World of Warships - Rule of Thumb

- People generally play torpedo destroyers, especially the Japanese ones, pretty badly. I think that's more down to uncertainty about the nature of the possible threats than being bad players, but you don't have to memorise the capabilities of every ship you face, just remember a basic rule of thumb...

A few months back you told us you wouldn't show toxic behavior, while someone torpedoed a friendly ship, that he can not do any harm to.
and here the squadron of com_soto is the most toxic thing I've seen this year.
(edited some typos)
Com_soto and his friends are`nt even good players. Below average players who complain about kiting ships...
I've seen it too. Pretty toxic.
Yeah...

The only thing worse than a sore loser is a sore winner.
What a toxic division, reporting players for "kiting" and "wasting time". i don't get some people, OK you're good at a video game, why let it go so much to your head?
these people can't function in real life so they have only online games where they can pop off to someone without the possibility of them getting their butt kicked for lack of manners.
They're not good at the video game: even the best player in the division, the Seattle, is only average at high tiers.

That was my idea, I'm the Seattle, and while I did feel the enemy team played poorly by constantly sitting in spawn, putting it in their faces was wrong of me to do, and as I had the idea it was the div who followed. It was my actions, not com's, and I'm sure he usually does not do this. Please place the blame on me and not my div mate, he had a good game, and I was salty cause everything was out of my range all game, and pushing into range would mean becoming a priority target and sure death.
Would have been a fun replay unfortunately the toxic attitudes of the DD player and his teammate ruined it.
agree
That was on me, I was the toxic one with the idea, and I own to that. I'm the Seattle and was having a bad night myself. While I feel the enemy team as a whole played poorly by sitting back and not playing objectives, I also don't think it warranted me slamming the report button and spitting it in their faces. I'm sorry for that and please put the blame on me and not my div mate as it was entirely my idea.
@@williamhess3873 They were playing the objectives, though. They captured 3 cap points and contested B cap until the Yugumo torpedoed the two ships in it. They were literally playing the objectives. They weren't playing poorly, they were just out-played because they didn't have a single player on their team getting a kraken like your team had.
@@Mr_Dancy_Pants I think it had a little less to do with how my DD performed and how I didn't really take in to account how their spotters were set up. Nuestra and Asashio were both far on flanks, and while that allowed them to take those caps well, the push back in and the fact that I was pretty tunneled on their kiting BB/BCs lead me to think they were kited a bit too far back. I defs think a few players did play poorly, but again, it was not correct for me to report the team and a lot of the kiting players out of my own anger, as well as to encourage my div mates to do so. That is again, entirely my fault and I own that mistake.
@@williamhess3873 Yeah, because your div mate did report them. So as far as I'm concerned, he's every bit a garbage player as you are. You're both the textbook example of the player base that ruins games.

In the Mod station, there is a (WG approved) mod that automatically tells you if an enemy ship has the potential for radar, and the rage of said radar, the BattleFrame Minimap mod, I believe. It will tell you which 3 BBs have radar, the Borodino, Constellation, and Missouri

