- Today I take on a style swap challenge from The Pickle Jar!
Pickle has challenged me to paint a super vibrant, saturated Salamander instead of my usual Grimdark....... and in return he is going to be trying to embrace the Grimdark!

This is actually such a dope paint job, especially since you were going outside your comfort zone. Also love that you painted the skin more of a black skin tone rather than the charcoal grey most people do. Just looks better than grey skin imo
Thankyou! Definitely agreed on the skin tones, a much darker tone also helps with the contrast on the model! 👍
Absolutely awesome video dude, I loved the end result. I've gotta' be honest, I laughed when you described Moot Green as a super bright green. That's what I use as my mid level highlight haha
Cheers for taking the time to indulge me with this, it's been a lot of fun!
Thanks buddy! It was a great idea for a challenge, really good fun!
I'm not sure I could bring myself to go any brighter than moot green though! haha
Just about to watch your video now....
Cracking scheme! Super clean and bright, well done 👍🏼
Thanks bud! 👍
Fantastic job the end result looks awesome. This was a great challenge and was really cool to see you both push yourselves in styles you are not comfortable with. That being said you both can pretty much pull off any painting style you wish. 😃👍🏼
Thanks buddy! Pickle deserves the credit for coming up with it, as soon as he suggested it I knew it would be a lot of fun though!
Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words!
Bright, saturated and edge highlight... It sure makes miniatures striking! But some Grime and pigments on top, for a mix of the two styles... That would make it doubly interesting! EavyGrim!
Oooh 'Eavygrim..... that may have to be something to try in the future!
I'd love to see the reactions of painting something up to 'Eavy Metal standard and then just slopping a load of streaking grime all over it! haha
This is one of those paint jobs with colours that instantly release a hit of dopamine, good stuff!
Thanks bud! Not gonna lie, it was massively out of my comfort zone but was a fun exercise!
@@SprayBlackStudios Stepping out of our comfort zones is the best thing we can do, I’ve been doing it a lot recently!
@@GhoblinCrafts I definitely agree with this! It's so easy to get stuck in the rut of what you know and what you can do..... Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is the best way of improving!
@@SprayBlackStudios UA-cam is definitely a big help too as it kind of forces us to try new things!
@@GhoblinCrafts Yeah it definitely does, and obviously provides us with all the information we need to try new things!
Thank you , Ritch ,
Mission accomplished .
Thanks for watching as always buddy!
@@SprayBlackStudios As always , My pleasure ,Thank you for the upload , it is appreciated .
Keep up the good work on our behalf .
Great to see some airbrushing going down :) .. Sure it wont be long for the 1K .. Cheerz Dude (Y)
Thanks buddy! Absolutely love my airbrush, complete game-changer!
Fingers crossed, thanks for watching!
Very nice dude! Love how you've clearly pushed urself to do a load of stuff that feels unnatural to u 😁 weathering / streaking grime tutorial incoming! 😂
Thanks buddy! Definitely very unnatural!
It was good fun though, I just need to slap a load of streaking grime on something now!
Great work mate. Really like your videos and just realised I hadn’t subscribed so I have now! 👍
Thanks bud, thankyou for watching and welcome on board!
I would be interested in seeing your Salamanders grim dark take.
Definitely on the cards, I've ordered a few bits and bobs to do a nice Salamander conversion at some point! 👍
Great video mate. You must of had sweats for not using the streaking grime lol great paint job too
Thanks buddy! It was definitely tough not adding some weathering to it....... I'm now gonna go and slap streaking grime all over something!
@@SprayBlackStudios haha spoken like a proper junkie
@@TheHobbyCorner It's an addiction.....
SprayBlack Studios "not very bright" confirmed :P
Haha that's probably accurate! 👍
