Thank you @industrialinjection for sponsoring me on this roadtrip. Thank you @ModelA and @thehoserz for the help in getting this running!
Famous last words... Custer: Let's go teach those Indians a lesson Merlin: Hey Desiree, let's drive a 92 year old Model A from Ohio to Arizona. Some men are very brave, some men are very wise... and then there is Merlin. Gotta love it. ❤
Merlin got a nice old Model A there. Nice meeting Jimmy's Dad and having Jimmy's help.
Yes. Nice to meet the dad and Everybody needs to have a Jimmy to help them along.
This should prove out to be quite the adventure going from Ohio to Arizona. The respect to the original buyer is always good. Giving Merl a new life is what these cars were made for. Travel the country and enjoy them. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to part 2.
You just never cease to amaze me at the knowledge you posses about things in general !
It doesn't matter it its diesel or gas powered two or four wheel drive or even just two wheels. You can take it from scratch and make it shine almost like new.
I thank you for sharing your passion for anything mechanical as its fasinating to watch you bring things to life. Stay safe and be blessed Sir. ✌️❤️🙏
As teacher at that Ole' school, I think you should give yourself an "A+". This old car has a story to tell and I'm going to PieceNGrease to hear the rest of it.
When you said 6 volt battery, my first thought was Model A, beautiful old machinery.
Thanks, Merlin. And thanks to Jimmy. It is always a pleasure to see that American ingenuity is alive and well.
Getting it going and driving it from Ohio to Arizona sounds like quite the adventure and your plans (necessity) to stay off the interstate means you’ll have a lot more to enjoy looking at as you make your way.
Looking forward to part 2.
Parting with an antique seems it would be too tough to do. What a find.
MERLIN knowing you and your channel and meeting you at WRECKER GAMES Nothing can shock me only gets me excited for your next awesomeness project. From another Gen X who thinks like you do.❤
Last year Boomer, good stuff!
He is always finding new adventures to get into
That's my Bro
It’s just cool to see car/truck guys getting together. People getting together.
These kids tinkering around at dad's house making stuff really work. lol
Another mornin with merlin what wonderful day
We had the best time and are so thankful and happy to have had this experience with all of you!! Jim....i cracked up when i saw all the chili😂😂😂😂
AWESOME CONGRATS!.... Merlin, you need 5 acreage and 4 huge barns.
Great story Merlin, looking forward to the road trip. Definitely checking out Piece n grease, Tim & Jennifer look like real nice folk.
Enjoy your adventure, you and Desi sure bring home for us all❤
I did pause the video at the beginning when you said to put in the comments what we thought you bought. After having been sub'd for a while there is no telling what you have come up with. So now it is back to the regularly scheduled programming.
The Model A is in great shape and the buildings and scenery..beautiful
Regardless of the outcome, this will be a bucket list dream of a lifetime trip, good luck and we’ll all be watching your progress!!!
Wow...
That's cool...
You have all those spare parts at home you just inventoried from that desert oasis. 😊
Casey LaDelle is looking for a runabout to have around for fun with his family and a older group of guys that do camping adventures. 😊
Good luck with the travel.
It's nice to have a bunch of projects then you're not just waiting for parts on one. This way there's always something to do.
your just an awesome man who knows awesome people merlin
I appreciate that you didn't just Roadkill this thing, taking it to bits and fixing it up before hitting the road is A-OK in my mind!
You guys were only an hour and a half away from me. Nice ride Merlin, couldn't be in better hands now!
They were an hour and a half from me. That means we are right next to each other or 3 hours away!!
Best channel out here to date. Absolutely love watching your content sir. You knowledge of anything automotive never ceases to amaze me!
I'd drive it across the country. I could probably get my wife to go along with me if I let her drive from time to time. We've been broke down on the side of the road a few times in my old junk. What's life without a little adventure
So where are ya'll today? That trip across the USA in a Model A is definitely a dream come true! Safe journey. Brings back memories of me, down in San Antonio in the late fifties, just playing in Grandpa's wooden single bay garage, climbing on over his Model A Coupe. I was just eight, but I thought it was the coolest old car; running boards, big steering wheel, spoke wheels, the smell, and loved to hear that Model A horn! Thanks Merlin!
One thing for sure, I dont think it will be any worse than what Derek had (VGG). So there will be hope. Everyone have a great day!!
Derek Bieri, with Paul Shinn's help drove a '29 Model A sedan all the way to Tennessee from wherever he got it, and made it. I am sure you can to. Model A's made lots of trips to California on the Mother Road (Route 66) during the depression and later. I had a junior high English teacher who regularly drove a '31 Model A coupe to and from school. I thought she was the coolest teacher ever.
