I fucking hate how Marines are used as Props and only show up in fights to immediately die, like they have the same weapons as Spartans but I guess their bullets aren't as strong and can't one shot Elites like Silver Team...
i feel you they butchered them, elites are supposed to be able to face of against spartans and at least have a 50 50 chance of winning at least anything above minor
Season 2 should start with Chief in full Mk V armor waking up in a cryo tube while a technician says: “Sorry for the quick thaw Master Chief, things are a little hectic right now. You may have experienced some stranger dreams but they should pass soon.” And then Chief just nods without saying anything, and the story is just CE again but with more dialogue.
The person from 343 that approved these changes for this adaptation Kiki Wolfkill, must be so misguided on what she thinks halo should be. The show runners went to her with these bizarre changes and she just blindly approved them. The result is a show that wears its halo name with shame.
OMG, now I know who greenlit the show. Thank you. I personally loved Halo 4, and the direction it took Chief, but man.... I can't believe she'd approve what we got for the show... Makes me sad, honestly.
You mentioned how it feels like a fan fic, except a fan fic would have been much closer to the cannon lore and be possible to put in to the lore without scrapping more than half of said lore
He compared it to a fan made video because it doesn’t present itself like a 90 million dollar tv show. He mentions that the writing is piss poor and the cinematography and visuals are amateur at best.
This is the most accurate review I've seen. The problem was not only being a bad adaptation. Its a bad sfi and drama.. Looks proposufully made to fail. I just cant belive someone test watched this and didnt cancel it. The only solution I see is ''Special Editing'' this mess to reduce damage. Make it into a 3 episode ''pilot'' and reboot the series from there.
@Devil Zion How much does Parmount pay you to say stupid things like that. And I'm sure that Halo Fans will stop watching the show and it will be canceled. Plus just like you everyone gets an opinion.
The funniest thing about the insurrectionist in this “halo” show, is that through out the series the unsc treat the alien threat as nothing more of an inconvenience to the point that the war might as well be propaganda like the insurrectionist think it is. So much so that they have no problems with cutting funding to the research of alien technology and are focusing more on capturing some nameless nobody Asian girl who poses absolutely no threat to them at all, to the point where even idiots would laugh at how dumb this whole concept is. It’s even made more blatantly apparent when it’s made clear that only the Spartans pose any real threat to the aliens, and despite this known fact they still want to cut more founding and destroy the spartan program all together. They want to destroy the only real weapon they have against the aliens while hunting down a girl that clams the war is nothing more then propaganda. With the way the unsc is behaving the war with the aliens is without a doubt propaganda, except for the fact that they really are at war with the aliens and are obviously losing. But apparently they just couldn’t care less, to the point of cutting all founding on the only weapon known to work against the aliens. The people who made this horrible parody of “halo” can only admit to one of two things ; either they hate halo and it’s fanbase with a passion, or they are so bad at their job that their lack of logical thinking and common sense couldn’t be fixed without scraping the whole project. I feel sorry for everyone involved in the project that didn’t know what was going on. Because after the 15 minute pilot everyone was probably shown, they were tricked into making the kwan show and every episode was somehow worse then the last. It’s like they learned how to write and produce a show for the creator of “the room”.
They pretty much admitted that they hate the fanbase, one of the people involved with the show more or less said that the fanbase was an obstacle that held back what they wanted to do. They didn't make this show for the fans, they made it to somehow try to bring show-watchers into the franchise and get more money from them.
The Terran federation looks highly competitive compared to the UEG and UNSC, the bloody Terran Federation! They had at been effective in countering the arachnids, developing gear and tactics against them, etc.
@@AzureRoxe well maybe they'll lead that they'll get more money if they stay true to whatever franchise they attempt to bring to the screen and listen to the fanbase. They're stupid for thinking there would be no repercussions for what they did
Just because it exists doens't mean you have to watch it if you feel this way. How is having more options a bad thing? This show existing doesn't taking anything away from anything else.
"dont like it, dont watch it" has to be the most narrow-minded idea since religion. The people replying so far dont get how one bad product sets the standard for future products, EXACTLY like 343 has been doing throughout their whole lifetime. Not only does it promote bad quality, but breaks the hearts of millions who enjoyed Halo because of what it was. A product where in the creator's minds "good enough" wasnt good enough.
Halo: Forward Unto Dawn still gives me a lot of hope that a live action Halo can be a good success. This Halo Tv series should have taken away one of the biggest lessons of the FUD miniseries did right: Halo is a huge universe, you don't have to make a series about the MC or other huge characters in the Halo lore like Halsey, Miranda and Jacob keys, etc. Tbh I think I'd much more would have preferred a series on ODST's or even UNSC Marines other than main character Spartans and commanders.
Bungie understood that Halo is more than just Spartans and a few characters, 343 doesn't understand that. In Halo 5 theres 0 marines, and in Infinite they're there but don't actually fight with you in any story missions.
Fr, would've been epic if it followed a squad of marines fighting the covenant, with Masterchief as a side character that shows up right as the marines are about to catch a terminal case of no longer breathing, kicks alien ass, refuses to speak so much as a word, then dips out into slipspace.
Oooooh! A Halo series focusing on a group of UNSC Marines trapped behind enemy lines, maybe a brief appearance from a Spartan. Not MC necessarily, just a Spartan II in general. I’d watch that.
It’s mind blowing that the live action halo movie “Halo: Forward until dawn” is not only 100x better than the big budget show but it’s actually free on UA-cam.
Not gonna lie. This show became kind of a guilty pleasure to watch. I knew it was bad but I couldnt wait to see what else they would mess up. The sheer stupidity of it kept me engaged.