Hello, I am the salty Seattle you see in the chat, and the only one being salty overall. I encouraged Com and my div mate to do the team report and it is my fault that happened. I did feel some players on the enemy team played poorly, but I also realize I did it out of spite that everything sat out of my range all game. Please don't blame Com and others as they're really good guys. Blame me for being a bad sport.
This division really shouldn't get the honor of being in a jingles video with their toxic behavior.
I've got to agree with some of the others, this game was horribly toxic. His team mate was shit talking , and he reported ships for playing the game. Come on Jingles, you're better than showing this stuff.
It's WG. All games are toxic. You might as well complain that the sky is too blue today. If you think WoWS is toxic give the tanks version a go. LOL
Not all games, there are some where this would be rightly frowned upon.
I used to play both WoT and WoWS for many years. Their communities where one of the reaons i steped away from the games.
Definitely not all games are toxic, in my experience few are. But Jingles should show replays that make me think better of the time I spend playing WoWs. This one does not. In fact, it makes me think that Jingles doesn't care if people are assholes. That doesn't do much for my opinion of Jingles. But I'm willing to say that he didn't read the chat either, and maybe watched this replay after seeing one of those back-o-the-map Shima's (and there are definitely too many of them). But I'd rather have that on my team than the two jerks in this div.
Hello, I'm the Seattle player. Please pay it no mind, as Com and DSN are both great guys who would usually not do this if it weren't for me getting angry. Blame me instead.
As a regular Shima captain, the biggest problem is being perma spotted, rocket attacked and bombed by aircraft carriers. No planes in this replay make it super easy mode.
not to mention the only support you can count on is 15km from a cap. Also love Cruisers that drop torps 8 km behind you...
no planes, no radars, plus the most threatening opponents are potatoes blundering away their ships in the first minutes.

Chat at the end was weird.
'should report the enemy team for that waste of time kiting' then proceeds to
actuallly jingles the Missouri has radar :) also keep it comin Jingles really enjoy this
The main point here is no subs or CVs... all the stuff that Jingles has mentioned regarding good dd play goes out the window when CVs are around because you can be randomly spotted at anyh time so you have to be much more cautious, as for subs - still don't really understand the sub spotting mechanics but you can also blunder into them with no warning and then get massacred by the enemy team. All of this has meant that lots of new dds have no idea about how to play a dd when there aren't CVs or subs around and still hide behind the bbs... Similarly as a dd your freedom of action is largely determined by the degree of firesupport you get from your team when you are spotted... otherwise all you can do is smoke and withdraw... teams nowadays do seem to not want to risk being at all exposed to support dds. (And similarly dds often run back behind those cruisers and bbs that do move to support them leaving them exposed to the enemy dds torps...)
Literally had a tier 10 sub suddenly appear 2km away from me and by the time I got within depth charge range of .5km I went from full hp to less than 500 hp so much fun that.
Honestly as a BB player ill take my CV games over no CV games when it comes to destroyers, not having any eyes on them at all just sucks
I always look the first few minutes if the ships support me when sailing a DD or do not support. If not... not gonna take any risks and I am confident I will be making a fighting retreat (which is favourable in a DD) since I can be sure that the ships on my side will be deleted from the match.
Also, if I see an opportunity to kill enemy DD I will take it because it will mean easy sailing after that.
Wonderful performance from the kagero as well moving in to back up with his guns to compensate for Soto’s lack of ‘em (not that he especially needed it. But also I’d like to personally thank you jingles your incredible knowledge of naval warfare and the ease with wich you have explained many a time over has really helped to improve my personal writing (no I won’t publish it I’m absolute shite at writing it’s a hobby) cheers mate
This was a good game for the Yugumo captain with their final result but it wasn't an interesting game because it was a Japanese destroyers doing standard Japanese destroyer things only from closer up this time. And that truly toxic display they were involved in at the end just kills any credit deserved, nothing worse than a bad winner.

So, am I the only one whos confused about why he reported almost the entire enemy team? Did he do it because they lost so fast, or did I miss something?
Time Stamp: 14:08
In the chat, there's a call from his squad-mate to report the entire team for wasting time by kiting. Rather a toxic set of reports, in my humble opinion.
pretty much.. the entire enemy team gave up the flank pretty much from the get go. Oh and Jingles.. pretty sure that the Edinburgh popped smoke earlier.. you could see it at 2:51. when the yugi went south of the island to kill the DD. Pretty sure the smoke ran out so he was trying to hightail it out of the cap and was trapped either way. If the Edinburgh had retreated south instead of rushing cap he could have defended the DD in the cap
Highly toxic behavior, abusing the report system because "get gud"
I noticed that too. Grafophile even said to report the entire enemy team for fiting and wasting their time. Pretty toxic if you ask me, I stared in disbelief when I saw that. That completly soured the replay for me.

