    Why do you think the engineers at Toyota didn't design this engine with a timing chain?

      They did. My 2012 Tacoma v6 has a timing chain.

    Tip 1: Sire it's the rule you always start at the crank pulley and go around water pump, then on the cams!
    Tip 2: after 2 turns the engine by hand you don't get the marks on the belt in the same spot. Only the marks on the pulleys !

    how about slitting the old belt longitudinally while its in place, cutting from the smooth side. The cut off the inner loop. Slide out loop to inside position. Then start the new belt - slide it half way on. Then cut off remaining old belt and slide new belt all the way over its pulleys. This is a Miata forum trick.

      I have been searching UA-cam for good tips on how to replace a timing belt on the Tacoma v6 and I think yours is the best on I have found. Doing it this way there’s no way any pulleys could move out of time ⌛️.

    @Toyota Maintenance. Thank you Professor Peter for today's lesson with those tips and tricks for replacing the timing belt on a Tacoma. While it's a maintenance item, having a lift definitely helps.
    Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

      The Salt n Pepper technicians say stick with Authentic " Made in Japan" for Critical parts. Nissan, Inc pumps made in Japan are more robust than Aisin pumps made in USA. I'm sorry, but that's what is being said Peace.

    Advancing those cam sprockets is a lot easier if you have all of the spark plugs removed. There's no sense in fighting compression when doing timing jobs, just thought that was worth a mention. Cheers🍻

    Thank you very much. I’m doing this job myself on my 97 Tacoma after calling a local toyota shop who refuses to work on cars older than 20 years. How about that? I’m proficient and have worked on many BMW’s and Hondas so feeling pretty good.

    A mechanic told me a trick of his. Whenever you touch the timing system of any engine, put it back together and turn it over at least two crank rotations, as is said in this video. But the important thing is, do it BY HAND!!!! Turn the engine with a breaker bar, NOT with the starter. Go around as many times as necessary for you to be comfortable that everything is good. If you feel resistance, STOP!
    If you have the timing wrong, you can catch it this way without doing damage. Never mind running the engine, even cranking with the starter can bend valves if they hit the pistons. Valve stems are pretty small, and won't take much of a hit.
    ua-cam.com/video/hFs91VXnEHY/v-deo.html Here's a video that covers that. At about eight and a half minutes, you'll see the crank sprocket has multiple marks on it, but obviously, only one is right. In this case, it was put on the wrong mark, and valves were bent just by cranking with the starter.

      I second this. PETER: HOW DO YOU LOOSEN AND TIGHTEN THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY?

    • @joecia7
      @joecia7 3 роки тому

      There’s a special tool/bar that bolts onto the crankshaft pulley and has a hole in the center for the socket, so you can tighten or loosen the crankshaft bolt.

    • @iamtheman7018
      @iamtheman7018 3 роки тому +1

      @@iamtheman7018 that's cool, I made my own also, but the screws were a tiny bit to short and I actually separated the pulley from the rubber/harmonic balancer🤦‍♂️. So I ended up buying a new harmonic balancer pulley assembly.

    Thank you so much for putting out a video again today. Very nice to learn this trick today!
    I saw something in your video for your protection. I hope you are okay and nobody is trying yo harm you.
    I would think big strong guy like you nobody would want to mess with, hope everything is okay. It is good to have around.
    Also small matter, but it may be a "Mitsuboshi" belt. Unlike the common Mitsubishi brand.

    Buddy you never answered my question , how come when I’m driving my 1996 4 runner at high speeds it seems to be restricted and it stops accelerating then kicks back on . My gf 2006 sequoia does the same thing , but my 2002 Tacoma doesn’t have then restriction’ full send ! So can you tell me what might be the cause of that and how can I remove it ? So I don’t give the rival ford ranger a chance to catch up while I’m blowing them away !