The Room: Halo edition So bad it's good. You watch it to laugh and cringe. Anyone watching it seriously or is invested in the story is either ignorant to the franchise or is a blind fanboy/fangirl. This series is a mark of shame on the franchise, it's surprising that it was even greenlit. I'm convinced it was a momey laundering scheme to pay executives, because it is no where near the quality >10mil an episode should bring and the plot is on par with Tumblr fanfiction.
it is exactly the same with Obi-Wan, watching 1st episode with "wtf" expression for 45min, 2nd episode with ironic smile and occasional face palm and Benny Hill music playing in my head seeing some action on screen, 3rd episode I only managed half way in before switching it off I don't know where they recruit those writers from, but they seem to come from the exact same place - and have absolutely zero talent and are all about woke, I guess that is how you graduate from whatever uni they went to these days
And we all thought Halo 5 had a bad story.... This show makes Halo 5 look like a master piece! Edit: I'm not saying Halo 5 had a good story. It certainly was downright terrible, but this show is just a lot worse.
Thank you... lol I get why people hate 5, but I still really like many aspects of it. The fact that it has Blue Team basically makes my eyes water, as I've been dying to have them in a Halo game, or AT THE LEAST mentioned, for so damn long. It drove me absolutely INSANE, hearing the Bungie era games say Chief is "the last spartan" for all those years. To finally see them acknowledged was amazing. Halsey too!
I commented this on another video, but I’ll say it again: Me looking back at Halo 5 after watching the Halo TV Show: “Perhaps I treated you too harshly.”
Anyone see the theory that Halo was originally going to be a Mass Effect show? Theory goes that the show was written for Mass Effect, but they [Paramount and EA/BioWare] couldn't come to an agreement and lost the rights for Mass Effect to Amazon. Paramount had the rights to Halo, so they just took the script and adapted the characters to be a Halo show. The general focus on internal, smaller-scale human conflicts, intergalactic politics, and relationships with the bigger alien threat building largely in the background. The Covenant’s motives and reasons for attacking humanity being built up as a mystery like how Mass Effect makes a big deal out of nobody knowing why the Reapers do what they do (in contrast to the Halo games, where the Covenant’s motives are more or less known from the start). Also, how the Covenant aren’t really humanized in comparison to the games, being portrayed more like inscrutable beings using brainwashed human servants like the Reapers. The frank depictions and discussions of sex and nudity. Halo’s generally always avoided outright sexual content beyond the occasional silly joke (e.g., “he was my lover!”), whereas Mass Effect never shied away from that subject. The sheer fact that Master Chief fucks at all, and especially that he fucks a woman aligned with the aliens (and is speculated by some to be originally intended AS an alien). Fucking aliens is one of the bread-and-butters of Mass Effect, but can you ever imagine that in a Halo game beyond obvious non-canon gags like Johnson hugging the Elite in CE? The portrayal of AIs. Cortana is a mix of EDI (AI made by morally dodgy group that slowly aligns with the good guys) and SAM from Andromeda (implanted into Chief’s nervous system rather then just carried in a chip like in the games). More vaguely, the Spartans’s portrayal as basically human robots “rediscovering their humanity” feels eerily similar to the Geth and their whole arc of developing individuality, with Chief filling the role of Legion. Halsey acts a lot like a female Illusive Man, manipulating people for “the greater good” and lacking a lot of her more sympathetic traits from the games. Similarly, the guy playing Captain Keyes looks and acts A LOT more like Captain Anderson from Mass Effect (seriously, Danny Sapani is the perfect pick Anderson aside from getting Keith David to reprise the role; he’d be an amazing casting choice if this were a Mass Effect show). And just to cap it off, this Makee character is suspiciously similar to Benezia, serving the villains, the sex appeal, and it would explain why so many people get the vibe that she was intended as an alien. The fact that the whole plot is kicked off when Master Chief goes to colony to find it was attacked by aliens and touches an ancient alien device that gives him a vision… just like Commander Shepard going to Eden Prime and touching the Beacon at the start of Mass Effect. The way Parangosky is portrayed, arguing with and seeking respect from a Council while also covering for undercover black ops stuff would make a lot more sense as the Citadel Council and the whole subplot in Mass Effect of humanity having to prove themselves as newcomers who have only just got onto the Council (which would also explain Parangosky being made a lot nicer then in canon Halo; she’s a stand-in for the first human councilor in Mass Effect, taking elements from both Anderson and Udina). Kwan and the Madrigal subplot feel ever so similar to Tali and the Quarians (younger girl from a culture on the outskirts of galactic society leaves home and ends up working with her peoples’s perceived enemy and learning they’re not so different - again, lining up with the ”Spartans as Geth” idea). Kwan also seems to take a bit after Ashley, being survivor of the heretic Geth Covenant attack on Eden Prime her hometown and having similar ”angry tough girl” characterization.
They already had a script that had nothing to do with Halo ready to go. They changed a few things that make it """work""" and then bought up the Halo IP for an established market. They are doing stuff like this all the time recently and once you recognize it you will see it in everything.
Kudos! I think youre onto something, this should be talked about waaay more and is enough of a topic for many many videos. The way "hollywood" handles new media has been clear for quite sometime now, streamlined products, make it "work" aka remove any features that make it unique aka "polish" its edges until it fits our smooth/generic script which we dont need to make all over again since its the one we keep recycling all this time, this is so convenient from a product manufacturing standpoint and saves so much time/money, who cares anyway people will probably eat our shit and in a sad way so much people do. We will eat anything you put in front of us even though we know its going to make us puke. Just like misleading and exaggerated titles/thumbnails are often enough to make us click on a video, man the rage inducing cycle all over again.
