Hi Marie, I like the consistency of this lotion, that’s why I’d like to stick to just oils and not butters, but I tried using 5g Hempseed oil and 5g Rosehip seed oil instead of 10g of Fractionated coconut oil. But, it didn’t thicken up and kind of didn’t blend well. Where did I go wrong? Please help! Thank you
Hi Marie!!! Super excited for the live streaming! I’ve been following you since a year now and just wanted to say THANK YOU! My question is simple: why when making less the 100 gram batch and mixing with a coffee frothier, why the lotion gets too frothy and then when it seems it’s emulsified hours later it’s separating and a texture like a mouse? This doesn’t happen to me when I use the inmersión blender .. thank you!

Hi Marie! I love your site and have been using your basic lotion video for the past year as a base point for making my own face lotion with substituted oils(argan 60%, rosehip seed 30% and tanmaru 10%) that are best for my skin. After using the same recipe successfully multiple times, suddenly my lotion isn't thickening properly and separating a bit after sitting a while. Any guesses why? I would really appreciate your help. You have been my DIY guru since I started this awesome journey.
Hi Marie. First let me say I love your videos and the information you provide. When I make my emulsion it gets creamy and seems to be stable but I notice that sometimes there are small white bits that are there. The lotion is still creamy but the bits. Does this mean my emulsion didn't work?

Hello Marie and Thank You! for all Your videos. I live in UK and im very new to DIY. I use Phenoxyethanol EHG Active Ingredients: Phenoxyethanol and Ethylhexylglycerin. to preserve my cosmetics. Hi! I’m a formulation chemist. This is a good broad spectrum preservative effective at broad pH. In regards to how long your lotion will last, there is a lot more to consider. Lotioncrafter says it very well: Good production hygiene as well as the use of raw materials with low microorganism levels, as a result of correct raw material control, are vital prerequisites for the production of finished products. To that I’d like to add that the pH has a great impact as well. So, my conclusion is that many aspects affect the longevity, not just the choice of preservative. I do a lot of DIY at home and I recommend to make small batches that last maximum of half a year just to be on the safe side, that’s what I do 😊

Thank you so much! Don't forget to check out my blog (humblebeeandme.com)-I've been blogging for over 8.5 years while I’ve only been on UA-cam for about 4, so there is TONS more content on the blog!
I was wondering if you could answer a question about this recipe. I have been reading and researching for a while now on the most basic of lotion recipes and want to make this with the substitution of water for breastmilk for my baby. Is there any you would have any information on whether or not this would even work or if that would effect the perentage of any other ingredient? BM is around 90% water, but the fat content of around 4% worries me. Also, I know you cannot preserve breastmilk to make it shelf stable and this would not last very long. All BM lotion recipes I can find are with beeswax and no emulsifier nor preservative. TIA!
Hi! I don't really know. I think it could work, but it could curdle-it's impossible to say without trying it. And yes, the shelf stability of it is unlikely to be great, you'd want to use it in a day or two.
I made two lotions so far (and a lot of body wash!) and I have a question about cool down. My lotions thickened up much faster than yours. Same exact recipe, same technique, only they were very think after 60 seconds of immersion blending. Cool enough for my cool-down ingredients 2-3 minutes later. Now, it was autumn/winter, and my kitchen was only heated to 60-65°F (15-18C ... I'm part polar bear, and my kitchen is the coldest part of my house). Could the air temperature have affected things that much? I should try making more lotion this summer, but I don't use lotion in the summer. Too hot!
Yeah, I bunged up the scheduling of this, so the video came out 24 hours earlier than the blog instead of at the same time. I pushed it live manually a few hours later, so it's up!
I've done a video on how to scale, but I don't make large batches-ever, really. "Large" to me is maybe 500g. Just look at how many videos I share-if I did large batches of everything I would drown in product lol.
Hello, I made this lotion but Im not sure if I can use it for my face, I tried once or two and nothing happend but I want to ask if its fine to use it as a face cream. Thank you
Look at the manufacture's recommended usage. It suggests .6-1% so since add that into the formula and subtract from the water amount so your percentage comes out to 100%. If that does not make sense, tune into her live session and she will help you clarify. She is so good at explaining EVERYTHING!
@@HumblebeeAndMe actually i don’t find safe preservative here our country. That's why i want to use sodium benzoate. Would you like to recommend me any kind of preservetive? Thanks for reply 💖
Hi Marie - been following you for over a year now and I love your videos so much! I've learned so much and made so many beautiful and creative formulations...but I'd like to get more confident in developing my own creations from scratch. When considering the percentage of an emulsifier to use; what numbers are variables in the equation? For example, does a larger oil phase require a higher percentage of emulsifier? Or perhaps lower? I always get tripped up on this... Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge and experience with us. Your channel is absolutely delightful and so well-done. Love the editing and creativity, and format. Also, side note - I think my 15-year-old might have a bit of a crush on you. ;)

