- Turns out there is a Wish Clone of the Wish Klone. A ripoff of the ripoff if you will. And it's not perfect, there is something wrong with it. Here we explore the difference between the pedals and talk about where to get which one.
As infamous as the Klon Centaur Professional Overdrive from Bill Finnegan is, the Wish Klon Clone has taken on its own infamy for being a $35 - $60 dollar version of a pedal that's literally a hundred times more expensive.

Great video, thank you! i just wanted to note that I have the cnklone_ version and using the initial "clean" setting (as shown around the 2:30 mark) the pedal sounds as dark as the one in the video. However, as soon as you turn the gain up just a little, a lot of the missing treble sort of comes back. With my set up at least, treble unity comes with the knob set at around 12 o'clock (so it is still darker than the us dream version), but it does provide a treble boost from the median point and onwards. That's probably why at higher gain settings there is less of a difference in treble frequencies between the two pedals.
Yeah, I kind of know that in the video. Like I said I think the way the tone of interacts with the signal is a little different but also when you turn up the game… It’s turning up all of the frequency range, so naturally there is going to be a bit of a treble raise along with the rest of the frequency range.
As an update, I did the mod as suggested in your video and now the pedal is much more open sounding, treble unity comes much earlier and you notice a significant treble boost, particularly at the last quarter of the pot’s taper. Owners of the black PCB klone should definitely check the video and do the mod. Many thanks for your klone research and videos :)

In my latest video I actually explain that it might be up in the air, but that video has the fix for the black pcb board if you end up with that one.
I bought two of these before seeing your video. I ordered one silver and one gold. The silver one came from US dreams and the gold one came from cnklone. When they arrived I noticed they both shipped from the same seller. They both came from cnklone. So both of them have the same tone knob defect. Great informative video, but just because you think you are ordering from one seller doesn’t mean they will honor that. OK enough of my rant, great video.

first one I got was from Y-factory Clone. When I plugged it in I got a low sizzle noise no matter if the pedal was on or off. I complained to wish about the bleed and they refunded me. I then ordered from USdream2016 because of your videos and now that pedal works fine just how i wanted and it's on my board. good luck everyone. The china klon clone game is a harsh mistress

So I bought one before finding your channel (of course) and now I'm worried I bought the wrong one. Got it from a store called TTONE and it looks like their brand's being sold through different shop names. What's more confusing too, is that the product's photo has no chinese characters, but the customer reviews are hit or miss with it. Since I don't have one to compare with, any specific things to check? I would think a green chipboard and tone acting as a boost would be good signs? thanks man!
If the tone does in fact boost then you got a good one. Fortunately from what I’ve seen this is the only difference in the end result. You may want to check my other video “wish Klon clone buying guide”

I just got my wish (silver)klon with the logo but without the chinese letters...It hast the black circuitboard (y-factory) and NOT the one that was displayed in the picture...x(
but actually, i tried your settings, and when i turn to "idle", it sounds the same as bypassed, and trebleknob actually boosts the treble quite a bit...
dunno if it comes close to the original but it seems like something changed here...
(btw. all the vendors on wish seem to be the "ttone music shop" right now...)
.... meaning, i cant really find the "Usdream2016" vendor..
They actually fixed their pedals, a newer video of mine showed how to fix them and they’ve taken it and ran with it, as far as I know now this is only an issue for those who got the pedal before they started fixing themz

It took 7 wish Klon centaur clones but it looks like my research here is concluded for the time being, unless I can get the inside scoop on more of the behind the scenes stuff with these pedals
But I’m glad it’s helpful for people out there, and I have a daunting number of the same pedal as my decoration’s center piece
Any knowledge about mine? I got a gold one from "dewesa" on wish, pcb board is reverse than yours (components on other side, not visibile without removing) and a little "tm" next to centaur logo, which i find amusingly ironic.
I actually talked about that one in my previous video, where I go over more of the variations of what you can find on Wish. Bottom line, aside from what you’ve already noted as well as the input and output jacks on the sides as opposed to on top I haven’t heard inappreciable difference between that pedal and the ones I got from USdream2016. While it certainly comes from a different maker it seems like they got the circuit right.

No, they both sell the yellow, the big sign is the color of the PCB board in the back, but my big recommendation here is to be aware of what store you’re buying it from.

Hence why I’m saying to get it from USdream2016 as so far they’ve consistently sold the right one.
Well, just got my usdream2016 klone today and wow it does sound totally different and the tone Knob definitely works differently.
The crew at church won’t know what to think when I show up with two on the board this week haha.