Someone pointed out that if you changed the characters and setting to Mass Effect, it'd actually be a decent show. It matches up suspiciously well to how Mass Effect does stuff
I honestly think that they came up with the "This is the Silver time-line" excuse after they realized that the fans they originally intended the series to be for actually hated it and decided to back pedal and made the excuse and said it was for a "broader audience" to try and face what little face they could.
They did what Disney did to Star Wars, messed up a set story that was set and had deep lore and cherry pick the few things they wanted from the Games and made their own Story that changed previous foundations and rewriting characters that didn't need to be.
Well?? Disney did not ruin Star Wars as bad as this.. Disney Star Wars actually was still similar.. Mandalorian saved star wars .. This is the next episode of halo tv show ua-cam.com/video/PvNwmEtCBUE/v-deo.html lol
It's a hard choice but I think even the star wars sequels are better than this, but not by much. If that doesn't get the point across then I don't what will.
Agreed completely on every point made here. At this point I suspect their decision to go with a "Silver timeline" and focus more on the Insurrectionists was a cost cutting measure. Rather than costly CGI to render the Covenant races and effects they gave us mainly human antagonists in a story about a genocidal alien threat to humanity....which no one but mostly newbies or casuals wanted.
A starting season based on the insurection COULD work in showing us how spartans feel or are traumatized because S2s are 100% mentally scarred by the deaths of friendly and nonfriendly humans alike. Like it shows the purpose of the spartans and then swaps to the beginning of the war. But no, they gotta ruin big guy and blue lady by making cortana a cuck while chief gets it with covenant lady first name Who last name Cares
@@wastelandlegocheem I could see them incorporating the rebels into the story. In The Fall of Reach they were a considerable threat to the UNSC. The only difference between the book and the show is that the Covenant shows up and surpasses the danger the Insurrectionists posed. You never get that sense that the aliens are more dangerous than the humans on the series. At this point it is what it is though.
Agreed, hell this show could have been about the intersection, and focused on the development of the spartan II, instead of the Human Covant war. We don't see enough mainline content covering it, and would be nice to see.
If I accept that premise. They even fucked that up. Doing that is possible in a way that respects cannon. But you know what you also do. LEAVE THE MASTER CHIEF out of the story. pull it back to the time period AROUND when the spartan 2s were kid napped and make that revelation some sort of mid series reveal. Which then lets you spend time on HUMANIZING the spartan 2s, spend time exploring the backstory of the fore runners and how humanity became what it is. which helps explain what halsey is doing. LIKE THERE IS SUCH A BETTER WAY TO DO THIS THAT I CANNOT ACCEPT THE PREMISE
I've never seen the show and never will... Halo is one of my favorite games and lore ever, and this show has shattered every single piece of what is the greatest si-fi lore ever created
Something about halsey in the tv series looks unsettling to me. Also a tv show based on a series which at its core is about the fun of shooting aliens having minimal scenes where chief shoots at the covenant is probably one of the worst misunderstandings of the source material that i have seen in a video game adaptation
TV Halsey is not only the main antagonist of the first season, but she's also the complete opposite of her canon counterpart: she's awlays smiling and polite but actually doesn't care about anyone but herself. TV Halsey is just a 1-dimensional evil scientist. Also the actress is about the same age than the Spartans when she's supposed to be at least 20 years older than them.
There's nothing inherently wrong with that. With the right context and writing, it could work. It's just that the show lacked either. Look at ODST as an example. If anything, I actually don't want a series focused on a Spartan II. Their everyday life outside of combat would be very, very, boring. That would make a story around them hard to do, which means it would be better off left alone. IIIs, Orion, ODSTs, or anything else besides IIs would allow for a lot more creative freedom. Don't know why they decided to use established and known characters like that. You have to be a master storyteller to pull something like that off.
@@shawnyfull This is true, gene therapy is cannon in Halo, sad that's one sole pieces that carried over in their full effect. As well Halesy as an evil scientist would have worked if you gave them enough depth for it, but they didn't and she feels hollow. The main cannon Halsey felt far more real and tangible than the one we see in this show
Honestly it seems about par for 343's treatment of the character. At least a lot of the media around the time of Halo 4 seemed to be pushing the agenda that Halsey was *the* bad guy responsible for all the moral evils of the spartan project up to and including having the person responsible for the far more morally bankrupt spartan 3 project berating her for her practices.
Oh and you forgot to mention that they wasted atriox in the show. Remember the brute in ep9 and I think 5 as well? Well he was gun down by the cortana controlled pelican. I'm not joking, that is what happened to him
I was thinking it would have been a lot better had they shown the storyline for the brute rather than the human/alien lady or kwon. At least they could have built it up so that by the end you either really wanted chief to curb-stomp him or that you may have at least understood and sympathized with the brute (still ending with chief curb-stomping him). They could have had a gnarly fight scene at the end but instead, they gunned him down with a pelican......
Man, you hit the nail on the head! I had to play some Halo MCC campaign and watch The Fall of Reach just to scrub my mind that nonsense after watching it.
You're a stronger man than I. I couldn't finish it. I love Halo, it's easily my favorite FPS and one of my favorite sci-fi properties in general. If they made an entire series of just Chief saying "I need a weapon" I would have creamed my pants. I couldn't even finish the freaking show...
