Honestly the most frustrating part about this movie is how often the pilots communicate strategy with eachother. I mean, I get that it's the whole concept of teamwork and such, but did the writers completely forget that the pilot's brains are literally connected?
For me it was the inconsistency with the mass of the robots, one moment you've got a heavy looking duty Jaeger and then the next it's moving unrealistically fast even for advanced technology (if there was any improvements at all to the previous) could plausibly do, I don't care how mang thrusters, servos, gears, or speed enhancing modules fromt the future you have mass will evidently cause it to move slow still. In the first movie you could feel the power behind that punch, you could feel Gipsy Danger as she was tossed or as she fell, in this movie it feels like that power in their mass jumped ship.

@@jammygamer8961 they honestly should've moved like Stryker Eureka, I'd argue to have them a bit more bulkier like Stryker Eureka was as well. In the first film they managed to make it move fast but kept that heavy and powerful feel to it. It made the fast, new and more advanced Jeager still believable. Eureka alone kinda makes all of the other Jeagers in the second film a laughing stock.

They did a great job of showcasing how heavy these boys are….for about six seconds until they started fighting.
Thats why November Ajax was one of the better Jaegers from this movie. You could feel it’s weight
@@IvoryTheGuy8150 i keep hearing this "but they don't feel heavy" but like, don't they upgrade the mechs to be lighter but still strong so they are more agile and capable of fighting? beacuse it is indeed pretty badass to feel the weight of em big boys, but from a technical vew point it's not that efficient since they are slower therefore less capable of fighting?
since the monsters evolve to be stronger and more agile then it would make sense that we would also try to make the mechs lighter with new technology's and shit, just my vew point beacuse them being lighter in the second movie kinda makes sense since the mechs are being upgraded over time due to advances im technology no?

The most unbelievable thing in the entire movie is that frozen lake being strong enough for these huge mechs to walk on it, but have a complete fight on it.
and Avenger slide across the ice, the ice has to be thick as an iceburg for that to even remotely work

i think one of the (many) reasons uprising didn't feel the same was because they treated the camera as this weightless omnicient point of reference, whereas the original mostly treated the camera like it was also a physical object, moving with it's own slight sense of weight.
Totally agree. As silly as the original was, it showed restraint when it came to how the camera moved and that greatly helped to ground the action.

Same as the new Goji movies. 2014 felt HEAVY but the newer movies even though they still perfectly portray how large the monsters are the weight just doesn't feel the same.

Jaegers have pilots tho...
It's as "alive" as any other Kaiju, which is not much at all. They are all biological drones. They are built and operated by the precursors from within the Anteverse. In that regard, they are no different than the Jaegers. Them being biological robots doesn't make them any more alive than the Jaegers are.
The jeagors also feel it because they are suppose to link with there robot so they can do the same as they can human so in the first pacific rim movie when they got a arm severed off on there robot they were in distress but in uprising they didn’t show a very good job of that because in one of the scenes the robot got ripped to shreds and the jeagors inside weren’t in distress which is why this movie sucks so bad
I was really hoping that there’d be a sort of civil war amongst Jaegers in this movie. The name “Uprising” makes it sound like some rogue Jaegers would be the ones opening the breaches WITH human pilots.

There were plans to make a comic book series with a Jaeger arms race & cloned Kaijus, but only the first book was finished.

Not to mention that the movie introduces these anti-PPDC protestors wearing kaiju masks at the beginning and they don't build upon that whatsoever. How cool would it have been if Obsidian Fury had human pilots and they were part of this rebellious organization with an unknown objective?

People keep bringing up more time=better tech=better speed.
While true to an extent, there is a balance that must be struck, the jager Stryker eureka is a good example, agile and much faster than other jagers but it doesn’t lose its weight. It still feels like a several million ton killing machine. This movie is also very inconsistent with damage. One minute there barely denting or scratching each other the next Gypsie literally plows their fist through Obsidians chest. And the environment only seems to take damage when the fight calls for it to do so.

Exactly!!! I lot of people forget that this movie is set into the future of the pacific rim timeline so Jeager tech has had the opportunity to evolve as time went on, making them faster then they were before.

Striker Eureka also fought with her fists closer to her body in the first movie, allowing her to move even faster. This lent her the feeling of speed without compromising her feeling of weight. Jaegers in the second movie didn't move with this in mind.