I knew you were getting a model A. You said put it in the comments and by the time you were talking about her you opened the garage door. What a jewel you have there. This is going to be another epic series. Your right to if you don't like this stuff there's something wrong with you. Awesome take care. Safe travels to you.
Merlin Ohh boy 😋 see yours videos so cool. Thanks for share. 🙏✌️😎
What a find, definitely a great project that was taken care of to the best of their abilities for as long as they owned it. You can’t hardly find that sort of preservation in this day and age, people aren’t raised like that anymore.
I just ran across a couple of the overhead valve conversions for that four banger this morning. I paused the video to go back on Facebook to try and find it in case you were interested Merlin, unfortunately I couldn’t seem to dig it up again. Vintage Speed Equipment Show it off buy/sell/trade is the name of the group I’m in that the add popped up on in case you wanted to look for it. Really dig looking thru the adds myself but have to stop myself from buying more magnesium slot wheels or the American Racing spindle mount spoke wheels every time I find a set there. Anyway, looking forward to seeing your journey in the A and wishing you the best of luck with your new toy.
when i was a young man , i worked for a gentleman who was a harvester for 40 years. he told me when he was young he had a model a and had a babit go out , so to get home he slapped in a piece of pork rhine☺️. then afrer home he replaced the bearing correct and run for alot more years.
Love those stories!
Can’t wait! What an epic trip.
Welcome to Ohio Merlin!!!!!
Love your channel ❤
Casey LaDelle's channel just had a neat video where there's guys who take their old Model T and Model A out on the woods to go wheeling. Super cool old cars.
There's also the story of Ralph Bagnold, who navigated the Libyan Sand Sea in the 1920-30s, which made possible the Long Range Desert Reconnaissance Group of the British forces during WW2 in North Africa.
Never know what Merlin might get up to but it's always fun to watch! Love this channel!
Merlin you and Jimmy are hard workers and quick at that. Always good to see Jimmy helping you do things. Thank you Jimmy for being such a good friend of Merlin's and helping him. That is a nice car you got there. Always have good content on your Channel.
Taking it out of the rust belt can only be good for the car.
I figured it was a tri five Thunderbird nobody in the right mind would drive a model A all the way across the country 🤠
Great save, videoing is cool but actually hands-on will bring a smile to those like me that understand 😀
There is no telling what your gonna buy next, you do everything, jet ski , boats old trucks, cars,
Tim you have a new subscriber sir...awesome vehicles, nice banner on garage wall 👍
Impressive video, keep it up, Merlin. 😁
Thank you for buying a vintage ford. You are a genius when it comes to fixing these cars. Thank you for sharing. Videos are SO FINE
What a Beauty of a ride!!
13:43 the blue flag on drivers side.👍
Morning sir! Looking forward to my morning coffee with you!
That Jimmy’s a good friend what a adventure.
Cool as always...Thanks gentlemen !
Looks like a fun new toy!
The Model A ( and the like) fan base is unfortunately disappearing. So important to preserve and display running samples of this era.
Mr merlin that is a beautiful ride just to see the smiles awesome I'm happy for you and your channel and what about that blue ford ❤
Well I guessed Model 'A' or a 'T' so I was right. Guess you got plenty spares for that after your Rattler battling trip up Route 66. She looks good, nice colour too.
Can't wait for this journey!
Got all my stuff thank you so much!! You guys are great. I’ll send pics soon
I played with an A model "doodle bug" on my grandpa's farm when I was in my early teens. I'm nearing 70 now. I can still remember how to start, run and tune it up. I would love to be able to join you on this project. Grandpa told me "all you need to do most of the work on an A model is a pair of pliers, and screw driver and a length of baling wire". I had a ball on that thing! Sadly it was destroyed in a barn fire along with other equipment. Can't wait for the next video!
Those were the good ole days
Cool to see you guys in my neck of the woods. Great video!
Another great adventure! I finished up my automotive career working on EV’s. But seeing the workings of the Model A is fascinating to me! Love what you do.
How good is it to have friends like Jimmy and Jim senior, another great adventure. looking forward to the next instalment.
What a great adventure, have fun.
Great 👍 adventure 👌
Cool to see you were right in my back yard
Love your channel
Dang! From the Model A, to the square bodies, Flatbeds, and Jimmy Sr’s Cummins! Lots of automotive eye candy in this episode!! 😎
You’re a beast Merlin but FYI JetSki Jimmy is super fly😂 love his style
Lots of videos out there like this lately, which is awesome. But, this is the video series I’m looking forward to the most 🤘🇺🇸🤘
Will there be a, “Field Mouse Inspector,” waiting to bust you, when you get back home, lol!
We said the same thing😂😂
It's a treat to watch you work Merlin
I do hope you keep this "A" when you get it back home and just do the minimum amount of fixin' required. When you were talking about a rod rattle I wondered if it was just the brake rods rattling. I have read that they can make a heck of a noise and they sell anti-rattlers to stop that. Going to get real hot as you approach home.
