Its such a ridiculous cope I cant even wrap my brain around it. Since the industrial revolution weve been slowly moving towards the redundancy of the majority of most humans. This is not the fault of capitalism. This is not the fault of socialism. This is the fault (and arguably inevitable result) of human predilections. Barring some sort of genuinely massive calamity, there is no staving this off. There is no reversal. Only the inevitable march of progress, which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on how things shake out for individuals and their social network in the near future.

For anyone with wondering why he would show how to install and use it. He is also disturbed by the implications, It’s like a very informative genuine PSA y’all. There will be, if not already, hundreds of tutorials on how to do this. He is spreading awareness as the title suggests, be wary of anything you see online these days. Always think critically about what information you’re being force fed (what you see on your accounts IS referred to as “your feed”).😅
He demonstrated how easy it is for anyone to quickly install with the basic skills and equipment so we fully understand that. I am not tech savvy so I may have thought it’s surely beyond the scope of others such as myself. However, I now understand that is not the case. Any dim witted Ne’re-do-well with access to such equipment can utilize it for nefarious means.

The only thing that could save us from this is having counter-measures with AI designed specifically to analyze media and determine if another AI made it - but, of course, this means that there will be an ever-escalating arms race between people trying to make more convincing and difficult to detect deepfakes, and others attempting to develop better detection software.

We have to just cross our fingers that model quality plateaus hard and never improves past a certain point - which is actually reasonable at this point without a completely different method being tried, since most of these models use literally all the data on the internet to train, so they can’t improve via adding more training data.

You can make some great parody content with this. Play some cute harmless jokes on friends. Also possibly could be used for people to stay anonymous in videos without having to show no human face or wear a mask. But I do agree that most use cases are nefarious.
I'm not sure what can really be done about it though. Governments could ban the creation and use and probably should, but people are going to develop the software to do this somewhere. It's not something that takes insane financial resources or a vast team of people. I guess the other path to take could be to severely restrict GPU/CPU technology to the public. You already see some of this with US banning some GPUs from China. But I don't think that's very realistic.

      Should have always had this.
Scams that, for example, try to trick people into believing a relative is in jail and needs bail money have existed forever.
People act like this didn't exist before AI, but no. It absolutely has. Since the phone existed, basically.
Phone audio is not that great, old people (who are usually the target of all scams) don't hear as well anyway, And those same older people are usually the grandparents who aren't around the person as much to know exactly what their grandchild sounds like.
AI may theoretically help convince more people that the thing is real, but those people should know that this scam is an old one and not trust it regardless of AI existing.
