels in this game actually felt like an accomplishment.
And you’d have to put your 30 pound laptop next to your tv/ps2 to talk on it with friends 😂 Pc wasn’t as accessible in the early 2000s at least in my household.
It would be nice to give credit (add links to description) to the other youtube videos you used in this video. If not out of respect for the original uploaders, then out of respect for viewers who may wish to view the videos in their original form.
Once you listed Discord, I was out. I seriously dislike Discord. You can't ever find information on there without a ton of people talking that are idiots.
Are you hopeful to play this game?
Been playing it since the last update
@@phillipmorris6629Is it worth playing? Seems interesting.

I miss this game so much!
Draxsus: level 60 monk master class ninja, a pure damage machine (main character)
Senix: level 60 shadowknight master class deathknight, one of only 4 known shadowknights to main tank the dragon Noroxious at the time
Deloren: level 60 paladin master class crusader
Guild: officer of "The Exiled"
co-founder of "The Dukes of Hazinak"
I was a 60 warrior dwarf hero master class fucked up being a lion should have gone gator but fuck it I was a kid n like how the lion looked lol
I played the crap out of EQOA for so many years, still best game I've ever played. CLW!
I bought the PS2 FFXI network adapter bundle at launch. Didn't play much FF but I played a lot of EQOA and Socom. I'm convinced those were the peak of my gaming days. Nothing since then has come close to matching that first online gaming experience.
Yeah! Socom!
This was the game that made it all for me I beloved my necromancer and my swarming death awwww
Hey, awesome video, thank you. Perhaps you may review it again when it is closer to finished :)
Id love to!
i played this a ton back in '03. It was really REALLY good. The community was so cool and friendly. I was a tank.
I miss this game man I had stacked level 60s I wish I could play it again
I want this game to make a comeback so bad.
Loved this game back in the early 00s
Everquest online adventures for life. Pour one out for the real ones.
Who wants to go grind Sirens? I'll bring the Charging Rhino! Get you out of xp debt rq. Dang Bsod, sorry for the death train lol.
EQOA, best mmo on PS2
Best mmo of all time
Lol, nice. I am Meranda. Ty for selecting that clip.
Very nice! The community is all here
Pumpin that new content out
The dreaded dail up error. I use to have my parents phone line tied up lol getting a call and getting knocked off online. They ended up getting a second line for just internet. Memories.
Had the online adapter dial up for the win! Loved this game! Ferrans hope Hail Dragust!
I’m sad I missed out
your using PC Everquest Videos in part's of this video
I remember getting the beta for frontiers. There was this trick were you loaded up reg eqoa went to the character screen or loaded the character don’t remember which but then you take the eqoa disc out replace it with the frontiers beta n boom! Frontiers graphics on eqoa lol
I loved it. I had an Enchanter with my raging rhino I was deadly
I think many folks forgot that there WAS an IN GAME audio. I used many peripherals for this game. A headset with mic attachment and a keyboard/controller combo(the keyboard was even removable). Of course I had to play this game on a tiny 2x2ft screen despite all my toys for this game.
Holy fuck I didn’t know about the mic. I just used that big ass control with the keyboard in the middle
BRUH I played TF out of this game when it first released on the ps2 and LOVED it. Would really enjoy trying it again but only have my PC now lol.
Its on steam and free too
@@ooffff1822 Everquest Online Adventures is most definitely not on Steam....
@@Sevatar_VIIIth oh shit my bad i thought you mean the ever quest online free to play on steam
@@ooffff1822 all good
Oh my gawd. I played this in 2003? I had a blast.
4:10 why is this so true?!
Thanks for giving our game a shout out Vagrant. 😎👍👍
You are welcome! Keep trucking guys!!
HAHA
Anyone remember joining PL groups and just afking in them for hours.
Good times.
this was my first mmo before i moved to FFXI
Hey! I can see my Dark Elf from here!
I can’t cuz i never played :(
@@VagrantVideos I played this when I was young. This was my first (maybe second MMO) so it holds a special place for me!
Really looking forward to this private server.
I was actually referencing my character was in one of the clips.
You can see my Dark Elf Veloren fall down the ramp (Pretty typical for me honestly)
Nice to see this. I can see mine too.
I always wanted too play this as a kid but never had access too ps2 online, my pc sucks wonder if my ps3 can play it
Bruh, I played eqoa when it came out. We had cell phones, lol. I worked in retail & I would take my ps2 & a 12" tv in my car w/me so after work I could go to my bff's house to play w/him. I had a cell phone during that time.
Cell phones in 2003 were not common. Only well-off families had them.
5 dollars I believe
Eviljay or wreckinforce from clw server back in the day was my game for sure
Absolutely loved this game , played it for years
Well hopefully it comes back 100%
who had all 4 halloween costumes?
