I had to address a leak on the 90 Wolf today. I struggled for many hours to get the original sump seal to break to then remove and refit with new RTV. May sound not a big deal, but do not try this on your back under the vehicle! Some choice words were spoken that would make even the most experienced sailor blush! 1/10. Do not recommend.
I once saw a German UA-cam video of a guy comparing laptops to a Panasonic Toughbook - he was dropping them on the floor and seeing if they would work - no KAPUT! So it stuck! Thanks for your support! Mike
Not sure if see questions in here, I've recently changed the belt on 90 that had a disco 200tdi conversion, a previous toe rag had stripped the jockey pully stud out from the front cover and bodged it back in, I come along and end up with a massive hole and end up machining a stud to "fix" the problem. The defender 200tdi only has a tensioner and I was wondering if anyone has fitted a defender 200tdi timing belt to a disco 200tdi and done away with the jockey pully. Would have saved me machining a stud up. I believe the disco had the jockey pully for high speed use? Because of motorway use? Love the channel, some may say you're living the "dream"!
@@BritannicaRestorations problem is they used the 19j flywheel housing so I'm unable to re time the pump after removing it (no timing hole in bottom of housing) it's been waiting for a 300 and r380 conversion in (old disco is sitting waiting) but time and wanting to fit a galvanised chassis at the same time means it's on hold. It was going to be a bodge but slightly better bodge to keep it running than what was in before. Further complications are I want to keep floor original in the vehicle (1985 90) so want to fit the 300tdi and r380 on the lt77 mounts meaning I will need to work engine mounting points out to have a chassis built. Plus point will be original floor and drive shafts. Land rovers are fun aren't they!
Hi Mike, maybe a strange question, but did you put the paper P-gasket between engine block and timing belt casing? Because I have to do the mine too and I already bought Hylomar hylosil 100. Thanks for answer
No use the update metal P gasket (www.lrparts.net/pet100790-water-pump-p-gasket-for-300tdi-fits-defender-discovery-1-and-range-rover-classic.html) with Hylomar 100
Excellent video as always.. the Haynes manual is quite scary for removing fuel pump with a special tool.. when I replace the turning belt housing gasket can I just undo the 3 bolts on the fuel pump and pull the cover forwards and off? Cheers jack
@@BritannicaRestorations thank you! Do I need the tool to take the pump off completely? No problem getting sump off and pick up pipe I was just worried about the fuel pump
I use a full tube of Hylosil 100 www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hylomar-100-Series-Amine-Curing-Silicone-Sealant-Black-85g-Tube/311073549256?epid=26012072393&hash=item486d6dabc8:g:wGsAAOSw5r9dly9T
As much as I enjoy watching all your videos wouldn’t it be a good idea to show how to remove and install some of the seals you replace instead of skipping from (to do,to done) apart from that there good uploads.

its a credit to how good these engines are, still running dispite all the faults

That's why you need the dismantling tool I sell!
Lol!
I like it when you are saying it is "kaputt". Best whishes from Germany.

Yhi
Sump bolts are 25Nm I was always told not to overdue it as it can distort, but not finger tight ffs.
Thanks Mike, Fantastic video, never seen it done with so much detail and with engine out... J Scotland
Thanks - that smoke machine has paid for itself over and over!

Great video...i must do the same job in my disco 300 and your video is really helpfull. greatings from Poland

Would it not be simpler to put a used timing case on?
I am not sure where you are, but they are common in the UK

Don't tell the other viewers, I love Land Rovers but I drive a Land Cruiser. It is the love of my life

Nope - you have to remove the sump, because the oil pick up pipe bolt is inaccessible
Simpler to take the pump off completely
@@BritannicaRestorations thank you! Do I need the tool to take the pump off completely? No problem getting sump off and pick up pipe I was just worried about the fuel pump
How do you just do it with sealant like you originally suggested?
Lots of brake cleaner to get out all the oil the some Loctite RTV sealer as used on the sump does the job
Thanks Mike. I have my 300tdi sump to next, how much RTV did you use out of interest?

Good day sir just want to ask does it have a proper gasket can be oder for replacement or just use rtv silicon to reseal the sump pan ?
this is the product to use - no gasket

@@BritannicaRestorations thank you for the advice👍
Hi Mike, did you fit a Dayco belt and kit?
How many miles were on this 300tdi?
259,000 km
Is that the original alternator?
...bathroom sealer on the sump
Have you ever fitted a 300tdi dipstick O Ring ERR3683 is so where on earth does it fit?
Goes at the bottom of the dipstick tube in the block
@@BritannicaRestorations Thanks I just looked at a dipstick tube and saw one seems a strange idea why not tap the block?
saves production money and you rarely get oil leaks from there ( everywhere else though!)
Would it be a good idea to have a look at the big ends and mains while you have the sump off ?
I could have done but where do you stop!
You never stop Mike you just pause !
Lol!
Mike
what sealennt would you use ?
Loctite 5980 gasket adhesive
