A little girl walked up to an Old British Veteran, who had served from Dunkirk, 1940 to Holland, 1945, she asked him if he had to fight in the war again, would he do it? The Old Veteran smiled and replied in a gentle voice; “For you? Always.”
You can’t make this stuff up, we truly were blessed to have such beautiful souls guide our world through such dark and uncertain times.

I wrote about that poem in 8th grade. The year was 2018, 100 years after the battles of the Great war, and I wrote an essay. It will always be the essay I am most proud of. It was on that poem (The Solider), In Flanders Fields, and Dulce et Decorum est. Lest we forget the horrors of that war.

@Empire Entertainment I disagree, I love this country and will give my life for it, however my loyalties don't and will never lie with a monarch. My loyalties are to this soil and it's people, thus making God save the Queen redundant. I vow to thee is much more fitting for our national anthem and have been thinking about campaigning to get it changed to so.

    (Flute)
I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
    Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;
The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
    That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
    (Vocal)
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
    Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
_We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;_
_Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;_
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
_And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace._

Beneath this stone rests the body
      Of a British warrior
      Unknown by name or rank
Brought from France to lie among
The most illustrious of the land
And buried here on Armistice Day
11 Nov: 1920, in the presence of
      His Majesty King George V
      His Ministers of State
      The Chiefs of his forces
And a vast concourse of the nation
      Thus are commemorated the many
      Multitudes who during the Great
War of 1914 - 1918 gave the most that
      Man can give life itself
      For God
      For King and country
For loved ones home and empire
For the sacred cause of justice and
      The freedom of the world
They buried him among the kings because he
Had done good toward God and toward
      His house

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
    "Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
    "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
    Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
    And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
    That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
    And sometimes, God, forgive me,
    I've wept unmanly tears.
    I know I don't deserve a place,
    Among the people here.
    They never wanted me around,
    Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
    It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
    As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.
    "Step forward now, you soldier,
    You've borne your burdens well.
    Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell”
    “The Final Inspection”

For some odd reason, this is what comes to my head. *Perspective on RAF fighters engaged with the German Luftwaffe, British comms* "Gentlemen, once more into the skies. Once more into the fields, once more do we find ourselves fighting for our right to exist as a nation. Alas, the war to end all wars has passed, but do not let that distract you from what it is at the door. Men in France have gone before us and none have come home the same way they left, and the lucky ones faded in the battlefield. But now is not the time to mourn these men, as those who did come home, come to deliver a simple message. Let the message beat into your hearts as I say, "They come in the skies, they come for our home, and they come for the beloved crown. Defend the homeland, please." Defend the land we must, and we shall. We will defend for God, King, and Country *Have this in the mindset of a briefing situation or an intense air battle that you would see in a movie* Sorry if it sounds cringy lol.

This is a British patriotic song. Lyrics to the parts that were sung:
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
    Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
    We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
    Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace.
The "country" refers to Heaven, the "King" refers to God. This song fits perfectly. As the soldiers fighting in the war died, they went the Heaven, hence the part about "soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase". Beautiful song.

I had a great great grandfather who served in the U.S. Army during world war 2. Based off what my grandma told me, he was the sole reason why her and the rest of my family was able to come to America from the Philippines. He was deployed to the beaches of Normandy. He was supposedly killed there as they found his dog tag around the beach, but his body was never identified. He was declared M.I.A. The only way I remember him now is a picture of him and his dog tag in a frame.
He was a fighting Filipino. They will always fight for freedom.

Even though you have sadly gone whilst fighting for your country, for your families and for the future of many generations to come, you will all never ever be forgotten for such efforts, and you will all always remain forever in our hearts ❤️❤️

_"In the streets and in the pubs, drunk off their minds, they would mock each other until they were blue in the face. But on the field of battle they were brothers in arms. Sons of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland resting in the mud as heroes"_
No one famous said this, it was the words of an unsung hero who you've never heard of. He was no one significant, he was just another man. Another lad who saw the glimmer and glory in fighting for his nation. I found the writing fading on an old crumbling tombstone in a graveyard in a rural England village while exploring the countryside. The simple yet poetic words of a heroic man from the heart of England. Rest in peace Will J. Owensmith (the name of the soldier on the tombstone). 1923 - 1944.

Men in the 1900's: Pick up a weapon and defend your wartorn country.
Men in wartorn coutries today: Pick up a passport and leave your women and children behind.

Picking up a weapon and "defending your wartorn country" caused two major global conflicts with over 100 million casualties between them.
If you are insinuating that people with no weapons, food or training fleeing weapons of mass destruction are somehow cowards then take a good look at yourself in the mirror and sit down.
The world is a different place than the 1900s. So are the people who live here.

@@mutantaura5989 Most Europeans during the 1900's where farmers, they didn't have weapons or training. They didn't always have food on the table.
if you insinuating that drone strikes and or bombs are ''weapons of mass destruction'' you're wrong and far as Nuclear bombs they have only been used in a war situation twice.
Back to the Europeans, they had no weapons or training to begin with. This was thrown upon them and they fought back against an aggressive building Empire called Germania.
In WW2 they fought against Nazis who had vastly supperior tactics, tanks, weapons and supplies. They stayed, they fought, they won and then they rebuild everything the Wehrmacht had blown up.
Today we are talking about huge group of radicals who blow up their own cities, kill and rape their countries to pieces. When it's all done and dusted. People will look to west for help while the men who where supposed to defend the part of the world they are so proud of sit and take finanical aid from european governments.
The Middle East is still fighting the War of Religion E.I Jihad or Shaheed. Last war of religion fought in Europe ended in late 18th century.
When people stop looking up hoping to see God and look at eachother. Only then they can know peace.
      Btw, I'm already sitting down.

I really like about this game that it finally showed the German perspective. That not all germans did bad things. The most were conscripted and fight for their family's. What the real nazi's did is one of the biggest crimes in humankind but people have to remember that the germans were victims too from those nazi Assholes. I hope we can live in peace my European brothers and sisters 🇪🇺

When he demobilized from China,my grandfather was initially unaware that he was a father. My great-grandfather was drafted shortly after he was born. The feelings of my great-grandfather who fought on the battlefield with his son left would have been very painful.

When I hear this song, I imagine my medic on the UK side, after a battle, sitting in a heap of used bandages with other used items strewn about the floor, and just humming this song sort of like a half dead zombie. Yeah it sounds cringy but if you put yourself in those shoes, you feel like you’re there, and it’s really eye opening to know that that’s how a lot of medical personal had to have felt after fighting for a person’s life.

I vow to thee my country
    All earthly things above
    Entire and whole and perfect
    The service of my love
The love that asks no question
The love that stands the test
That lays upon the altar, the dearest and the best
    The love that never falters
The love that pays the price
    The love that makes undaunted
    The final sacrifice
    And there's another country
    I've heard of long ago
Most dear to them that love her
Most great to them that know
We may not count her armies
We may not see her King
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering
And soul by soul and silently
    Her shining bounds increase
Her ways are ways of gentleness
And all her paths are peace.

As an American listening to this as British election results come in is something special. Conservatives are currently scoring their greatest win since Thatcher's time - Brexit will happen. History repeats itself. This game depicts a time when Britain stood alone against an evil that enveloped the European continent, won, and delivered Europe from evil. Tonight I see it happening again.