Also, I just realized that your profile pic is Dean from Iron Giant, but turned into something from Oblivion? Wtf? hahaha the "coffee zilla" scene! Fuck, I love that movie.
i gave up after the first episode. would much rather play the games and blow stuff up my self. i feel the show should be deleted from the internet and from existence
What I find crazy is that there are some minor lore pieces that the show gets spot on, like how normal humans evaporate when hit with a plasma bot or how an Elite can run into a moving vehicle and flip it without breaking stride, or even just how Spartans are capable of running alongside a speeding car. Clearly, some of the writers know the halo lore but I suppose they just got superseded by their bosses who said something along the lines of, "GReEn sPacE MaN neED SeXy TIMe"
My theory is that this show's storyline was written before they slapped the Halo name on it. Once they did that, new people came in and absolutely nailed the looks and action of the Spartans and the Covenant (besides the last episode where elites just run at silver team like a zombie horde without even shooting)
@SaintSchield was more referring to the books and whatnot, (which are often considered more canonically accurate than the games, which is a little weird when you think about it but that's the general consensus to my understanding)
These people should've done what the sonic movie team did; bring in people with experience on the game and listening to the fans. Also, imagine if this show was a 2D animation like mortal Kombat legends, that would've been awesome
@@SATANICCOW it worked with Halo legends (except the episode that were made in 3D animation) and those looked amazing, especially the babysitter episode which is my personal favorite
@@silascraven nah considering the quality of animation and the voice actors they go for plus time taken to still develop roughs and further iterations of those by the artistic development crew, they just couldn’t mess it up
Does it have a captivating story? Does it leave you engaged? Paralysed?Dumbstruck? NO Yet the Halo Show directors were able to avoid your criticism, hire the actors, and desecrated Halo with their filthy storyline
Worst part is that episode one was actually pretty good. It was a bait and switch. Episode one sticks to the Halo theme, then once you're in, episode two creates almost an entirely new IP.
The perfect example of this show is with my boys the hunters it's like so cool. To see what they would look like in live-action but we never really get to see the hunters only get to see it is the worm things and not the actual Hunters
YO THIS! I literally continued the show in HOPES that after seeing the hunter worms do their thing we would eventually get to see a actual Hunter. CGI or not I really wanted to see it and it kept me going in the show hoping for JUST THAT. 1 FUCKING HUNTER. They are my favorite enemy is all the games ive played or books ive read. I was disappointed and my bar could have not been lower after the first couple episodes. One hunter would have at least made me smile a little :(
"Soon the great journey will begin and when it does the weight of your heresy will stay your fleet and you shall be left behind" Prophet of truth at the beginning of halo 2
when they added a sex scene, it just feels like ripoff mass effect and trying to go in that direction and not to mention i heard rumours that when halo was given to 343, almost half of them didnt like halo and wanted to change everything that made halo halo (cough halo 4 mp and halo 5 and halo infinite beta s1-2), this is why halo vets love bungie era halo cus they put much love and time to it
See chief in the books and games was the epitome of what I wanted to be as a human being. The ironic thing is that he was a perfect symbol for humanity on what we should strive to be. I’m talking about his character, not his physical attributes
Early on I was thinking that they could probably pull a George Lucas and make something akin to the Special Edition edits where after the season is done they go back and make certain changes/fixes. This would be stuff like redoing/removing scenes that weren’t working for the sake of pacing, making Ref a Jackal like in that one book (keep Squidward’s house because that was hilarious!), make Chief wear his armor, improve the cgi/fight choreography, and various other small things. I now realize that they’d have to change so much because the show is so fundamentally flawed that you’d be better off just rebooting the thing. They really dropped the ball with this. I’m really sad that it didn’t just stay in development hell. Hopefully season 2 is cancelled, or acts as a reboot that ignored literally everything from the first. They should have just made a mini series that juggles the plots of CE, The Flood book (the parts adapting CE weren’t very good, but the side stories were truly phenomenal), and Fireteam Raven. In terms of tone it would mostly be gritty with a few moments of levity, and have the over the top action with Chief. That way they could ground the audience in the world, while showing that Spartans can do stuff that’s impossible for normal humans. Plus, they’d be able to show off the events from different perspectives. Basically anything would have been much better than what we got.
They should just double down on the comedy factor. Have master cheeks cut a hole in his armor to show his hairy booty 24/7. Have him visit brothels all the time and just mope to the prostitutes. Have all the other spartans dye their skin fluorescent colours. Have cortana install an automatic masturbation device in master cheek's armor. Have doctor Halsey undergo a sex change.
Sadly, the show is run by idiots so the chances of them going back and making improvements is almost zero. Plus, like I stated earlier it simply cannot be fixed. I was going to say it’s weird that 343 didn’t hire people who understand Halo to make the show, but they don’t understand the ip either. It’s been downhill since Reach (Reach is where so many of the problems we have now started).
The thing I couldn't understand most of all was the ex Spartan that became blind who was helping Riz-028 after her injuries. It is supposed to be the year 2552 and you are telling me there is no cure for blindness😂 yet AI could be implanted into someone and all the other so called 'technological' advancements. As soon as I saw that I was done. I've never played Halo or watched any of the films, but even I thought a lot of what was said in this video makes sense.
If you don't have a passion for the source material, don't even try writing something supposedly based off of it. The sheer disrespect for a rich and highly interesting ip is staggering. You might as well make the ad campaign called 'fuck the fans'. From strange 'diversity' recastings to flagrantly ignoring the games themselves this show was clear that it wasn't really meant for fans or for people to really love the story and universe of Halo. Instead it was like taking a costume and throwing it over some cheap ass forgettable sci fi plot. And since this was disgusting, who knows if any legit expanded universe media is even gonna done. I've watched a ton of reviews on the show and they all say the same thing. This isn't for anybody. It's so easy to write in the universe. With the amount of history and content it's so fucking easy to make a interesting story. Want a chief story? He's been alive for many many years, you can start literally anywhere and show his character off fully. Want a human story? Show off the UNSC-Insurrection conflict, show the transition into the covenant war, show the war itself. Introduce new characters that enrich the lore with unseen facets of the universe. Include stories with the arbiter, half-jaw, the prophets, even new characters about the minor species, show the life of grunts and drones and hunters. Show off the flood. Make a story about alpha halo and the first encounter with the superweapons. Give a pre-explosion arbiter some screen time, show his realization about the upcoming destruction of the relic of his gods. So much content, so much to show. A TV show would be great as it would allow you to explore the details that showcased. Give us views about the background tech, as you said the orbital platforms would always be cool to see. Even give love to the rest of the UNSC, the helljumpers, marines, ship personnel. This is genuinely frustrating to see. There's no need to be revisionist about existing concepts and stories. Don't overwrite, add to them. Why do so many showrunners feel the need to be contradictory. It's like arrogance, why add to a work when you can just rip what you want and discard the rest. Even a retelling of game content straight up would have been more interesting than this monstrosity. This wasn't a colossal failure, it was heresy.