Gonna get the CN Kline also for the battery option. I don’t need a big treble boost.
My newest video shows how to mod the cnklone (now TTone) so that the treble is the same, it’s really easy

I could be wrong, but I THINK the CNKlone is either "broken" or has the wrong resistors and capacitors in the "TONE" control... Of course, a Tone control is just resistors and capacitors working together as a high pass filter, and if you put the "wrong" resistors in there, it's gonna alter the frequency of the high pass... and even with the Tone control ALL the way up, to me it STILL doesn't have as much high end as your bypassed signal...
It was an issue with the topology of the circuit, I have a more recent video that shows how to fix it- basically two points just need to be soldered together, it’s super easy
i bought one for 40 on FB and it has like no overdrive...its leika boost and i cant hardly turn up my vol without it getting insanely loud but not gainy or dirty...like a bad loud....
Considering these are all kits made by hand (assuming you got the right one) there’s always the unfortunate chance someone messed up making it, but I would note that Klones aren’t really supposed to be hi gain monsters, half of how I use it is more for the boost to push my amp

I got the CNClone for FREE because of this Treble Control defect...I reported it to Wish and they refunded my money. HAHAHAHAH. Then, I fixed it and ordered the USDream2016 Klon pedal; 2 for $40.
Can you add an EQ pedal. I have a feeling a lot of this is mythologizing, and if you simply add that treble boost with an EQ after the shitty klone, you again wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I could be *very* wrong. There is only one way to find out.

I’m only judging against how well it lines up against the OG, not having a real treble boost precludes it from being a “real” Klone whether you can get the same effect with an EQ pedal or not.
It would be interesting to try, though I somehow don’t have an EQ pedal 😂😂, but we would need to know where in the signal flow the treble boost is, if it’s pre-clean boost (which I think it is) or pre distortion (which I don’t think it is) then it’s not gonna behave the same way as it won’t interact with the rest of the circuit the same way.
My dad bought the TTone Klon. It's shown as the one with the green board and no Chinese writing. however he was sent the Y Factory Klon with the black board and writing. Not impressed with them for sending the wrong product
Unfortunately this is why you gotta pay attention to which store you buy from.
Also something you need to know, a couple weeks I found out that the store that was selling the right one has stopped carrying any products on wish. I just rechecked, and it’s still the case… so as of right now I can’t say which store you should buy from, your best bet to get the right one is to buy the kit on Amazon.

@@BGBSATX thinking about it, the treble control is more like a low pass filter. When it's turned all the way to the right, the filter is disengaged. When turning it to the left, it's filtering out the high end.
You could use them as paper weights and buy a Caline Pegasus instead.
Hahaha, uh…. I’ve done the initial research for a follow up to my Klon Klone Wars video, and the Pegasus actually comes up short.

@@ck2music712 I’d need to check it again but one of the knobs didn’t deliver the right results for a Klone, either the output or the treble.
I am becoming a big fan of the Zeus drive, identical to the wish Klones but that fat switch is a super welcome addition. The Nux Horseman like wise is nigh identical but the silver mode is… interesting, though not as cool as the Zeus drive IMO.
I still have my Mosky from doing the Klon Clone Wars vid, it’s a good pedal in its own right but the breakup and some other stuff didn’t sound right to me in the shootout, so I mean… sure good pedal not good Klon Klone IMO
@@ck2music712 just rechecked the Pegasus and yeah there’s no treble boost it’s just a tone knob.
To be clear since apparently my way of saying it has set some folks off- I’m not saying it’s necessarily a bad pedal but if we are discussing which Klones are more accurate to the OG then yeah the Pegasus doesn’t treble boost which is a pretty important part of the Klon.

So, you're sayin that the original Centaurs that Finnegan built have a Treble boost in the tone control that's not a passive, subtractive EQ, but an actual active boost that ADDS treble to your sound? And you were judging these modern inexpensive klones on whether or not they had the same kinda thing goin on, right?
I ordered the cnklone before seeing your video, like a dick ... this morning ... so I ordered the us dream after seeing your video, ahah, the treble side on the us dream seems to be a lot more accurate with the real Klon, nevermind, it's time to start a wish Klone collection, but I doubt they will be cost 4000 bucks in twenty years ;)

@@BGBSATX I come back to guitar after a nearly 50 year hiatus. Dang, 50 years!...where did the time go...better late than never I guess. After such a long time away, it feels like I forgot everything that I ever knew about guitar, but it is slowly coming back. We are all still learning the instrument. Even the self-proclaimed "experts", as well as the "guitar heroes" who practice before going on tour and warm up before every performance.