@@HumblebeeAndMe Marie, after I posted this, I came across one of your lives where you touched on it. I meant to go back and delete my comment as not to waste your time (I really appreciate it). I'm thrilled to inspire an organizational FAQ post today! Thank you so much for taking the time. You have such a great online presence and are so organized with your blog posts. Humblebee & Me is my go-to resource when formulating. Thank you again!
bought an emulsifying wax called dub base expert and suspect it might be solube in water instead of oil, if that is the case what could be teh solution. The mixture as is came out really foamy :(
I'm afraid I don't have any experience with that emulsifier, so I can't offer much advice. From reading about it I'd think it should work. It is oil soluble. I would recommend searching out one of the emulsifying waxes I recommend and trying again-I can offer more help with those if required, and you can gain some confidence. You can always come back to the dub base once you have more experience :)

It can work, but you'll want to be sure the pH is fairly acidic (~5) to give it a boost. It's not as good of a preservative as what I've used when used alone, but I have had success with it. Learn more & compare at humblebeeandme.com/preservatives/ :) Happy making!
Hey! You'll find the answer to your question in my FAQ on my website at www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/can-i-use-a-different-preservative-than-the-one-youve-used/ 😊Happy making!
Hi please make a lotion without glycerin or any humectant. In winters there will be no moisture in the atmosphere & humectant containing lotion will make the skin more drier and worse
Hey! So, that's not how humectants work in formulations/skin care :) Please read more here: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/is-there-a-humectant-tipping-point-where-they-dry-out-the-skin/.
You'd need to use a different preservative as this one is not approved for persons under 3 years. Read this for more info: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/can-i-use-a-different-preservative-than-the-one-youve-used/. Happy making!

Hi Marie..can i use geoguard ect instead of germall plus..if yes, what shd be the quantity??
Look at the manufacture's recommended usage. It suggests .6-1% so since add that into the formula and subtract from the water amount so your percentage comes out to 100%. If that does not make sense, tune into her live session and she will help you clarify. She is so good at explaining EVERYTHING!
I address this in the live stream :)
thanks for the recipe! can i put kombucha in it?
I don't recommend it.
So, if you want the lotion to be thicker, do you add less water but more e-wax and butters?
Please check out my lotions Q&A video from September-there's heaps more info there!
@@HumblebeeAndMe Many thanks!
Can i use sodium benzoate as a presevative? If yes how much?
I don't recommend it.
@@HumblebeeAndMe actually i don’t find safe preservative here our country. That's why i want to use sodium benzoate. Would you like to recommend me any kind of preservetive? Thanks for reply 💖
Quick question , this should be fine for squeeze bottle too right?
Yup!
Also, side note - I think my 15-year-old might have a bit of a crush on you. ;)
Hi Kesse! I just put together an FAQ today to answer your question: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/where-can-i-learn-more-about-lotion-formulation/. If you review all the resources linked there I think you'll learn a lot!
Thanks for DIYing with me, and happy making :)
Does this help with dry skin ect and is good for the skins
Yes :)
Could you please make a video on adjusting pH levels in skin care products too. Thank you.
Very important question and not enough clear info coverage in the internet about it.
bought an emulsifying wax called dub base expert and suspect it might be solube in water instead of oil, if that is the case what could be teh solution.
✨Would love to know how to edit this recipe to make it a massage lotion. Great vid! 😊✨
I'll talk about this in the live stream ❤️
Hi, do you know where to get colloidal oatmeal and silk powder? I watched your oat dream cream recipe and those products don't seem to be available anywhere anymore. Thanks!
I also have a giant page of places to shop all over the world, which you can find here: www.humblebeeandme.com/resources/.

Hello beautiful Marie. I’ve have been making your hair conditioners but unfortunately, they’re leaving my hair frizzy…why? Thank you, and God Bless
That's really hard to answer without knowing more about your hair; I'd highly recommend this blog (science-yhairblog.blogspot.com/) to learn more about how different factors impact different hair types :) Happy making!
Thank you:))
Can you make lotion with SPF 30 pls😍

Great. How can we add aloevera gel into it
Add it to the water phase.
but at the same time, decrease the percentage of distilled water.
I addressed this in the live stream :)
Hi Marie, the blog post link isn’t working, it says page not found x
Yeah, I bunged up the scheduling of this, so the video came out 24 hours earlier than the blog instead of at the same time. I pushed it live manually a few hours later, so it's up!
Could we use phenoxyethanol
It can work, but you'll want to be sure the pH is fairly acidic (~5) to give it a boost. It's not as good of a preservative as what I've used when used alone, but I have had success with it. Learn more & compare at humblebeeandme.com/preservatives/ :) Happy making!
Can we use hydrosol instead of water?
Yes, but please read through the FAQ (www.humblebeeandme.com/faq/) on this for more info :)
Can i reduce the grams of water so i can add other oils?
Yes, but you also need to make other changes-please watch the live stream for more info!
how many ml is the preservative ?
You need to measure it by weight, not mL :)
Thanks alot .I enjoyed of your video s
Thanks for watching!
Liquid germall plus is impossible for me to find now. Any suggestions?

Can I use hard wax
No; read the blog post! :)
Can you use this for babies?
You'd need to use a different preservative as this one is not approved for persons under 3 years. Read this for more info: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/can-i-use-a-different-preservative-than-the-one-youve-used/. Happy making!
Ms Be can't we start
I realy like to contact you, because I'm interested joint with your training making lotions.
Amazing!
Thank you so much!
How do you add AHA to your lotion?
as far as I have read through Marie's blog/posts/YT, she does not recommend anything considering a recipe with Acids :) too much of responsibility, and I personally understand it!