they could done so much, i would of loved starting of series where MC is floating in space we flashbacks to the fight and build the story from there like "argent moon" idk would of been nice
Excellent Assessment. I agree with everything you stated. It was obvious that no one involved played the Games or knew the Lore. They had a Story Already Written... Sad
"The showrunners basically looked at the box cover art from some random Halo game and was like, Yep that's enough research." I assume they looked at the version of Halo 2's where it's nothing but the oval logo and a 2 inside it.
The funny part is there’s nothing wrong with a sex scene in a halo show. Just not with chief or Spartans. I could be down with a “secret” marine love story that builds throughout the season only to have one of them die in the invasion.
It makes me deeply uncomfortable how anyone can write such a story after years worth of conversations about informed consent and inappropriate power dynamics. I would also expect to society to be more civilized than resorting to torture and slavery five hundred years from now.
@@randolphdefreese7874 It is illegal to have sex with a prisoner of war. Look at the power imbalance of both parties. It would be like a new employee having sex with a/the boss. How can you be sure if it is not done out of pressure, blackmail, or money/promotions? Also, the show thinks having sad stories and knowing someone for literally a couple hours is enough in common to start a relationship. Let’s not normalize any of these abusive behaviors.
Halo Tv series is ONLY good because of the action scene despite the odd cgi and visual effects. At least the battle scenes aren't too dark to see and not too shaky like Forward unto dawn's majority action scenes and halo 3 odst live action trailer where the odst runs around and shoot. My favorite character was just Vannak and Kai that's all lol and Vannak acts more like bungie master chief where he spoke less words and more action. Forward unto dawn at least tried to be like the games with chief not having to take of his helmet to show those kids he's human. And the action scenes was the only good thing really reminds me of the later transformers movies lol Transformers 2 to 5
I disagree about the camera thing. the camera, at least in We Are ODST, is designed to follow tarkov like its someone's helmet cam. it makes it feel more grounded than "oh, my viewpoint is floating".
Goes to show what style of movie you prefer loud obnoxious explosions and no tension. That's right Micheal Bay. The whole point of that dark scene was to prove they didn't have any idea who they were fighting. And it creates mass tension and was critically underated
but EBR you don't understand, the show has warthog so u should be happy and coomsoom content. Don't think, only consume. When I saw Mister Keef I calpped! I knew what that was!... I'm tired of stories getting beaten to death and then passed around for bad installement after bad installment all so some company can show me a jpg of a warthog or starship enterprise or whatever in order to get their piece of the pie. I'm at the point where I just want media I like to die in peace with dignity lol.
I dont blame 343 for this mess, yes someone from 343 had to approve this and I believe they should be fired. But we have seen what 343 can do when given freedom to write. I don't even think Halo 5 is their fault fully due to concept art and the trailers having a different story and I think Microsoft wanted shareholders to be happy with the game. Halsey from 343 was always a good character, she can't rise the Spartan II program to freedom as it was a war crime and she is a criminal for what she did. She is still grey if you watch the scenes from Halo 4 and Spartan Ops. This show is just aess that will be forgotten or remembered for how bad it was
Edgerunner is a great example that if you respect the source material people will love it, find it funny that the chatter for the halo tv show fell flat almost immediately.
Master Cheeks' sausage was that good: It singlehandedly made the Covenant lady drop all loyalty to her previous caretakers. Master Chief is obviously packin' more than just a standard UNSC Rifle, lol
The moment you watch humans shooting a gun turrent at the covenant doing no damage, but then watch chief pick up same weapon getting a triple kill.... That was my first sign this show was goin suck on multiple levels.
Imagine if the TV series followed Spartan II’s on missions. Like we could see more of Arthur, Solomon, Cal, Daisy, and Jorge. We could see Jorge BECOME the ‘Gentle Giant’. In Legends we hear Solomon say “I’ll take my chances” implying he has arrogance to an extent. Cal ONLY talks when she is forced to, her being the ‘Strong and Silent Type’, even more so than Chief. It could also give the novel characters some real exposure, like Naomi from the Kilo-Five books. Musa failed augmentation but kickstarted the Spartan IV program. These characters behave differently so it wouldn’t get boring. Overtime, we could see episodes from the perspective of the Marines or ODSTs to change it up a little. Hell, even an episode from the Covenant or Insurrectionist perspectives would be awesome. I understand the insurrection being in the series, it was the initial enemy for the Spartans to fight.