Waiting for the travel series back to AZ.
jack
This is gonna be SWEET! I love this Merlin. Had a friend who had a '29 I think it was, won a lot of awards for it. It was a real beauty. He's gone now but he was almost as old as the car was. RIP Paul.
That mouse was hilarious. It was like nope I don't want to live in this loud thing anymore LOL
Merlin I’m sure it will be AMAZING can’t wait to see it 💪🏻👍✌️❤️
Golly, my husband and I knew exactly where you were when we saw that pond 😅 that's a good group there and amazed you're in our back yard! The next time you're in town, we'd love to buy y'all dinner, our treat!
Awesome adventure brother it's always an awesome adventure with you and your findings around the world lol
So cool , have a safe trip !
Great video Merlin. I'll be waiting for the next installment.
I'm sure you know about Casey LaDelle & saving a gentleman when he was out wheeling with a Model A club & was caught in a storm. I totally can see you having those adventures in it! New cars these days just don't have character like the old ones. Safe trip back to Arizona my friend! Can't wait to see your adventures!
Just be careful and take your time and take care of yourself brother that's going to be an awesome adventure in its self
Merlin, all this time I thought Jimmy was your brother. lol Y'all act like brothers.
Better hang a few of those water bags on the outside of the car, just like the dust bowl days!
Merlins Old School Garage best way to start my Sundays. Perfect of course Merlin a model A
I will definitely go to Piece-N-Grease, seeing how close they live to me! 30 mins down the road. This will be a good channel to watch! Thank you, guys, for turning me on to another good channel in my neck of the woods! Til next time, take care, and we'll see you on the next...😊
3:00 Those of us who've known about this fine dinery for what feels like eons refer to it as "Skuh Leen Eees"... the more fanciful way of saying Skyline's. 😛
I actually was guessing, right. Ever since I heard a six volt battery. A buddy of mine has one of those all original hidden in the garage... I've never seen it it's my whole life, and it has been buried with junk. I've only seen sections that were uncovered.. Marilyn, are you already back home??? I'm sure some of us would love to give you a wave down the road along the way. I'm in the quad city area. Huge car show, Monmouth llinois, but it's not till the 4th
I lived right next to Lebanon in the late 70s. It's changed a lot since then
Good episode. A real cliff hanger.
Anybody that likes Skyline Chili is alright in my book. While you were in Lebanon I hope you had time for dinner at LaRosa's. That's usually my second stop when visiting family in the suburbs of Cincinnati.
No telling with a 6 Volt battery. Probably something in the 30-40s. Thanks for sharing.
Let's guess an old REO although rather see a Model A Pickup, Sweet, it isn't the Pickup I wanted to see but still What an Amazing Model A
31 A.......one of my Favorites..bar none👍🤠👍
Back in 1962 I had a 5 window coupe 1930. Learned how to set timing with pin in timing cover. Had original manual to guide me. Learned a lot keeping that A BONE on the road. Painted it green with black fenders. Drivers front fender for sparetire mount, but no cowl bracket. So I just pumped tire full of air until it wouldn't fall out. No glove box just kept pliers, crescent wrench, and baleing wire in trunk.
Hi Merlin,,to loosen a head from a running A, just back off head bolts 2 or 3 turns & start it
Just started the video, but I'm hoping it's the Model A that we talked about at the boat ramp in St Louis!
I am amazed, we live about 5 miles from there. Have my own project challenge a 2012 BMW 750i with the worst engine. Has a bad knock when running. Oregonia, Ohio
Thanx For Sharing your Experience
Have a Great Day 👍
Great Content and Video
ONCE A YEAR YOU HAD TO DO THE BEARINGS IF YOU DROVE A LOT OF MILES BACK THEN THERE WAS A LOT OF MAINTENANCE HAD TO BE DONE TO KEEP IT ROLLING / A LOT OF GUYS PUT A PINTO MOTOR IN THEM AND THEN YOU CAN DRIVE IT A LOT WITH NO PROBLEMS WITH THE MOTOR / GOOD LUCK WITH IT
Can't wait for the next video on the 31👍
A cool restaurant near Cincinnati is the ford garage restaurant ,its a place you'd love. What a cool old car just a beautiful piece of history ,wishing you a safe fun trip home.
We have one here in Brandon FL. Good food.
I knew I liked you for a reason it’s the Pepsi lol
That is the kind of trouble I am glad you are getting to. AWESOME!
26:51 going through all the things that need to be checked and perhaps fiddled with.
This ain't going to be no Vice Grip Garage run back home. We hope.
Can't wait for part 2. Safe travels man
Congratulations merlin on the sweet ride!! Ya'll do some fine work . Love the color. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun enjoy
