the tsunami that hit Japan happened during 1.x series before ARR ( tsunami happened in 2011, king moogle ARR released in 2013 ). so this is not why we got king moogle first in ARR. a lot people who watched the noclip documentary get confused because they used clips from ARR with that water primal when talked about the tsunami but those events happened during the 1.x series. noclip only used the ARR clips as a reference for people to understand why the dev team didn't released it after the tsunami and because in 1.x series they never released the water primal so they could not use any clips from it.

I can never take the moogles seriously. That fight and it gear just added to that notion. The dragoon gets an extendable fork, dammit, how can you not crack up at that.
I remember doing a dungeon and I kept hearing moogles! Then I realized one of the other people had one of those moogles weapons and they go "kupo!" every time they're unsheathed.
Still, the Player knows... i hate this kind of gaslighting. CE in ShB will be fun... not. Vets might not have gotten it, but everyone that plays now through the whole story knows who it is.
he's already done the Coils of Bahamut and he doesnt really have time to do most of the extreme trials so there is no need to go back when he is already in patch 2.55
@@EvanTheNinjaog I suggest it because not only does it help with WT later, which helps a great deal with leveling up classes (a boon when he switches up) but he seems to enjoy a nice challenge and it adds a bit of lore that most likely will be forgotten but is enough to make the natural progression later seem reasonable

Deep lore time. The Moogle quests feel so out of place where they are because this was originally going to be when they introduced Leviathan. However, a giant snake dragon that causes tidal waves immediately after a massive tidal wave damaged nuclear reactors in Japan seemed to be a distasteful choice at the time. So we got something fun and light-hearted instead.
A tip for Caffeinated Dad: If you are missing footage for one of these recap videos, you can always go to an inn room and look at The Unending Journey, where you can replay any cutscenes you've seen so far.

The thing about Mor Dhona that you miss out on nowadays, it's been in the game since 1.0 where the entire " town" was a single tent, a campfire, and a fence. It was gradually built up with each subsequent patch into the thriving hub it is now and each expansion of the town was, in a subtle way, tied to how the stories progressed.
I know you’re ahead on the streams so I’m looking forward to seeing your progress and takes on the story. You pointed out it seems very samey (which is true) leading into HW but the seeds have been set you just don’t know it yet.

I imagine you've probably been told this already, but in their natural state, Ascians are incorporeal and can only be seen by someone with the Echo. in order for anyone else to see them, they generally need to possess a body- like Lahabrea did with Thancred.
@@CaffeinatedDad There was a certain NPC who had a "levequest" that gives a lot of gil, in exchange for Coffee Biscuits, so people started farming and crafting them to make gil. The devs noticed, meme'd about it, then patched it in 6.0, but it was fun while it lasted.
BTW, if you go watch a video if the FFXIV version 1.0 Ul'dah intro, you will get to see Minfilia as a pre-teen and also F'lhaminn, the songstress of Ul'dah who after this event takes Minfilia in.
UA-cam just started recommeding your videos and have been enjoying them so far. About the Moogle song, the song is based on the Moggle Theme from Finfal Fantasy V, released in 1992. Nightmare before Christmas was released at the end of 1993 so the music from this trial is original from the FF series.
Interesting story about this Trial. Leviathan was supposed to be the Primal Trail at this point in the story, however due to a Tsunami that hit Japan during development, Yoshi P. didn't feel that it would be right to release the next patch with a massive sea monster as the next boss so the development team shifted gears near instantly and came up with this Primal and the lead-up storyline and at hyperspeed, pulled this together and got the patch out, then released the Leviathan storyline and Trial later when the emotional scars from the devastating Tsunami had some time to heal. Pretty crazy right? That story just gives me mad respect for the team there at SE. If you haven't yet, you should watch the 3-part series on FFXIV. The 'No Clip' documentary "The Fall and Rise of Final Fantasy XIV". It sheds so much light on A Realm Reborn and the leadership of Yoshi-P.
Thornmarch is goofy and fun (YMMV), but it also serves an important narrative purpose. It challenges our understanding of what primals are--accepting that Good King Moggle Mog is a primal breaks the previous idea of primals as extant gods given form by their worshipers. (Coils also undermines this definition, but Coils is not mandatory, and even if you've done it, the circumstances are secret. Moggle Mog gives Urianger an opportunity to share this new understanding of primals without breaching that secrecy.) This is important narratively because it breaks us free from the tribal summoning rut we were falling into at the end of ARR, opening up new possible directions for primal stories as we move on into the expansions.
I hope some day you react to the FFXIV NoClip documentary. I'm sure you've been asked to watch this already. Just throwing another request onto that pile.
Awesome songs with lyrics are a staple in XIV, all throughout its fights. Moggle Mog will not be the last, not by far, to feature lyrics in battle. Not all Trials will have lyrics, but a good helping of them, do. Usually, they give fights that feature characters with extensive backstories the lyrics while some more basic "big monster" trials typically don't have lyrics (but are still awesome, anyhow). I can't say that there's a fight theme that I _don't_ like. And one thing that's going to start popping up, are voice lines in the middle of combat. Some trial fights are going to start getting vocal and a lot of them are awesome, where the boss will have voice-acted lines to call out attacks or to just say things in general while you fight them.
I still do not know how I feel about the moogle mog plot line. It is as filler as it get, most stuff in MSQ (and even some of the side stuff) end up having a pay off later down. Its super silly to a point some might call obnoxious. And yet. And yet. Its such an amazing troll. It commits to the bit so fully, the music is a banger and frankly that trial is fun. It used to even be a little challenging, old version was a bit of a difficulty spike. I think I love it. Yet. I hate that I love it.
I have mixed feelings on the current version of Thornmarch Hard. It's probably for the best that they made it more approachable, but the original was more like the Extreme version and you had to be a little more careful with which moogles you attacked. If someone spent too much time hitting the King before dealing with the little ones, he'd drop a meteor on you and kill you outright. The extreme version is even more strict because you have to defeat all the little moogles around the same time or risk not being able to defeat him before he drops the meteor.

@@Merusdraconis There are already coffee recipes in game. Which makes sense because coffee actually originated in Northern Africa and was introduced to the Americas via Europe. Eorzea is Africa geographically so it probably originated in Ala Mhigo.