I mean, I haven't watched the show but literally any real Halo fan prior to this show would have known it's going to be bad when they showed Master Chief's face on the very first episode. Just imagine telling someone 2 years ago that a Halo tv show would be showing Master Chief's face in the first episode, seeing him naked, having him have a love scene and a sex scene. It's beyond believable, everyone would have thought it was April 1st prank. Also I disagree with not blaming the actors, Pablo literally defended the show's writers, so he is as bad as them, look at other actors (such as Viggo Mortensen who done his research on Aragon from Lord of the Rings) he didn't know anything about the character before, then you got Henry Cavill on his portrayal on Geralt the Witcher who was actually a true fan and read the books and played the games, now look at Pablo agreeing to take of Master Chief's helmet on the first episode, I don't know why people defend actors like they don't have a voice. Main lead actors have to take responsibility too.
in the games they never showed his face for the gamers to identify with but im pretty sure in the lore and books he had a actual personality and actual face. not sure why everyone is hating on this? its literally storytelling and character development not a real life twitch stream of someone playing halo
@@zachtindell7751 In the lore and books, his face is described as ghostly pale, scarred and (if I remember correctly) hairless - a result of his augmentation and of wearing his helmet for extremely long periods at a time. What we got in the show is a generic sexy default male main character. The majority of Halo fans are much more familiar with the games than they are with the books and other supplementary works, and in the games his face is his helmet, not the actual flesh beneath the armor. Having him remove his helmet at the first opportunity and as often as possible creates an immediate disconnect between the chief we know and the character we see in the show.
After seeing chef took off his helmet. I walked from watching the show. I remember at one of the xbox events, they announced that halo tv show. But it seem that this show was knocked out to meet the quota of "halo show".
the obsession with chief not taking off his helmet for a lot of people is weird, he is ineed a human being, seeing his face hurts nothing to me whatsoever. His actual character in the games is boring. When you look at a lot of the video game, its unrealisitc accidental luck hafl the time, the amount of shit master chief survives is ludicrous, the game story is just as ridiculous
@@Theyluvvallietomuch seeing chief's face most definitely hurts his character. he's supposed to represent us, the player, while also being a badass, and hella lucky spartan that does cool shit that we enjoy. halo 4 decided to extend his character, and give him real feelings, and they could do it fine without taking off his helmet (although I will give you that we get the littlest glimpse at a PART of his face. without the helmet, he doesn't feel like a spartan, let alone chief. spartans barely ever take off their helmets.
They made changes to "subveet expectation", which makes this series a bad way of being introduced to Halo, and it was made by people who don't understand Halo. Halo isn't about human vs human conflicts.
This is a good point in showing how dumb this show is I’m not even mad about the helmet off it’s just the way they did it bruh they really made a joke of a great game now nobody going to buy a game title halo
They turned Master Chief into Herman Munster ruining his reputation and that of the Spartans. Wolfkill and producers only had to watch Let's Play game video to understand the lore. The writing is like a bad RPG game where the characters act only when scripted. It's Mass Effect's storyline.
I might joke about how social inept I am, but the writers seem to have no grasp of the real world and societal/technological trends. Humans using slaves and torture five hundred years from now? Letting a possible spy run free and have sex with her captor? My skin crawls knowing Jimmy Rings committed a war crime rape.
@@ilikewindows3455 While I'm not sure, it's possible that they meant the overall plot is similar to Mass Effect. In fact, if you replaced most of the Covenant with the races of ME, made MC a mercenary in power armor, and named the characters anything else, it could be a ME universe story.
Forgot to mention that only two people could interact with Forerunner tech: Chief and his ‘love interest’. Making those two ‘chosen ones’ was a stupid idea and it completely changes on how the whole war would’ve started.
well, that's stupid. It was an entire plot point in Halo 2-3 that Johnson and Keyes were captured because only humans could use forerunner tech! Honestly, if 343 wants to take the easiest route, they should just make the show non-canon
@Whooa you a ugly nincompoop :-] bro do not affiliate this show with the games. Forget literally everything you watched and play them with an open mind... at night... with the lights off...
what surprises me so damn much is just how the hell did paramont+ think it is a good idea to make a second season with how bad of a rating from the community. and why make a movie about a beloved series (before 343) and just make stuff up?
Before it even air they said this show isnt going have any connections to the game or the books. That was their first mistake. If they had just spent a few extra backs and hired bungie 343 and the rest of the group, they could've made a great series while helping fund the game as well but no Hollywood to fucking high on their own supply they belive their shit dont stink.
Them calling it a silver timeline is just a copout, so they don't have to respect the establish lore. Hollywood is under the wrong impression that they could come up with a better story than what's already there.
I'm with you on this. Halo is definitely top 3 in my favorite games ever. I remember hearing like 12 years ago people saying that they were going to finally do a Halo film with Ben Affleck as master chief. That didn't happen so we waited for a long time to get a live action Halo and then this came out. They could have even just watched the story on YT and would have known more than enough to make this train wreck just a little better. Boo!
If they wanted the master chief to have a romantic interest (even if it's not the main Halo's proposal), at least they could have done something interesting but maybe in the next season because there's a lot of stories to tell rather than "master sex adventures".
One thing I disagree with is how often people say the separtists shouldn't be focused on at all. I think they should have been largely contained to episode 1, but been a far bigger focus of said episode. Use it to build up the spartans, make more of a point that the IIs were made for fighting humans first, then have the covenant incursion after the IIs have already started fighting the humans. A key change I would made too though would be for it to be first contact with the covenant, both as an excuse to give more exposition about them, while keeping an element of fear of the unknown. One of the bigger problems with the show is they've ostensibly been fighting the coves for years yet they're never shown as an existential threat.
The separatists should have been the focus of season 1. Build up the Spartans through their conflict with the Separatists, and explore the ethical issues around the Spartans, then when you meet the Covenant at the end of Season 1, Season 2 you can get into the more grey area of "Would humanity have lasted long enough to see the Great Schism without the Spartans and Chief?"