And Jingles is incredibly generous - he delivers video, after video.
I mostly have no clue what equipment enemy vessels have. Never put that much effort in to remembering
I normally don’t give a crud about this kind of stuff but what exactly happened to “not showing toxic replays on my channel” Jingles?
Decent DD game, I will not go as far as to say this was a very good or exciting game, because:
A: The players in the division are a bit toxic; I'm kinda surprised that Jingles featured this video as he usually frowns on this kind of behaviour (which I approve of).
B: The Edinburgh threw his ship away trying to go up against a torpboat at that kind of range.
C: The Montana at 12:26 just sailed at the same speed and course even after the DD was spotted in torp range.
D: At 6:45 you can clearly see that the enemy is doing everything to get cornered into the lower left corner of the map and basically threw the match.
I'm picturing a few noob DD captains attempting to sneak up and olbiterate a MIssouri because Jingles said there are no BBs with radar. :D
Don't ever change, Jingles.

One thing I remember from World of Tanks, is that there are soooooo many tomatoes in these battles. As I usually ran XVM it quickly became much easier to understand why some teams were easily ran/run over
As a regular Shimmy Captain, I rarely rush a cap, early in a game, first because I can’t win many gun fights against other tier X DDs, planes spot me (sometimes), but radar is my biggest enemy.
Some games I find 3 or 4 Radar Cruises and once they get a whiff of me, it doesn’t matter that I have 5.6km detection, if they have 9-12 radar.
A smart Radar Cruiser stays quiet until spotted, then I’m dead before I knew what happened.
Often I use my 20km trops to deny area, rather than aimed shots.
The Edinburgh smoked up at 02:51.
oh Jingles never change. The Edinburgh was clearly NOT a radar cruiser as it popped smoke and was firing from same smoke whilst interrupting the cap before the Yugumo spotted , attacked and sunk the Benson! :P
"Actually Jingles", the Mighty Mo has the Radar Consumeable. :D
I thought you said it wasn’t boring…
That was dull as dishwater.
This yugumo player grey lining the torps the whole game kinda triggered me especially when it was clear the enemy ships would change course before the torps would reach them
"No battleships have radar..." Stares at Jingles in Missouri.
I always found getting bounced by hydro to be way more dangerous than radar. Damn near everything has hydro at high tier and if you don't know where every ship is at all times getting close is dangerous asf.
Yup, particularly German BBS have long range hydro.
I always enjoy these videos. The commentary is funny, often useful and soothing. The videos often contain some funny moments as well. Sadly though, another player's perspective might have been better, as this one was quite salty.
Nevertheless a good video Jingles!
The salt was purely from me, I am the Seattle and it was my idea to report the enemy team. Part of it was I did believe that camping spawn was bad play, but the whole team really didn't deserve it. The other reason was I was unhappy with targets sitting out of my range all game long. It was entirely my fault the comments section is displeased, and I know my boy Com would not do that normally if it wasn't for me encouraging it in the chat. Please put the blame on me and pay no mind to my div mate. He played a good game and deserves this feature.
Since taking almost 2 years off from this game and coming back a month ago, I've turned on a wows modstation addon to show radar and hydro info for each ship. Very useful.
I love DD replays like this one! Thanks Jingles!