I finally think I understand the purpose of Mako’s message to the PPDC, I always wondered how Newton could secretly make a whole jaeger without anyone knowing, and why the decommissioned site was important, but that must’ve been what and where Newton used to make Obsidian Fury, he used the site to make a core, and probably the rest of the body

Steven DeKnight also said there was a deleted scene that was Newt holograming himself into the control room where Gottlieb and co. were monitoring the battle, and said "you wanna see what else I was building in Siberia?" And activates the Rippers that fuse the Kaiju together. Those were the "weird readings" Jake was getting.

Came from watching the fights in the first movie. This are shit in comparison.
In the original the jaegers and kaijus moved accordingly to their environment. Here are just gigantic robots fighting in ice.

In the first film, the pilots' rigs gave them the force feedback to move in tandem with their jaeger's movements.
They're sprinting with regard to their own movements much faster than the unit's legs move. It's like they've never piloted a giant mech before...

There was also a lack of constant jump cutting between conpod and jaeger. Where it synced up the movements between Jaeger and pilot. Some of the cuts here make it almost like they are flailing around and the Jaeger is doing something. The pilots barely sync with each other. There was a precision they had to follow in the first movie.

I think one of the main reasons nobody likes the second move is because the jeagers move too fast, they don't feel like giant robots anymore
Among some major writing, storyline and dialogue flaws, I think what turned most people off was how fluid the movements of these jaegers were, they were too human like. In the first one you could feel the sheer size and weight of those machines, especially Cherno Alpha, these ones literally look and move like toys or cartoons
Girl 1: "He asked me if I want to be his girlfriend, but I refused since we're childhood friends and I don't want to ruin it."

The fact jaegers are light weight compared to the first really gave a boost to the speed, plus it's technology, what do you except? It improves hella quickly.
First Jaegers were slower, especially in water, and kaijus were fast.. After ten years they clearly had to fix that.
Plus if Gipsy Avenger didn't get this speed update, she would have been defeated (entirely) by the very first battle with Obsidian Fury.

I hate how fast the jaegers move in this one. In the original, the jaeger’s movements were slow and deliberate, as a giant robots movements would be. This just looks like a couple of guys in Iron Man cosplay.

I don't like how fast they move. Kind of takes away from the size of these machines.
So there’s many things fundamentally wrong with this movie. A) All the weight is gone, and yes they explain it with “advancements in Jaeger technology” but that doesn’t dismiss them hopping around like rabbits.
B) The Jaegers no longer have individuality, what made them badass is that they were all characters themselves. The Russian jaeger is fucking huge and bulky, while the Chinese was piloted by triplets, and had a third arm. Only the Japanese jaeger has a sword because they were trained in swords. Now this guy has a sword, that guy has a sword, obsidian fury has two swords.
C) So much Chinese pandering, all the Japanese character die and Japan is destroyed, but then Mama China swoops in and saves the day, it’s so obvious on later watchthroughs it was only done em for the Chinese movie market. Not even mentioning the downplay if black characters and their importance in the marketing over there.

the director's choice for these ridiculously far wide shots in this movie opposed to the cinematography we got in the first movie is one of the biggest red flags among others that just shows how much the person directing this movie didn't seem to understand or appreciate the source material whatsoever.

it actually has some good plot twists in it and a bit of good action direction too it's just that the jaegers just feels less weighty, lacks the punch and "oomph" the first one had, and has just too slick of an aesthetic unlike the OG's.

Although some people says Pacific Rim Uprising is bad but this is a place we can see epic battle of Giant robots fighting Giant robots.
It ain't bad as a movie of its own, the problem is that the first movie is a masterpiece, it has soul, meaning and great storytelling. Uprising is just that, giant robots fighting, the moment you start watching the movie you already know how it's gonna end.
The thing I really hate is that in the second movie, the Jaegers fights are more human than giant robots, specifically power rangers.
to me the first pacific rim will always be better because this is really just an unnecessary sequel and it doesn't give the characters time to develop but we somehow see they've formed a friendship by the end of the movie when they didn't really do anything and making one of the most important characters from the last movie the main bad guy is kinda just lame because it doesn't fit his character at all

If only the story of this film, ended here and added to the climax, it would be a very good film
Yeah when I watched the 1st Pacific Rim I thought the fight scenes were incredible. And when I went to the movies and watch the 2nd Pacific Rim I found the fight lacking. To me they had too many new characters.. The fight scenes didn't have the same Amount of Yeah will to fight. For example gypsy danger versus otachi Was one of the best fights in the 1st movie. I'm not sure if it's just me but I'm not really a fan of the 2nd movie

Kinda ironic Gypsy ripped off obsidians face and pulled out it’s heart (Or energy core). Just like Optimus did killing the fallen
Pacific rim 2 lacks the cold dark realistic feel of the original, it just wants to capitalize on the popularity of the first film