I think politics, as per norm with Paramount+ is the big problem... the writers took this assignment and identified the minor subplots that should have been touched on in season 4 (separatists) and instead of depicting them as a gray-area, they became the underprivileged group to play up as victims. Instead of complex ONI / Halsey / UNSC with great tension, clearly a Last Jedi fan decided to apply First Order to UNSC as they routinely decide to kill Kuan.... and BEFORE all the fans want it to happen... desperately. Someone that saw the movie Upgrade applied that to Spartan-AI relationship... some fans of Clone Wars decided to apply the brain-chip to the Spartans. If this series consists of humans suddenly getting their asses kicked on Reach, escaping with Cortana and desperately trying to regroup... this series would have made so much money... but that took a back seat to meeting political goals so the writers can brag to their equally clueless friends about how virtuous they are. Sad, and a total waste of the IP. I was very worried when I found out MS decide that Paramount+, the studio that made a 100 billion dollar Star Trek IP into a billion dollar Star Trek IP was the right group to entrust this project to. I'd like to see this series with better writing and ret-cons of the grossest screwups, and tie it into content releases in Halo Infinite.... Phil Spencer should take this project over because nobody else seems to have a clue about how to do anything right.
I HATE the arguement of "its a game story, why do you wanted it adapted to tv, just play the games", Like yeah, but we also have 20 years worth of EXCELLENT book material, that is canon, that would totally deserve to be serialised. Besides that, anime is almost always 1 to 1 with manga, and its fucking awesome for that, not once have i ever seen someone complain about that, infact people hate when itnceers away from a story, so in saying that, why cant they do a 1 to 1 story of halo CE in a tv series?? Like first ep, meeting the cast, keyes, chief cortana, johnson and of course, chips Dubbo, followed by being boarded by convenient, you could even include thel vaduum (The Arbiter), as an antagonist at this point as canonically he lead the fleet that followed the Autumn to the ring. Could end with chief leaving on an escape pod. Ep2 could open with the 2 banshees we see in the second mission actaully shooting down chiefs escape pod, showing the covenant relentlessness and be more climatic than just the escape pod failing and killing all its occupants. Chief could then wake up outside the crashed pod and that leads into chief finding survivors and fight off covenant. During him finding survivors, they could easily take some time to flesh out the relationship between cheif and cortana and how fellow marines see cheif as he comes to save them. Thats at least how i would do the first 2 episodes, but instead we got fired CW writers hired by paramount on the cheap to write what is probably the most bastardised adaptation they could ever make, second only too the Doom movie that had that chick as the "Doom Girl".
Thank you! Show has been sooo frustrating. Why do these Hollywood jackholes have to mess with a story that is already very full and very well put together. Frankly, not sure Chief should have even been a main character imo.
Read a theory that the show was actually meant to be set in Mass Effect, but when they couldn't secure the rights and the green light for that concept and script they jerry-rigged it into the Halo universe. The more I looked at it in that context the more I could see it, in overall tone and some of the stuff they did like Master Cheeks getting it on would not have raised any eyebrows if it was set in the Mass Effect universe. That's the camp I'm in right now to justify in my head how this thing turned out, they wanted to do Mass Effect, but only tweaked the script just enough to fit Halo when that fell through.
Love how elites went from unstoppable killing machines in episode 1 to a faceless, worthless, horde. Way to ruin your best enemy soldiers...
I fucking hate how Marines are used as Props and only show up in fights to immediately die, like they have the same weapons as Spartans but I guess their bullets aren't as strong and can't one shot Elites like Silver Team...

I commented this on another video, but I’ll say it again:
Me looking back at Halo 5 after watching the Halo TV Show:
“Perhaps I treated you too harshly.”
This i can agree with happily, now if only it was Mass effect
I’m sold.
Makes too much sense
From what I've heard, that sounds like the new discworld tv series. Not going to touch that garbage to check though.
I hear it was supposed to be a Mass Effect show, but they couldn't get the rights.
Someone pointed out that if you changed the characters and setting to Mass Effect, it'd actually be a decent show. It matches up suspiciously well to how Mass Effect does stuff
I think you're right on the money there
I honestly think that they came up with the "This is the Silver time-line" excuse after they realized that the fans they originally intended the series to be for actually hated it and decided to back pedal and made the excuse and said it was for a "broader audience" to try and face what little face they could.
They did what Disney did to Star Wars, messed up a set story that was set and had deep lore and cherry pick the few things they wanted from the Games and made their own Story that changed previous foundations and rewriting characters that didn't need to be.

But they had 9 million to splash on each episode.....they definitely had the budget to focus on a human covenant war

They could have had a gnarly fight scene at the end but instead, they gunned him down with a pelican......
I thought that was Tartarus
Man, you hit the nail on the head! I had to play some Halo MCC campaign and watch The Fall of Reach just to scrub my mind that nonsense after watching it.
You're a stronger man than I. I couldn't finish it. I love Halo, it's easily my favorite FPS and one of my favorite sci-fi properties in general. If they made an entire series of just Chief saying "I need a weapon" I would have creamed my pants. I couldn't even finish the freaking show...
They should've gotten Downes to do the voice over in post production.
I did not even dare start watching. I saw the reviews of the first few episodes and NOPEd straight away.
Season 2 could have been "To give the Covenant back their bomb". Seriously, I wish they'd never made this malformed tripe.
"The Halo TV Series - What Went Wrong?"
*It's very existence*
What I find crazy is that there are some minor lore pieces that the show gets spot on, like how normal humans evaporate when hit with a plasma bot or how an Elite can run into a moving vehicle and flip it without breaking stride, or even just how Spartans are capable of running alongside a speeding car. Clearly, some of the writers know the halo lore but I suppose they just got superseded by their bosses who said something along the lines of,
"GReEn sPacE MaN neED SeXy TIMe"
My theory is that this show's storyline was written before they slapped the Halo name on it. Once they did that, new people came in and absolutely nailed the looks and action of the Spartans and the Covenant (besides the last episode where elites just run at silver team like a zombie horde without even shooting)
Weird, I've run over Elites before and they didn't flip my vehicle.
