So basically you get you own internet from your provider and then send it out over Wi-Fi. How many people can be using your Wi-Fi at the same time? How do you manage who is using it?.
I'm in the process of 'trying' to build a long range p2p encrypted VOIP network for my employees, with line of sight and no obstruction how far does the 120 degree antenna broadcast on 2.4ghz ? Also , same exact question , but for 5ghz ... Thanks , I found the website to be very helpful but I couldn't find a definitive answer in terms of distance to these questions hoping you can help out.
Great video, thanks a lot. not sure you or someone in this loop could help: is there any best wifi solutions for train wagons? Cabling between wagons is not possible, and very thick metalic wagons are stopping wifi signal (inside is good). The idea is to set up a big wlan and with a local server to host an entertainment system for passengers. I would like to use tp-link omada sdn but i can't interconnect each AP (wireless mesh) because of bad signal. im thinking if it's possible to put one of the antennas outside of the cabin to establish wireless mesh, another antenna serves users inside. Any ideas for brainstorming?
Can you use the same channel for each one? Can you use the same SSID for each antenna? How do you hook all 3 antennas to access points and bring it all together into a switch? Wouldn't you lose most of the power thru that cable? Wouldn't an outdoor AP/Router be MUCH better.
Hi Craig, 1) Yes you can 2) yes you can 3) Yes you can 4) No that is why I speak on the importance of thick cables. Only 3db per 100' when using L-400 cable. 5) The answer depends on what you are trying to do. An outdoor omni-directional AP won't reach nearly as far as a base station scenario. Even a directional one will have a narrow beam width. This is why WiFi networks and RF in general is so difficult, every situation is unique.
I just want to know, is it better than The ubiquiti products. Currently I am using Airmax 2.4 ghz 15dbi Sector antenna. It's range are pretty good but I need more . Can you help me with that? Thank you
I want a 120 degree short distance sector antenna for our rv park , one would need to be for a distance of about 400ft the other 90-120 degree would need to cover about 1500ft. so from your video i want a low gain with a wide vertical beam correct. I have 2 90 degree sectors but they are only 7% vertical. I can not get it to work for shit.. Do you have anything that would cover my two areas. Or maybe a panel antenna would be better. Thanks.
Hi there, this scenario has a lot of different components. First off, what radio are you plugged into? Next, the 7 degree vertical is not an issue if you aim it correctly. I suggest you reach out to one of our techs at Support@SimpleWiFi.com or call us. To do this properly we need to have talk.
I have a 32 degree 19db that works great for what I need and I don't have all the hesitation and other problems that I had with the lap top internal that I had been using.
Mcgyver had on show take a bucket, a large drill bit, and copper wire to computer. Then point bucket out window to where you get a signal. Did not show how to connect to computer.
very educative video! thanks a lot : I do have a question: Is there a limit on the number of devices that an antenna can support? For example, How do i know what is the right antenna for a family with a desktop, a laptop, 2 tablets, and 3 cells; or how do i know what is the right antenna for a college campus with 25 thousand people, i mean cells and computers on their classrooms, administration, etc. those are just two scenarios, to help illustrate my question. thanks
It's not the antenna that are important in this case - it's the radio that manages the traffic. There is a specific access point for each type of scenario. Antennas only manage RF footprint.
As I understand there are three antennas to a router. does each of them emit both 2.4Ghz and 5Gh signals? Or, do two of them emit 2.4Ghz and one emit 5Ghz signal? How do i know which antenna i should detach from router? does it really matter which antenna to detach at all?
very clear video ,many thanks. However i am wondering if everyone comply with legal limit of wifi power transmission (in my country is only 100mw = 20dbm).i know that professionals use high gain antennas , How is it possible to coverage 2km or 3km area with only 100mw power transmission ?
They dont cover 2km-3km with just 100mW. They can cover those distances using a point to point bridge which sends signal between 2 exact locations. Using this scenario the power limit usually greater.
Thanks. I'm in remote Australia where there is no internet or mobile coverage. I have plenty of solar power and some high vantage points. I'd like to set up a WiFi network so that I can monitor tanks and turn on pumps etc over an area of about 3 klm (say a mile). Is this possible?
