Thanks for watching. Besides the extra horsepower, I think I’m most excited about the new prop. I don’t have it yet, but I’ll say for now it’s carbon and ground adjustable.

      What engine are you planning?

Cool Project. I fly a Pacer in Ak I'd love to switch over to experimental. Was always told it's basically impossible Nowadays. Could you point me in the right direction for more information?

It's definitely doable, the time it will take depends a lot on your local FSDO. Send me an email at: joshua@jblaircraft.com and I'll look up the references that you need.

Will you have two fuel lines from the right fuel tank? Also a Maule fuel selector in order to comply with the fuel selector AD?

Great question. My clipper actually had provisions for the right hand fuel tank, but only had one line for it. I believe for the time being, unless I change my mind after Oshkosh. I will leave it with just one line, I will make sure that I placard left-hand takeoff, landing or both tanks.
I do have the Maule fuel selector that I will be installing.

@@Blaircraft.Engines I actually took off with the right tank select and found out the hard way what the placard meant. My placard was not written correctly. Fortunately I got the plane safely back on the runway. My clipper, I believe actually came from the factory with wing tanks, as it was towards the end of the production line.

question for you... I have a clipper also. when purchased the backseat was not installed. the seat install is super easy but for the life of me cannot figure out how to install the rear seat belt. Do you have any videos or pictures showing how that is installed? I know this is a super obscure question but I cannot find anything online for the life of me.

Not surprisingly with these old aircraft. Send me an email; joshua@jblaircraft.com and I’ll send you a couple pictures of the seat belt installed.

The front and rear seat only ever had one throw over seatbelt for the front occupants and the rear occupants. the hard point attachments should be n the fuselage side tubing.

Curious about converting from certified to experimental. I have a J-4a which is similar. It’s in limbo on a restoration as Its really not a valuable plane, and it’s not common. So parts are not easy to come by. I’d love to explore engine options and not deal with certified Premium for everything.
What’s a good resource on changing to an experimental category?
Also since the fuel tanks look similar to j-4, I’ve read about splitting the boot cowl to make it easier to access fuel tank.

I don’t have the exact references handy. However, you can send me an email and I can forward you some information if you’d like. joshua@jblaircraft.com

How do you get it experimental? I didn’t think a certified aircraft could be changed to experimental.

You can surrender your standard airworthiness and go to the experimental Exhibition airworthiness.
It’s not a terrible hard process, but can take quite a while depending on your local FSDO. With my time frame, I personally went the DAR route. If you do it on your own , wait and go through the hurdles it doesn’t cost anything. If you hire DAR it can be a little expensive