@@SaintSchield probably was playing on either easy or some other game other than Reach because elites are a pain in that game
None of that is lore
@SaintSchield was more referring to the books and whatnot, (which are often considered more canonically accurate than the games, which is a little weird when you think about it but that's the general consensus to my understanding)
Its just Halo fan fiction at this point. They dont even have Halo music. Lols. Good video.
These people should've done what the sonic movie team did; bring in people with experience on the game and listening to the fans. Also, imagine if this show was a 2D animation like mortal Kombat legends, that would've been awesome
I agree that they should have brought on people who have played/made the game but I don’t think it should be 2D
@@SATANICCOW it worked with Halo legends (except the episode that were made in 3D animation) and those looked amazing, especially the babysitter episode which is my personal favorite

THE MEMES
The show writer's inability to adequately portray the Halo universe in a live action TV series was a colossal failure...
...Nay, it was HERESY!
You could watch FUD and see the hunter in its armor.

The best way to sum up the Halo TV series in one sentence:
Master Chief takes off his helmet a lot.
when they added a sex scene, it just feels like ripoff mass effect and trying to go in that direction and not to mention i heard rumours that when halo was given to 343, almost half of them didnt like halo and wanted to change everything that made halo halo (cough halo 4 mp and halo 5 and halo infinite beta s1-2), this is why halo vets love bungie era halo cus they put much love and time to it

Are you sure they'd actually think of this?
Sadly, the show is run by idiots so the chances of them going back and making improvements is almost zero. Plus, like I stated earlier it simply cannot be fixed.
I was going to say it’s weird that 343 didn’t hire people who understand Halo to make the show, but they don’t understand the ip either. It’s been downhill since Reach (Reach is where so many of the problems we have now started).
Writers are "artists" and they write for themselves. They should have kept this writing to themselves.
The Thumbnail Brought me here.
It is a work of art.
Personally we need to glass this series nay we need to order exterminadus like in Warhammer so it's never seen again
@@b1gbreezzzy718 ...yes... its been defiled many times over. Its time for halo to rest for ever, while we can still appreciate the original content.

they could done so much, i would of loved starting of series where MC is floating in space we flashbacks to the fight and build the story from there like "argent moon" idk would of been nice
Excellent Assessment. I agree with everything you stated. It was obvious that no one involved played the Games or knew the Lore. They had a Story Already Written... Sad
"The showrunners basically looked at the box cover art from some random Halo game and was like, Yep that's enough research."
I assume they looked at the version of Halo 2's where it's nothing but the oval logo and a 2 inside it.
The funny part is there’s nothing wrong with a sex scene in a halo show. Just not with chief or Spartans.
I could be down with a “secret” marine love story that builds throughout the season only to have one of them die in the invasion.
Did we really need chief committing a war crime by screwing a pow? It also legally makes chief a rapist lol! Wtf were the writers thinking.
It makes me deeply uncomfortable how anyone can write such a story after years worth of conversations about informed consent and inappropriate power dynamics. I would also expect to society to be more civilized than resorting to torture and slavery five hundred years from now.
How does it make him a rapist?
@@randolphdefreese7874
It is illegal to have sex with a prisoner of war.
@@randolphdefreese7874 Like I said it's legally rape because power are not allowed to consent legally.
Short answer it got made after 2016, when story and character development fell to the way side for “tha message”
And the action scenes was the only good thing really reminds me of the later transformers movies lol Transformers 2 to 5
I disagree about the camera thing. the camera, at least in We Are ODST, is designed to follow tarkov like its someone's helmet cam. it makes it feel more grounded than "oh, my viewpoint is floating".
ua-cam.com/video/PvNwmEtCBUE/v-deo.html this is the next episode...
Goes to show what style of movie you prefer loud obnoxious explosions and no tension. That's right Micheal Bay. The whole point of that dark scene was to prove they didn't have any idea who they were fighting. And it creates mass tension and was critically underated

Me after following this show: Hi Covenant, where's your glassing beam? I would like to use it.
Master Cheeks' sausage was that good: It singlehandedly made the Covenant lady drop all loyalty to her previous caretakers. Master Chief is obviously packin' more than just a standard UNSC Rifle, lol

I hate that all the elite armour is gone. It just looks like they're wearing off brand plastic arbiter armour.
The moment you watch humans shooting a gun turrent at the covenant doing no damage, but then watch chief pick up same weapon getting a triple kill.... That was my first sign this show was goin suck on multiple levels.
Covenant perspective and love interest? But that's what Arbiter is for
Imagine if the TV series followed Spartan II’s on missions. I understand the insurrection being in the series, it was the initial enemy for the Spartans to fight.
another example of a wonderful way of doing this series, among countless other lines they could have went
they forgot Sgt. Johnson
@Marcos Farias stupid
Why so good things get canceled and meanwhile shit gets another go
At this point, it needs an entire remake.

Their biggest mistake was in having writers who actively DID NOT RESPECT the source material and lore.

Who ever made this tv show, deserves 20 to life.
my take on this is just put the ones who made the games in charge with the story and i mean the OG ones from CE to reach those games were great
Don’t forget authors Eric Nylund and Tobias S. Buckell.
When you’re handling millions of dollars to make a tv show, ruining the franchise is no longer a result of incompetence, but rather maliciousness.
Good thing I didn’t buy a subscription for paramount +
I'm watching this with a grin in my face, this feels like a serious version of a "Terrible Writting Advice", it's only missing the love triangle. XD
Ughhhh. It’s just like high school.
Simple: Woke activists who watched to much game of thrones.
I HATE the arguement of "its a game story, why do you wanted it adapted to tv, just play the games",
Like yeah, but we also have 20 years worth of EXCELLENT book material, that is canon, that would totally deserve to be serialised.
“Find the halo, win the war” 🤓