Maybe you meant in this battle?
umm... on my keyboard that's the shell flight follow camera, but I get what you mean xD
another great video from jingles
You will find that the Japanese dds for the most part rarely error on the side of hiding behind bbs and most of the time error on charging caps and dying in the first 2 mins
Jingles: "And that's probably the enemy Edinburgh"
Enemy Edinburgh was seen entering the cap around the same time as the Benson.... there's literally no question who's in the cap. This is perfect. Never change.
I use the noob tubes on the Shima, not specifically for direct torpedo attack (though obviously that is required), but because they regularly get indirect hits on unwary ships further along who tend to assume that the torps will run out at 12km.
I wish i would play against such dorks when i hop into my IJN torp boats. But every time i play my shima i face at least 3-4 radar cruisers and all enemy player are on a super unicum scale -.-
Jingles: There is no radar battleships in the game
USS Missouri:Hold my beer im about to end this mans whole career
Jingles, I enjoy your world of warships videos greatly, however the strategy involved in playing the game is a very real component of the game. It is not all about rolling your face over the fire button for your guns. Using stealth and firing torpedoes in order to act like a concealed sniper and continually damage and sink the enemy is also a very interesting video, it is just a bit more cerebral than some of the things that just require fast fingers and small amounts of grey matter.
Classic jingles moment, forgets about Missouri having radar
I´m surprised there is no mod that points out any ship that CAN carry radar or sonar.
Would certainly be a big help for destroyer players, to a lesser degree to others as well, but mostly destroyers.
You just CAN´T remember every single stat of every single ship.
Man... all these paid actors... I mean, I wish I had enemies like this!
and also:
Jingles: 7:26 "no battleship has radar"
Missouri: eheemmm.... aren't we forgetting something?
🙂
I was thinking exactly the same :P Aggressively mediocre dd gameplay + super awful enemies. It's always kinda funny to hear Jingles theorize about DDs though, it emphasizes how little he knows about playing a DD well, especially when he looks at mid/low tier battles and never stops talking about stealth torping xD
Jingleisms this game (and what they really are):
1: The Edinburgh never showed us what kind of build he was running (He smoked up mere seconds after entering the cap)
2: There are no BB wielding Radar (Insert Mighty Mo dissappearing into the ether)
3: The Kagero can launch torpedoes from a different postcode then the ship itself (Those were Mogami torps, not Kagero's)
Gotta add though that his Radar Rule of Thumb (RRoT) is reasonably on point, only thing to add is just like British CL, Pan-Asian DD from tier 8 up CAN wield radar instead of smoke, so treat them the same way. (Of course there are a plethora of ships that aren't included here, but then you get to that encyclopedic knowledge point again. Best single ships to remember are both tier 10 Swedish premium DD's [Ragnar, Smaland] but thats because they too fall under some sort of umbrella description that makes it easier to remember)
Jingles, ya forgot about the Missouri!
Wait, free tour of the salt mines you say.

The reason stealth boats never get close to anything is: CVs and Radar. Until late game there isn't any chance to get near anything.

