Trad./Jack Loh: "Canton Folk Song Suite"
Merry Go Round (_A youngster would prefer to go play and spin in the garden rather than to go with their parents to see the Dragon Boats during the Dragon Boat Festival._)
Heavy Rain (_A pair of children selling their family wares in a rainstorm focus happily on the brightly colored shoes and clothing of the young girl._)
Take a Bath (_A simple song encouraging bathing._)
Moonlight Bright (_A lullaby in which an older family member sings fondly to a young sibling to hurry and grow up to help with the family’s workload._) This song dates back around 1000 years to the Song and Ming Dynasties.
Finale (_A closing movement integrating all the song melodies into a rousing finale. The piece closes with the intonation of “gaii gong laam,” a familiar call of street vendors selling “rooster olives.”_)

In 1978 the Tellefsen Hall Directors at UC Berkeley commissioned Jonathan Elkus (Director of the UC Davis bands from 1993 to 2003) to compose UC Berkeley's "Cal Band March" in memory of Chris Tellefsen, an employee of the Associated Students of the University of California who worked closely with the Cal Band from the 1920’s through the 1960’s. Originally known as "Go California," it was arranged by Elkus and Larry Austin, who had also served as UC Davis's Concert Band Director from 1958 to 1972. This is a new concert edition, retitled "Go California" with contributions from Kai Boennighausen, who received his bachelor's degree in music from UC Berkeley in 2023.
