The moment i saw pineapple, this video must be dedicated for your sister 😆, in your last video you mention your sister obsessed with pineapple 😆. I love my sister as well so to see someone care about them it remind me of her and thats make me happy 😀.
Thanks for your vlogs! (I know this one is 3 years old)I got four variegated starters for me and my three daughters. Didn't realize the time it takes and size they are. Today out of a whim I bought a pineapple at the grocery store ( Colorado, USA) and plan in putting the cutting in water for my 5yr old granddaughter to watch grow. I enjoyed your Japan growers videos.
I have been growing pineapples for two years now. I love the look of them .They haven't fruit yet I'm ok with that.Boy you have to watch out cause the leaves are sharp one of the easy plants in my collection.
@@onlyplants I do all of that sometimes it will fruit in your environment sometime it won't.Right now they outside has been since spring. I really don't care if they fruit or not . I just like the look of them period.
I don't remember if I commented on this video when you posted it 2 yrs ago, but anyway... One of my nannies when I was little showed me how to propagate pineapples. She cut off the top, about an inch below the base of the leaves on top, and then bury that top part of the fruit with all the leaves above ground. The fruit part feeds the cutting in the first 2-3 weeks of growth. ❤
@onlyplants Ain't it, though? Hehe And yesterday at the wet market I saw a pineapple with 6 heads of leaves. I was like, wut the heck??? So I bought it just so I can dissect and see what I can do with it. Lol
Here in PH, we call that bigger pineapple Queen Formosa, the smaller one is called a Butterball. Cute names for plants that try to digest your tounge when you eat them. 😂 But we love our pineapples here. Also PJ.

Shortest video and infectious one. Those foliage propagating in the clear glass was a beauty. I will start to shop for pineapple without thorns. If not, with thorns I don't mine. I'm excited!
Thank You been trying to remember how i got it to root. I didnt cut high enough its been 40+years lol. Love this you could do videos on other kitchen fruits on how to. I live your friendliness and you make me smile even laugh with you
super informative!! i always wondered how pineapples were grown... i usually buy the precut ones from the supermarket, but buying the actual fruit looks so funnn and propagating it!! ill definitely try to get a pineapple soon and follow ur care tips! thank you :D
Hello thank you for writing in. There are so many ways to propagate pineapples... they even throw out babies when they mature. But commercially I think they may be grown from seed. 😇
Hello! I don't like eating pineapple at all hehhe But I cultivate 2 pots of it for my mother, she loves it. My pineapple has ferns around him and spider get crazy about building their webs all over it, but garden spiders are beautiful, so i don't mind. It's so easy to propagate, take care and they're beautiful... (=
Hi Shawn, I’ve noticed you use laboratory glassware in many of your propagation. I love how they look. Along with your excellent science explanation, I wonder if you work in a lab? Thank you for the tutorial on pineapple propagation. Would you consider showing us sweet potato and citrus and other fruit germination tutorials? I must be doing something wrong as everything starts well but then my seedling decline? Great content as always
Hello, I am a soap maker and make a lot of natural skincare using oils. However I got the sciency propagation vessels online and cheap. I love the way they look and they cost way less than what a vase would. 😆 I am terrible at seed starting! But I will learn at some point and share!
Hi Sean, i’ve done one this summer, i hope it will be ok and grow! Let’s see! Great video again. I haven’t see yet your repot and propagate video, i keep it for me week-end! 😄
Lovely, lovely video! You're very knowledgeable and you also know how to disseminate your information very effectively. This is what I needed this morning! I have a very sweet pineapple sitting on my dining table and I am going to plant the head as per your video. But I think I will use a mix of cocopeat and regular soil (50-50 mix) in a small container for the next 2-3 months before transplanting it in my garden. Hyderabad climate may not be conducive for pineapple; but no harm in trying, right?
My only gripe with pineapples as houseplants is their need for high light and the fact when they are healthy they are razor sharp. Not a problem for my cacti, because I know and see them as hazards. The pineapple just looks like half of my other plants and I always forget, and get cut. I guess I'm just a silly goose. Damn, I guess I'm in for more as "snitches get stitches." :P
We call pineapple’s ananás, and the sugary one is abacaxi (I guess is also easier to grow cause is cheap, and the ananas is quite expansive, they grow them in the middle of the Atlantic, in Azores, which is amazing.
In the Philippines, some don't cut the leaves. Just twist then pull. The other way is your style by cutting it. Do you allow the cuttings to callous before you put it in water? What about rooting hormone? Thank you
this is so cool! :3 i always love growing my own food whenever I can and even though i don't like pineapples this was interesting to watch! i live Qatar which is a desert, so i'm always looking for a way to greenify my space and the pineapple plant looks very pretty. maybe i'll try it!
4:47 I want a spongebob pot. Also this makes me wonder if there is actually a variety of underwater pineapple lol Edit: yes there are in fact pineapples that grow underwater they're called sea pineapples and they're mostly eaten in The Koreas as a side dish with sake
Hello, I dont actually have plants with mosaic virus so I have no experience with that. But its pretty bad and its actually spread by pests. So pest management is the way to prevent it.
Thank you!! I just potted my first pineapple plant after the water stage. If I’m keeping it indoors in a well lit room, how often should I water it and with how much water? Thank you!!
At first you should keep the soil on the moist side as the roots need to adapt slowly to drier soil conditions... ive never grown them indoors before but mine gets very inconsistent watering outdoors and they do just fine. Something tells me they are forgiving when it comes to watering but I would err on the underwatering side if I were you.

Hey! Do I need to change the water while the pineapple is propagating? And do I need to let the crown dry before putting in water?
Change the water only when it becomes really gross... maybe 2-3 weeks
@@onlyplants thank you ❤️

Never had any problem
When they are in water....can they be inside or is outdoors better?
Both are ok as long as they get good bright indirect light 😀

Interesting! I just googled it haha. It seem to be an animal...
How long should I leave it in water?
Until you see decent sized roots. Its quite fast I would say 5-6 weeks 😀
Does it have to stay in water that long?
It should stay until the main roots have secondary branches that appear.