If you have fond memories of this game or if you’d like to just check it out, there’s a private server running and the team is making progress with updates every week. Here is a link to a video explaining how to set it up on PC. ua-cam.com/video/EADVRg8bcRE/v-deo.html
Thanks for the info!
What a great game EQOA was. I really wish daybreak or whatever would re release it. I would definitely play it again..
I would play it to experience it
6:50 LMAO
Oh ya man
Id give a kidney to play this again
Sumthingcool proud pine outpost never forget!!!
Oneyplays, cuz ur name is chris oneil lol
gb fp tc the last words ever spoken like a beast
Can you still play this on PS3 today?
No, servers were shut down forever ago
EQOA gives me nostalgia similar to Free Realms even though I never got to play it.
I played Free Realms very briefly, it was like a kids version of RuneScape
Actually, the graphics look great running it on an emulator you can enhance the graphics and resolution. EQOA (PS2) always looked better than Everquest that was on the PC back then anyhow. In fact, some of the video footage in this video is from the PC version of Everquest which in many people's opinion sucked. Love the movie snippet at the end, ya uhh well ya know, that's just like, your opinion man.
It is indeed just my opinion lol. But thats awesome, do you think it could eventually be modded with HD texture packs?
Lmao, you talk about it must have sucked to have to call your friends to play games online, you don't know the half of it, back when this game first came out it was on dial up modem, if a telemarketer called your house and you didn't have call waiting, lmfao, you would get booted off the server and your phone would ring, fucking hilarious shit, during playing the tank would stop moving during a pull, the healer HoT heals the tank, the tank disappears and the monster turns on the healer, greatest Ahhhhh f@#$ moments
Videos like this scares me bc idk if this helps or hurts the game since daybreak or whatever they are called can see this an pull the plug so fast
Theres been videos for years, not sure if its just the company not caring or what though
There's no monetary value coming from this, and I don't believe Daybreak even owns the rights to many of the games' assets anymore.
Is it playable now on ps2?
Unfortunately I don’t think so. Progress as far as I know is very slow.
VERY NICE
Great video man
i wouldnt say the last few years... they have been working on this since maybe 2013-2014 i have been following the project the whole time waiting patiently.
Sweet!
I played from 2003 till they shut down the servers I was a human monk lvl 58
I miss this game, I wish Sony would reboot it for PS5
Its playable again at least
@@VagrantVideos it's actually playable like you can quest and kill mobs leveling up? Or can just run around and look at things like I've been reading and seeing in YT videos?
It really wasnt that hard to set up. I played it for about 6 years on marrs fist. I still have dreams about it
Ive read some people having issues but it does sound relatively simple
@@VagrantVideos We also had what was called duel boxing and tri boxing. If you duel boxed, you had two ps2s, two accounts, two characters and you played them side by side. I knew a guy who quad boxed. Ran four necromancers
We used TeamSpeak back then. Someone had to rent a server though
Wanna say I used mumble
switch has mmos?
DCUO is on switch lol
@@VagrantVideos Yeah, thats just one. Whats the many others cause I'd like to play some but all I can find is that and some anime thing i cant get working
review Guild Wars 1 :)
One day! That would be a big one for sure
Lol I saw my name but bearly. I'm primera. Forgot what I said tho
Probably something huge
I fully support private servers if it means they can preserve dead mmorpgs
Same here, hopefully we don’t get screwed though lol
Killer video
Best mmorpg I ever played, I'm hoping this game comes back in full again. Miss the grind. Gaining levels in this game actually felt like an accomplishment.
Love games that mKe you feel like you did something vs just being handed it
I was aware dude I bought the game got the network adapter for free
Lucky duck man
if i could bend my knees I'd teabag %4 hail from mynukesrbest FH
Teamspeak existed in the early 2000s, just sayin
And you’d have to put your 30 pound laptop next to your tv/ps2 to talk on it with friends 😂
Pc wasn’t as accessible in the early 2000s at least in my household.
can lvl to 45 on sandstorm come grtind with me
It would be nice to give credit (add links to description) to the other youtube videos you used in this video. If not out of respect for the original uploaders, then out of respect for viewers who may wish to view the videos in their original form.
put WoW on console
Once you listed Discord, I was out. I seriously dislike Discord. You can't ever find information on there without a ton of people talking that are idiots.
There MAY be a youtube video guide on how to get it working on ps2 hardware but I couldn’t find one.
Also EQOA Revival and EQOA Reunited on Facebook.
You would be surprised how mature the discord is. Most of us are 30+
Very helpful people.
Oh, how I wish they would just bring this game back.
Lmao this will never work fully
