My father was a volunteer EMT for the Brinnon Washington Fire Department. I remember coming home from school on the bus and he was giving my friends grandfather mouth to mouth resuscitation after he had sustained a massive heart attack, the poor guy had vomited but that didn't deter my father. Sadly, he passed away in January of 1996, I miss him every waking day.
You can really tell someone’s character by how they view these kinds of experiences. Bruce, you saw some great things and most importantly you valued the human connections you made along the way. Glad you made it back safe! Hopefully your friends are recovering quickly. P.S. Beard. Yes. That’s all.

One of my closest friends from college died from a motorcycle accident just a few months ago. Those things can be so dangerous, even when you think you’ve taken all the precautions. Glad you’re safe, Bruce, and I hope the two who got hurt make a speedy recovery! ❤

Hey Bruce or as I like to refer to you ; 'Better call Saul' good to know your friend is going to pull through eventually. the trip sounded great. Things happen and you went straight to your friends aid which is the best thing. Reminds me of being in combat way back when. If you do what you can in those moments for your friend that is best mindset for you, reflect, learn from it and then back too it. Never dwell on it. I guess the best possible thing for your mindset was the 3 of you who were left rode on. I think mentally best thing you could do even if you had to. But to truly LIVE and enjoy your life, and be able to look back over the years with fond memories, and few regrets, you have to recognize that we are all mortal beings. If our number is up, it’s time to go. So don’t sit on the sidelines playing it safe and choose not to participate in your life because you might die! Acknowledge the risks, but embrace all of the rewards. Drink in all of the beauty your eyes can see. A tiny humming birds’ first flight. Ombré colored layers of mountains surrounding you in all directions. A brand new fawn trying to stand on its wobbly legs. There is nothing quite like the aroma of balsam, cedar, alpines… boughs laden with new fallen snow. Or the sound and distinct earthy scent of a whitewater river thundering over boulders, throwing mist on the wind into your face. Breathe in the fragrance as if it’s your first breath. Imagine all of the marvelous things you can experience if you just take a chance. Live in the moment! It could be your last. Or not! But when your ride is over, you better have enjoyed it, because nobody is going to step up and give you a ticket for another round.