Repeated question during this video ... "Did that Edinburgh have Smoke Screen or Radar? We'll never know! But it really would have been dangerous if they had Radar!"
Missouri and the tier 8 American premium constellation/Congress idk I think has it.
I also like to play the Yugumo pretty agressively since people underestimate the gunpower a lot
Good for you, but this guy didn't play aggressively.
He was lucky that Benson was a complete potato (40% WR...) and didn't torp him back, then he deliberately ignore the Asashio on A to go farm some BBs in the middle, and only used his guns because he ran into him by chance.
jingles: no battleship has radar
missouri: am i a joke to you jingles?
That is why I always use a spread sheet with what ships have and could have radar and the range. I always shoot point blank unless the ship (Halland for example with fast torps and reload) has other characteristics that warrant a different play style.
Yuugumo.
Ah yes. Half Gunboat, Half torpedo.
Guns maybe slow to reload but it hits hard. Torpedoes can strike anything else.
Yuugumo's guns are also dual purpose. Kagero is painful though.
jingles, but edinburgh did use his smoke screen before he came behind the island to greet yugomo's torpedos
Jingles "There is no battleship in the game that has radar." The Missouri is on the phone... Would like to speak to you...
I think so many dd captains play those on the edge of the map because they only get information from Jingles' videos Kapp
Well.... achcually, even though it's no longer sold, the Missouri is a BB that has a radar, albeit a short duration one.
However, even if you dismiss that, the Connie IS being sold at the moment and it's also a BB with Radar, as well as the optimally balans'd Borodino.
WG also decided that U.S. Radar Picket and Most Decorated AA Screen in the entire war: San Diego won't have radar and will have mediocre AA.
2:55 Edinburgh in a Smokescreen after getting shot at once...
I can't tell you how many times I have been killed in my destroyer by a Missouri with radar because I trusted Jingles when he said no battleships have radar. I trusted you and I died! Over and over again!
just wait till you run into a Constellation or a Borodino then xD
Love waking up to these
BB with radar which every DD should know:
Missouri
Borodino
Constellation
The way I found out that Borodino had radar;
*sailing around in DD* ok, no radar cruisers nearby, oh, a new BB I don’t recognise! Wait, how am I radared? I’m well out of range of radar cruiser?! *dies*
*looks in recent patch notes*
Ah…. Why the eff did they put more radar BBs in the game?
that sounds like me when I ran into a Constellation for the first time.
Sees constellation when no radar nearby
Me: HaHa! I have you now you stupid BB...hey wait wheres that radar coing from???
Proceeds to get shot at by everything
Shame they ruined the end of the replay by being toxic in chat, reporting people for "wasting their time by not losing faster".
Hi, I'm the toxic Seattle on the enemy team. I encouraged my team mates to do the team report, and if it wasn't for me, they most definitely wouldn't have done so. Please put all the blame on me and not on my div mates. The whole clan is full of wonderful people. I have been banned from the clan and currently have a chat ban, and am doing my best to atone for my actions. Focus on my buddies achievement. I was just salty everything kited way out of my range.
Jingles that Edinburgh smoked up right at the start of battle, when entering the cap.... lol
I have been nursing a freedom chub for some years now with my phatass Murican BB with radar, good sir. Also, he knew the Edinburgh didn't have radar because it popped it's smoke as soon as it entered the cap circle.
"Battleships dont have radar, do they? Well, no..."
Sad Missouri and Borodino noises.
Constellation is silently crying in a corner
No BB has Radar….Missouri starring at Jingles.
I enjoyed this demonstration of how to use a IJN destroyer...logs into WoWS...I have now completely forgotten how to use a IJN destroyer
Well narrated and told overlord of the salt mines . We minions must get back to work ,cheers.
theres three things destroyers are good at, spotting, stealth and either gunning or torping.
If you sit out 12-13km away from the fighting, you are trading two and a half of those upsides just to be greedy and safe. And last I checked, Greedy and Safe doesn't win games. Being selfless with smokescreens, spotting for your team mates, while also picking and choosing your own engagements at your OWN leisure is what makes Destroyers worth playing, also makes you feel alive when shit goes wrong, or dead if you don't make it out alive but that's the upside to gaming, you die, and you can respawn in another game. Sometimes to take risks is to learn. Can't learn without taking a risk or two.
The Missouri has been out of sale for a while, and the players who have it have been slowly moving on from the fame over the years, consequently fading it to obscurity. One can be forgiven for forgetting about it, in that instance.
Edit: Did you miss the toxicity of our hero in chat when reviewing this replay? If so, no big deal. We all caught it, and the comments section will hang you for it.😂 Doesn't make it any less of a good battle, though.
Hello, I'm the Seattle and the one who encouraged the toxicity. Please pay my boy Com no mind, I was the one with the idea and he usually woulda never done something like that, nor would DSN. It is my fault and I would like to accept full responsibility for their actions. Com had a great replay and I would prefer to not trample on that.
7:38 Actually Jingles, laughs in Missouri, Borodino and Constellation
I know Borodino and Constellation are technically battlecruisers but...
I know too that the Missouri and the Borodino have radar and are battleships. I am as knowledgable in WoWs as the rest of you guys. Lets encourage Jingles to "never change" for the billionth time.
